  2. They asked us to stay for tea and have some fun
  3. Jimi's playin' in the back room Led Zeppelin on stage There's a mirror ball twirlin' And a note from Page Like a water-washed diamond In a river of sin Goin' down like a whirlpool When you get sucked in Downtown Let's go downtown Downtown tonight
  4. Old Richard Betts will tell ya Lord, he was born a Ramblin' Man, Well, he can ramble on back to Georgia and I won't give a damn
  5. Answering your own question. Sweet. I've been following the conversation and am interested in both sides of the argument. Just trying to understand why you interjected what looked like a supercilious comment. Thanks for confirming.
  6. I'm curious - did your take come from a straight up nobody as well? Just trying to understand how/if the bolded bolsters your point of view or has any relevance to the topic being discussed.
  7. I love that one and probably use it way too much. This may seem odd but I think that phrase has as much merit as: When you fail to plan you plan to fail.
  8. So take your hat off boy When you're talking to me And be there when I feed the tree
  9. The like was for the mention of the Cup years - only time in my life that a team I root for had a sustained run of dominance. How you turned my contention that the NHL has not bestowed most favored nation status upon the Islanders into a claim of victimhood on my part is silly. Isles benefitted from a highly questionable review call last night. Has that been the pattern since the Cup years 40 years ago? Anyway, I'll bow out on this part of the discussion as well since I'm sure nobody else cares. Good luck to the Sabres the rest of the way - except on March 25!
  10. If you think the New York Islanders have been the darling of the NHL for 40 years you are 100% out of touch. My Islanders have been a joke of a franchise for many years - google John Spano Islanders for proof. Amazingly embarrassing story in the midst of decades of decades of sucktitude since the 80's cup run. I could go on and on but suffice to say much like the Bills we are lucky the team didn't move.
  11. Are you going with kick, deliberate redirect or both? From what I understand of the rules, kick or kicking motion is off the table since it was not off his foot/skate. Am I wrong about that? If not, why the silly soccer clip? If it's a matter of whether it was a deliberate redirect - that's subjective. I can see either point of view - not sure how you see that in real time replay and determine definitively that his intent wasn't to stop the puck, settle and roof one. But I've already said that my preference here would have been to keep the call on ice (No goal, right?). so I'll check out now unless someone has a different angle to discuss or if I got something grossly wrong.
  12. Agreed - some folks were referring to the kicking motion - pretty sure that's a different rule, no? The rule you referenced calls out a deliberate attempt. As an Islander fan I could argue he was trying to stop/settle the puck and score. As a Sabre fan you're unlikely to ever see it that way. Refs called it no goal in real time - it should've stayed that way. IMO replay sucks more than it doesn't. Crappy way to win/lose a game.
  13. Well he didn't actually kick it did he? Hit off his knee so kicking motion doesn't apply? @BillsFan4 pointed out rule about deliberately redirecting - which looks more appropriate. As an Islander fan I could argue (and replay officlals agreed) that he didn't deliberately re-direct - but if the call on ice was no goal, it should have stood as no goal. Crappy way to win/lose a game. Instant replay reviews suck.
  14. @Gugny Didn't get a chance to respond - in part because I couldn't refute @Another Fan's point off the top of my head - at face value it felt wrong. It still does, but I'm having a hard time refuting it. I remember Aguilera being a decent hitter and at best a slightly above average starter as a Met. I'm also biased because I never watched much AL baseball. As a starter he never hit the highs that Gooden hit. Looking solely at saves Aguilera had a great run from 1990-1998. Then take a look at Randy Myers from 1988-1998. Looks like we missed out on some good relievers. I never fretted about Aguilera but Myers success with the Nasty Boys (him, Rob Dibble and Norm Charlton) always bothered me. We gave him up for John Franco. I had forgotten that - but probably another reason I never warmed up to Franco.
  15. MFer!!! Was looking forward to watching this game all day but it's one of the few games during the season that I don't get. Good luck to your Sabres - not really cuz my Isles could really use a W tonight - but good luck all the same.
  16. Lyric thread caused a synapse to fire for a song I hadn't thought of or heard for many years:
  17. And where do we go from here? Which is a way that's clear? Still looking for that blue-jean baby-queen Prettiest girl I've ever seen See her shake on the movie screen Jimmy Dean (James Dean)
  18. Yup - and Sabres aren't the only team with a bunch of games in hand on my Isles. And while I don't expect the Isles to hold on I'll hold out hope. Might sound silly with so many games still left but feels like a must-win game for my team.
  19. Don't worry, sweet baby! Don't you ever worry about a thing Put them worries on the shelf and learn to love yourself Don't be your own worst enemy Hang loose, hang loose Let the ocean worry about being blue Hang loose, hang loose Go with the tide and I'ma take care of you
  20. Tomorrow You're gonna have to live with the things you say Tomorrow You'll have to cross bridges that you burned today Tomorrow And everything you do, it's coming back to you You'll never outrun what waits for you tomorrow
  21. Love comes to you and you follow Lose one, on to the heart of the sunrise Sharp distance How can the wind with its arms all around me? Lost on a wave and then after Dream on, on to the heart of the sunrise
  22. Speak to me of summer Long winters longer than time can remember The setting up of other roads To travel on in old accustomed ways I still remember the talks by the water The proud sons and daughter That knew the knowledge of the land Spoke to me in sweet accustomed ways
  23. In response to Max Scherzer trying to exploit the pitch clock MLB issues a clarification: “A quick pitch may be assessed when a pitch is delivered with 8 seconds or less remaining on the Pitch Timer, if, in the umpire’s judgment, the batter, although alert to the pitcher, has not had sufficient time to become reasonably set in the batter’s box,” the rule states. https://nypost.com/2023/03/04/mlb-cracks-down-on-max-scherzers-attempt-to-exploit-pitch-clock/ I think we need to fully define what 'reasonably set' means - maybe put a time limit on it so we're all clear.
  24. Poison ivy ya come creepin up right behind me You make me itch baby you're so unkind
  25. Islander fan checking in with fellow Bills fans to get Buffalo perspective on the upcoming Sabres/Isles game. Isles are in the midst of a big 4 game stretch (beat the Red Wings today) against wild card contenders. We're in playoff position right now but it's a mirage because most of the teams behind us have enough games in hand to easily surpass. I could complain about injuries but we've been winning since our best player went down. Goalie is having a great season, but overall the team looks like they're on the downside of a nice run that left them just short of the finals two straight years. I don't see Isles as Cup contenders but I'm hoping for another shot at the playoffs. Read a few recent comments in this thread - sounds like Sabres brought in some toughness. That's a good thing IMO. Playoff hockey is not the same as regular season. Interested in any thoughts about the Sabres and the upcoming game.
