I've done it several times in the past and have almost always been right. I hated Blaine Gabbert, Jake Locker, Paxton Lynch, Christian Hackenberg, Blake Bortles, the entire 2013 QB Class, Jimmy Clausen, etc. All those guys, like Allen, were mediocre college QBs who were over drafted because they looked like Franchise QBs. As I've said numerous times, I think Josh Allen is going to be a colossal bust.

4-11: Dane Brugler Talks NFL Draft on WGR

Fully agree. I don't see any difference between Rudolph and guys like Bryce Petty or Landry Jones. He's a very mediocre QB prospect with a low ceiling. -
Mason Rudolph to Have Pre-Draft Visit With the Bills

The talk of him going 12th overall is completely nuts. I don't see any NFL starter traits in this guy. He's a big, immobile QB with a mediocre arm who needs a clean pocket to operate out of. If pressured, his effectiveness falls off a cliff. All I see is a career backup. -

Rudolph is such a mediocre prospect. His ceiling seems so low. -
I think there's a 0% chance we take Mason Rudolph 12th overall.

Mayfield is going to be a really good QB. I hope he doesn't go to the Jets.

Jets likely to release Hackenberg and Petty

Am I the only one who sees plenty of similarities between Hackenberg and Allen? -
Please let us draft one of Josh Rosen or Baker Mayfield. Lamar Jackson would make a nice consolation prize. If we pick Allen, and trade up to get him, I'm going to need to live in a padded room for a couple weeks, lol.

Mason Rudolph to Have Pre-Draft Visit With the Bills

Pittsburgh is trying to win a Super Bowl. They're not drafting a 1st round QB to sit on the bench all year for a red shirt season (or two, or three). -
20 Year Debate: Carucci in 1998 - Head vs. Arm

Accuracy and the ability to read the field are the most important attributes for a QB. Without those things, the rest doesn't matter. -
I think the opposite happens. Very few big boards have more than 2 QBs in their top 30 players. The talk of taking 6 QBs, of which 4 of them aren't first round talents, in the first round, doesn't make any sense.

Mason Rudolph to Have Pre-Draft Visit With the Bills

No. His skill set is incredibly average when projecting to the NFL. He's a big, immobile QB with a mediocre arm who struggles mightily with pressure. His scouting reports project him as a decent backup or bad starter. -
Makes sense. They value accuracy above all else and he's the most accurate QB in the draft.

QBASE says Josh Allen likely to suck
jrober38 replied to stuvian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Measurables mean nothing in my eyes. Quarterbacks get paid to pass the ball. That's all that matters. As you said, are they accurate and can they read a defense? Without those skills, I don't care how big, tall and fast a guy is because he'll never be an elite NFL passer. -
Allen isn't Newton though. Newton was a transcendent college player who carried a mediocre Auburn team to a National Title. He just dominated and took over games by himself. He scored 51 TDs in 14 games for Auburn. Josh Allen is just an athletic guy who struggled in the Mountain West Conference. The comparison is absurd.

QBASE says Josh Allen likely to suck

It's amazing how much size matters in the NFL QB evaluations. Put Mayfield's skill set in Allen's body and he's the hands down #1 pick in the draft. Put Allen's skill set in Mayfield's body and he struggles to get drafted. It might not be great at predicting success, but it's pretty darn good at predicting who the busts will be. -
I want nothing to do with Josh Allen. I think he's going to be a complete bust. If Mayfield falls to 6th, I'm moving up to get him. If I can't do that, I'm taking Jackson at 12. I want the guys who are good football players, not the guys who look good throwing a football in shorts against no defense.

I think all the talk about Josh Allen going in the top 5 is just smoke. The guy's game tape is horrendous and he's years away from seeing an NFL field, if it ever happens. Until he's actually picked there, I think the real targets teams want at the top of the draft are the superior QBs who no one seems to be talking about right now. For whatever reason, the worst of the "top" QBs is the one getting all the attention, while the guys who actually performed well on a college football field and have skills that will allow them to contribute on an NFL field immediately are being completely overshadowed by the 6'5, 240 pound "stud" whose key downfall is his horrendous accuracy. If we do draft Allen and trade the farm to get him, I'm going to need to find a new sport to watch for the next 2-3 years.

QBASE says Josh Allen likely to suck
jrober38 replied to stuvian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is the same though. Both guys have prototypical size for the position. Allen being two inches taller means nothing. Derek Carr is 6'2, 215 pounds. It makes no sense to pretend comparing him to Big Ben who is 6'5 and probably 250. Kyle Boller was 6'3, 235 pounds with 4.65 speed and a bazooka for an arm. Allen is 6'5, 237 pounds with 4.8 speed. He was just as impressive a physical specimen as Allen, and he climbed boards dramatically through the pre draft process, winding up as a mid 1st round pick. He was a freak athlete with speed, agility, a big body and a huge arm, and none of it mattered in the NFL. Given his height, you can argue he was better built than Allen given their nearly identical weight. Boller never overcame his accuracy problems and was a colossal NFL bust. I'll never understand it. If Josh Allen was 6'1, 215 pounds like Baker Mayfield, he'd be nothing more than a late round pick. Do those 4 inches really make any difference in the NFL? I don't think they do. -

When do guys like this ever learn patience? What you're saying Allen needs to do to be successful never seem to happen with similar QB prospects in the NFL. -

Good god. Who the hell cares about 2 inches. He was the same weight and a lot more mobile. His problem was accuracy and knowing where to go with the football. His rocket arm and prototypical size amounted for nothing.
