  1. Tanking has no track record of working in the NFL. There are huge differences between football and hockey , which could be one reason. If tanking were so effective the Browns should have a mantle full of Lombardis by now.
  2. He may not be afraid to give his opinion. His take on Kaep is just that, not the " truth". There may be facts in it ( money donation) but it's far from fact.
  3. Exactly my point. Being desperate and overdrafting a QB ( as is becoming more common) doesn't make a player any more likely to be good. EJ Manuel wasn't going to be a better QB if a team took him in the top 5.
  4. Is the player likely to be good because he's drafted in the top 5? Or is he drafted in the top 5 because those in the business think it likely that he's good?
  5. Ahhh thanks . I'm still not sure the Bills have passed on a QB in the first that has done much save for Flacco.
  6. Anything floating freely around out there now is garbage. It's smokescreen/ silly season
  7. I think Nix passed on Flacco. I don't know if there were other first round QBs that could be considered a " miss" by NIx.
  8. While an interesting oddity, that the Bills haven't used a top ten pick on a QB isnt significant in and of itself. How many top ten selections have they had ( since say 1980 as the game in the 1970's was different and Ferguson was a solid starter. ) How many QBs selected in the top ten have the Bills actually passed on ? In other words, was the player actually available to them with their original draft spot? I'd wager that no, the Bills haven't passed on drafting a top QB that was available when they selected in the top ten of the NFL draft. We know the Bills have lacked top end QB play pretty much since the Kelly era. There is no magic bullet strategy that they obliviously failed to employ. They have tried and failed trading for other teams QBs. They have used their own first round selection . They have drafted QBs in other rounds. The greatest failure at drafting QBs has probably been not drafting enough of them. They could have landed Flacco, Dalton, Wilson, Brees, maybe even Rodgers if not for a (eventually) failed move up in round one the year before. A decent enough list. Their overall issue hasn't been the lack of spending a top ten pick, but not taking enough QBs in the draft overall.
  9. This take has merit. Some will ridicule it by saying you are overrating the MVP award, or that the book on Foles is already written. Yet those same posters would say they want no part of a player such as Jackson or Rudolph because they are a wasted pick that won't pan out. So many absolutes for things that haven't happened yet. Who would have predicted Foles' performance in the playoffs / Super Bowl ? I don't even care about the MVP , we all saw Foles do things that a Bills QB hasn't done in a long time. The chance of Foles being traded at this point is probably lower than ever. Wentz's injury is a big part of that. If the Bills get shut out of a move up for one of the big four, it's a possibility worth exploring.
  10. This belief that the Bills have the draft " capital" to land one of the top 4 is wishful thinking. Their highest pick is currently # 12. If there are too many teams ahead of them that want one of those 4 QB's, then no they don't.
  11. So say a 3rd round pick is a starter in the NFL. He's in year 2 of his rookie contract. Is he " super wealthy"?
  12. In a game where the focal point is the QB, we can safely say yes. Yes it was.
  13. Interesting take. I don't know why fans would care about a the financial status of a players family, success or their background. They just want to win games. If Bills Gates had a son that can play QB at a high level, great sign him up. Teams, however might care. It depends on as you say " what makes him tick". They are closer to the situation than all of us and have their impressions. They might be concerned if a less mobile QB has had concussions. They may also be concerned that the player may be more likely to leave the game early than another player would. This phenomenon has emerged in recent years. In that regard, the concussions ( and the family background) would concern me, yes.
  14. Peyton Manning in Buffalo? The Mario Williams signing was thought to bring a certain credibility back to the Bills , but there was NO WAY Manning would ever have come to Buffalo. When he first was going to be a UFA, I was discussing it with buddies at work and said " He'll got to KC or DEN, it'll be the AFCW for sure" . He wasn't going to be in the NFC with his brother, first off. So it was AFC and those teams had strong rosters execept at QB. The division didn't have many good QB ps to stand in his way. The AFCE was out of the question because that would mean Brady twice a year just to secure a division title. The AFCW had no clear favorite and was the easiest path to the playoffs, where he'd take his chances on Brady in a playoff game.
  15. No, it's not wrong. But in April '04 Rodgers hadn't even played the 2004 season yet. A lot can change in the course of a College football season. During the 04 draft the talk was that 05 was going to be a down year for QBs
  16. Bills took a future first 2018 to move down last year. Passed on Watson and Mahomes , ended up with pick #22 from KC. A future first isn't the be all end all. The Jets could have thrown one in if they really wanted to. It's just not what the Colts were after. They wanted that high pick for the chance to move down again if teams get desperate for a QB at the top if this draft or a top player that fell due to QBs coming off the board. The Colts have holes all over their roster and those three 2's for such a small move back just wasn't getting turned down.
  17. I doubt it. The Jets could match whatever pick the Bills threw in there and it would be likely to be around or above the Bills spot next year. The Jets had the #6 pick vs the # 12 and that was the deal maker right there.
  18. Realistically, TD made that fateful move up because in '04 2005 was not projected as a good year for QBs , Rodgers wasn't highly regarded and Alex Smith went 1st overall .
  19. I agree with this. I'd just applaud them making the move. I hope it happens. If they do, there's a greater than 50% chance they'd choose a different QB than I would out of whoever remains on the board. I'm prepared to support it and hope for the best. I'm sure there are others that want a move up to 2 AND for the Bills to make the same choice that they would. That's setting oneself up for disappointment imo.
  20. Maybe, but we are talking about football people making these decisions for their teams . Not outsiders like us. I don't think Rosen's background being brought up is due to any kind if resentment of " successful people" or anything. But to disregard it completely might be unwise. To play in the NFL you need to have a certain level of disregard for your own physical well being. Rosen might have less of this in him than others. The NFL relies on young guys putting money and fame above getting their bodies/ brains bashed around for a decade or so. That's just the reality of it. Yep, I'd agree. Rosen seems pretty intelligent, but he's not very mobile. I wouldn't want Allen in the top 5 ( IF the Bills can maneuver into that range)
  21. They've been behind the 8 ball the whole time. They don't have a premium pick. Which " quality" QB did you want them to sign? Let's first realize that Cousins and even Keenum were not signing in Buffalo. Bradford? They had some interest, but would you do a one year $20 mil deal for him? He s rarely made it through an entire NFL season. So that leaves such stellar players as Mike Glennon, Osweiler, Matt Moore. I'd take a hard pass and at least go with a guy who hasn't proven that he sucks yet. The teams at the top were already asking a fortune to move up. It's not all that different now. That's a strange stance for a GM with zero leverage ( and a good supply of picks) to take, so I'm not sure why you'd make that assumption.
