  1. Absolutely. Not only was the CALL inept, but the cornerback biting on the double move? Yikes. Just legendary ineptitude.
  2. But just....why? Why would they do that? Gregg and Gase won't be there to take advantage of the high draft pick. What's the legitimate theory behind WHY they would do this? Guys like Williams and Gase have pride. Surely they don't want 0-16 on their resume. Besides, if losing is the goal, why stop the Raiders in the red zone on the previous drive? Why not let them score there?
  3. I just saw this on SportsCenter, during an interview about Monday night's game. Like the title says, Allen is one of just two QBs in the league with an 80 or better QBR against both man and zone coverage. The other QB? One Patrick Mahomes. Say what you want about QBR as a metric, but it sure seems like Josh is solving the puzzles defensive coordinators are throwing at him as the season goes along.
  4. This game feels like last year's Steelers game to me. That is: Both teams have good defenses, both teams have good coaching. The difference, then? Just like in last year's Steelers game, the Bills have the better quarterback. We have Josh Allen and they have Nick Mullens. Hopefully that difference is enough to enable the Bills to bring home the W.
  5. Your opinion makes it sound as if the performance of the offense and defense are static, rather than constantly changing and evolving as the season progresses. Our defense was indeed "not good" for the first six weeks or so. It's been much better since then. The following Tweet sums it up. From bottom 3 in defensive DVOA to top 7. "Just facts".
  6. The thing that I don't immediately see for Hodgins is opportunity. Diggs Brown Beasley Davis Roberts McKenzie Those six guys are locked in. The top five are indisputable. I doubt McKenzie's going anywhere, either, given his specific skillset, knowledge of each receiver spot, and emergency special teams utility. So with six receivers locked in, how does Hodgins get on the field? The soonest I see this changing is next season. If the Bills decide to cut John Brown and save some money (which I don't necessarily think they should do), then that would open up a spot for Hodgins to try to make the roster. Still, his best shot at doing so would likely be to carve out a meaningful special teams role for himself.
  7. Looks like the Steelers MAY HAVE lost star pass rusher Bud Dupree (8 sacks, 2 forced fumbles this season) to a serious injury. Obviously we won't know until at least tomorrow what the prognosis is, but it was non-contact and didn't look good, and he went immediately to the locker room.
  8. I agree with Back the Blue. Zero has literally ADMITTED that he came to TBD to stir up crap and to essentially troll the Bills for not drafting Mahomes. He says he then really liked the forum and decided to stick around. The only problem is that he only ever posts about Mahomes and the Chiefs, never about the Bills. I just don't see the point of his once monthly "hey guys, did you hear the Chiefs drafted Pat Mahomes" threads, other than to stick it to Bills fans, over and over and over again.
  9. I'll concede that the lack of a true threat at TE differentiates us from, say, the Chiefs, though the Hawks don't have one, either. As to the rest of the bolded... I don't know that the Chiefs or Seahawks have much better run games than we do. The Seahawks and Chiefs are ranked 12th and 14th at rush yards/game. Certainly better than the Bills, but also not elite. Furthermore, Josh is one of the top five rated passers in the NFL in passes traveling between 0-9 yards, so I also don't buy that short passing game success is the thing holding the Bills back from having more success in the deep passing game. Honestly, with regard to trying deep shots, I think it's a trust/willingness issue. Maybe Daboll or McDermott don't want Josh taking those risks, or maybe Josh is just trying to protect the ball. But there is no reason -- no reason at all -- that the Bills shouldn't attempt a few called deep shots per game. They have two receivers who are adept at winning at the catch point and "Mossing" defensive backs in Davis and Diggs. Diggs may be doubled much of the game, but he's also single covered at times. Davis, on the other hand, is surely not a player that is drawing routine double teams. Either Diggs or Davis on a fly route in single coverage against a 5'11" DB....I want the Bills to take those risks sometimes. Again, not foolishly, and not forcing it, but....sometimes you've just gotta take the shot.
  10. Agreed. I have very few critiques of Daboll, who I happen to think is an excellent play caller 90% of the time. My one "wish list item" that never seems to come true is called deep shots. For years, we've heard "we're taking what the defense gives us". And while obviously you don't want to force things deep, it seems the Bills are more willing to let defenses dictate to them than some other teams. Opposing defenses play the Chiefs and Seahawks similarly to how they play the Bills -- soft zones, doing everything they can to take away the deep ball -- and yet those teams still take those shots, and they still complete deep passes. I'd like to see the Bills not be SO scared of what a defense is doing that they're unwilling to even TRY to throw it deep. The rate at which ticky-tack defensive pass interference penalties are called these days is another great reason to dial up regular deep shots to Davis and Diggs.
  11. This coaching staff almost always seems to do the right thing with regard to player injuries and recovery. As such, when Milano returns, I expect them to ease him back in, with a snap count that gradually increases each week. Of course, Klein's great play over the past few weeks makes this a much more tenable idea. I'm thinking it'll be about 75-25 in favor of Klein at first, with Milano only playing obvious passing downs. If Milano proves to be healthy and playing well, that number will skew in his favor more and more. In all honesty, Klein has started to become a jack-of-all-trades, basically replacing Lorenzo Alexander. I would've never, ever guessed that Klein would/could do this, but he is! He's blitzing, playing the run well...even playing the pass well. He's been stuffing the stat sheet the past few weeks. His elevated play, Edmunds' elevated play, plus the return of Milano, has made what was recently our biggest defensive weakness into our biggest defensive strength.
  12. Gabriel Davis is becoming this guy. Look no further than his high-point catch against the Chargers on Sunday. Isaiah Hodgins has a chance to become this guy, too, but he's apparently redshirting this year.
  13. I'm thinking he'll be on the active roster until John Brown returns from IR, at which point one would have to think he gets cut and returns to practice squad. Unless, of course, they view as contributions on special teams as so vital that they don't want to risk subjecting him to waivers.
  14. As a person still on furlough from work due to COVID and with a wide open, rainy Wednesday afternoon ahead....I'm pretty excited for this game. Wednesday afternoon NFL football. Who'da thunk it?
  15. The graph illustrates that the Bills aren’t costing themselves by kicking when they should be going for it on 4th down instead. It does NOT illustrate that they are kicking when they should be going for it, which is what the thread title indicates. Basically, the graph measures how good the 4th down decision making for each team is. The Bills are great at it. That’s it. *edit: it’s admittedly a strangely worded and somewhat confusing Tweet.
  16. I’m not really sure what this story is doing on a Buffalo Bills message board. To be fair, it DOES follow Zero’s only known framework for posting here: “THE CHIEFS GOT PATRICK MAHOMES!!!!!!!”. Why do I keep clicking on threads by this strange troll?
  17. I’m not really sure what this thread is positing. Is the OP asking if our best starting three linebackers in a 4-3 set are Milano, Edmunds, and Klein? If so, the answer is yes. Those are and have always been our starting Will, Mike, and Sam LBs. If the question is which one comes out on 3rd down, well...Klein has made that a bit more of a discussion with his great play in recent weeks.
  18. I think a few who have responded are misunderstanding this graph. Basically, it means the Bills’ 4th down decision making — when to kick, when to go for it — is excellent. This absolutely IS an important statistic. It speaks to the evolution and adaptability of coach McDermott, who has often been criticized for game day decision making. This graph — like the Bills becoming one of the pass happiest teams in the league — shows that McDermott has improved in multiple areas, embraces analytics, and is one of the sharpest, most “modern” coaches in the NFL. *edit: to that end, the thread title is maybe slightly misleading?
