Did Thursday's game vs Bucs influence our play vs. Pats?
oldmanfan replied to VW82's topic in The Stadium Wall
There is not one phase of the game that is working right now. Every coach and player needs to look in the mirror and ask what they can do. -
Disinterested? Confused? Lethargic? Deflated? Pick a word. But in the losses this year, and in the narrow win last week, can anyone really deny that Allen is not the same Allen we’re used to seeing? We have done nothing in the first half of those games, and Josh just comes to the sidelines and sits there. It’s great he had the 2 TDs in the 4th quarter yesterday and that he then got pumped up. But it’s a 60 minute game. Yes the defense stunk yesterday. Yes Dorsey is getting outcoached. But also yes, our star QB is not the guy we’ve come to know. All these need to get fixed.

In real life Josh Allen had an NFL average game yesterday.

It was a team loss, and Josh had a part in it. Start with the D. Albeit missing 4 Pro bowl guys with Oliver out, you simply cannot have Mac Jones look like an All Star. And the last drive was ridiculous. Where is the pride for God sakes? You can’t get a stop there? Now as to offense, Dorsey is not adjusting at all. Defenses know what is going on, and he’s not done much the last three games to challenge that. When you supposedly spend a lot of time during the week scripting plays, figuring out your best calls, and crap the bed like yesterday it is clear you need to wake the hell up. Which brings us to Josh. Where is his head right now? He has way too much talent to play the way he did the first half, then just go to the bench and stare into space. If he does not like the calls, then demand changes or audible. Go back to runs but slide and avoid contact. Do something. But as QB you have to lead, and I don’t see him doing that right now. Bad times at 1BD right now. -
I said to my wife he looked disinterested until the fourth quarter. Detached might be a better descriptor. Something is going on with him.
-
The most concerning thing for me. The announcers talked about how much time the team spent going over what plays to script early on, what plays they really liked and didn’t. And the offense still looked terrible early on. That is not good.

Shakir needs to be given some of Gabe’s snaps…prove me wrong

Can we have discussions without this nonsensical “prove me wrong” crap? -
Because I was born in 1955.

If you are the owner and you decide to get rid of one

If I had to pick? Dorsey. -
I know we’re missing 3 All Pro caliber guys, but that last series was absolutely inexcusable.
-
Knox leaving was avoidable. As much as we all love Ralph for making Buffalo a major league team he did not spend on coaches and that but him in the ass with Knox. It led to hiring a string of horrible guys that ended when appliances took over. I don’t think we’ll fall apart like the early-mid 80’s because Josh, even though I worry about him, is simply too good for that to happen.
-
I agree on the defense. That last drive was inexcusable.
-
I think Father Time has tapped Miller on the shoulder.
-
But if I recall Allen wanted Dorsey. Which makes it all the more maddening.
-
But it does matter. It is a 60 minute game and for 45 minutes of it he looked lost. If the players have given up on McD them a change is merited.
-
And cue the typical nonsense.
-
Good point. I think they have to move on from Morse this off-season. And I said to my wife at one point that they should bench Dawkins. Hope you’re right.
-
Where was that the 3.5 quarters prior though?

Go away and pat yourself on the back somewhere else.

Has nothing to do with your post.

In general I am more the optimistic type and don’t buy into the weekly nonsense doom and gloom that permeates the board. But after today I am starting to change my mind on a few things: 1. Dorsey isn’t effective in his role. I thought he was after the Fish game, but it is clear opposing defenses have figured some things out and he does not have answers. My daughter knows more about football than most, and she said after the game that the league is dominated by innovation on offense, and we’re not getting that. We have him, Shula, Brady all available and we can’t get anything going? 2. Josh is loved by all, but something is going on with him. And it is not just him not running as much. Whether it is football or non-football related I don’t know. But I said to my wife today that he almost seemed disinterested during the game. And I was shocked to think that. The QB is a de facto team leader, and especially when a captain. I pooh poohed those the last few weeks saying he should not just sit by himself on the bench, but today I was struck by his attitude. Wasn’t doing anything to get the team going. Sadly, if I was asked right now whether Josh reminds me more of Kelly or Fergy, personality wise it would be Fergy. And I’m not sure that personality in a QB can win a championship regardless if physical talent. He needs to look inside himself and figure out his issues. 3. I have said many times that McD will not get fired. But after today I have to begin wondering if he has taken this team as far as he can take them. It is utterly inexcusable for a defense to give up a TD that last series against Mac Jones. Even a FG would have been inexcusable. When you absolutely have to get a stop to win, and the first play in the drive you give up 30+ yards is absurd, even given the personnel losses. As HC and DC, you have to have ways to stop them, and you have to be able to motivate the team to step up. Neither happened. Larry Bird used to say you need to change coaches every 5 years because players have heard everything you can say by then. Is McD at that point? I’m not sure. i sat at the Rockpile as a 4 year old at opening day 1960. God knows I’ve seen a lot of bad days in 63 years. But today was sad to me because the team just seemed lifeless, clueless, and without any passion. Again, I am a glass half-full type but today’s game was just sad. Sad, sad, sad. I think it is the harbinger of a missed playoff year this year. This kind of loss can either gut a team or spur a team to wake up. I don’t see any evidence they want to wake up. Sometimes you have to take a step back to take two steps forward. This season seems like it will be the step back.

Pathetic. Sickening. Embarrassing. Pick your word. when you just have to get one stop and you let Mac Jones walk down the field, that is simply inexcusable.
-
Have to get a stop and the D throws up on itself

I am not usually this guy but the season is done. Josh is not Josh, Dorsey usn’t good enough, and we’ve lost too many guys of defense.
