Met the mother of a current Bill this week
transplantbillsfan replied to Thurman#1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good stuff! The first couple weeks were a good time to be off the grid and sounds like you came back about the right time. I actually sat next to Siran Neal's brother week 2 watching the game. He's a Jags fan so he showed up late because that was the week the Jags played the Pats. Good guy. Said he'd be back and I saw him again on Sunday, but he was sitting in a different part of the bar. Minor thing, but Neal's name is pronounced SiRON, not SiRAN. -
Just ahead of Trubisky and CJ Beathard. Pretty funny. I think it's pretty clear the national pundits and experts are going to be really really stubborn about Allen. He had the best showing on Sunday out of Darnold/Mayfield/Rosen and has showed progress in each game he's played. The moment he has a bad game--which will happen-- he's going to be crucified. When he plays really well, like he did last Sunday where his stats were only relatively "mediocre" (and is a 69% completion with 3 TDs and 0 turnovers really mediocre???) was because we got out to a huge lead in the 1st half and completely let our foot off the gas pedal in the 2nd half. (Wasn't there something about Allen's 1st half being the best half by a rookie in years by some measure?) There will be a few national pundits who embrace Allen, but they're guys who have embraced him early, like Schrager and Adam Schein. Everyone else will firmly hold onto the fact that Allen will fall apart, and when it looks momentarily like he has, he'll be pounced on. And when he has a really good game, it'll probably be glossed over and they can easily do it because he just plays for Buffalo.

Bills' Fan Gets an Allen Hurdle Tattoo

Davis wasn't some easily forgotten rookie. He was one of our "big" FA acquisitions. A 9 year vet and recent 2 time pro bowler. He was supposed to be our answer at our #2 CB. I'm sure his attitude was one foot out all Summer and you're probably right that the Bills players aren't all that upset to see him go, but it's naive to think it's lost on them that a this is an occurrence that really rarely (or never...?) has happened in NFL history and it happened to them.

I'd like to see Daboll just give Allen the go-ahead for any 3rd or 4th and 1 or less to not even huddle and just get quickly up to the line and QB sneak for a 1st down the way Brady and the Pats do. With Allen's 240 lbs pushing behind Bodine he should be able to get 1 yard 100% of the time. But it has to be automatic without a huddle so the defense can prepare and scheme against it.

This is such an awesome awesome thread with all these breakdowns concentrated in one place. Thanks 26CB!!! I'm still thinking we make a lot of noise and win a lot of games this year, but damn I'm looking forward to the next couple years when we get all that CAP space and upgrade to weapons for Allen who can actually catch the ball

Yeah I would worry now about the $5K

Come on guys... do you really think he made this bet? I thought this was one of the dumbest bets ever before today happened. It just really has to be fake. Especially with the way he was talking about it. Isn't it amazing to anyone else how stupid Vegas was here? Call it hindsight, but anyone who watched the Bills in week 2 and paid attention to the halftime situation and then adjustments made would have known a 3 score line was preposterous in the following week against any team. -
Already a thread

It was embarrassing on a national stage. And not just on the sports stage. People I know who don't even follow football were asking me about Davis this week. I was being just a bit hyperbolic in the OP having a little fun, but I guarantee the players used that this week to some degree. So, again... thanks Vontae.

So did Benjamin and Clay

I think the Bills heard all the noise and all the jokes all week. Last week you could just see how pissed off leaders like Lorax and Micah Hyde were after Davis quit on the team. Good leaders use that as a teachable moment at the very least if not as a spark in a room full of kindling. Throw in the adjusting McDermott and Frasier seem to be doing sharing the playcalling and an offense that's moving the ball and scoring and taking advantage of great defensive play and that Davis retirement last week could be the gift that keeps on giving. Right now I'm thinking the Bills do something like what they did in the movie Major League... put a life-size cardboard cutout with detachable pieces of Vontae Davis in the locker room every week. For every W, pull off a piece. And then another. And another. Until we make the playoffs... And there's a life-size cardboard cutout of Davis in Buffalo's locker room as we enter the playoffs with just Buffalo Bills socks and a Banana Hammock left... also removable, of course
