Hello, says my shaky voice, well, how are you doing I start to stutter Ah, can't you tell I'm doing fine It was my baby talking, she's way down across the border She says, I'm going to hurry to you, I've been a fool And I'm tired of crying Yeah, a long, long, long, hot summer night As far as my eyes could see (as far, as far as I could see) But I can feel the heat coming on as my baby's getting closer

McCarver was a solid player for many years. Played in an era that catchers didn't hit much (except for Bench), but he was a pretty good hitter all the same. I don't remember him being great (or bad for that matter) at throwing out runners but I'm pretty sure he was well respected as a catcher. Had a strong connection/history with HOFer Steve Carlton. As an announcer I think he made his name with the Mets. First guy I can remember that was hyper analytical and not afraid to be critical. I learned a lot listening to him. He also p!ssed people off as a result. Had public disagreements with Mets manager Davey Johnson and more famously with Deion Sanders which culminated in an on air incident in a Braves post season locker room celebration. And yeah, Bo Derek thought he'd make a great leading man in a movie. A life well led. RIP.

RIP. I learned a lot about baseball listening to him as an announcer. Fun fact: Bo Derek once wanted Tim to play a role in a movie opposite her. (brief mention here)

A few years back Bozzio joined Dweezil Zappa's touring band for at least one recorded show and brought his huge drum kit. Bozzio was side by side with Joe Travers who had a minimal drum kit - when they traded drum solos I enjoyed Travers more. Which isn't to suggest that Travers is 'better' than Bozzio - just an observation that surprised me. I'll also take this opportunity to post (probably not for the first or even second time) my fave from the Zappa Plays Zappa tours. Absolutely love the guitar jam/solo that starts around 4 minutes in.

I think #2 would be the best next step. There are always going to be plays where two people view the same play differently. In the end we take time out from game play to do a Zapruder-like investigation that as often than not many think they got it wrong.. View the replay in real-time and if it's not obvious, let the call on the field stand and move on.

David Wright is the quintessential Hall of Very Good for me. I'm not a big fan of the argument that since player X got in, that that player Y should too. I feel like the Halls get dumbed down by this mentality every time they let (what I consider) a marginal candidate. With that said, I feel like Rolen and Wright were pretty similar in talent- except that Rolen was a much better third baseman. In the past week or so I read some of Deion Sanders comments that the NFL Hall should have an 'upper room' for the truly elite. Interesting thought but it wouldn't be necessary or worth considering if they raised the bar of entry. Back to baseball - looks like Cohen is on a kick to retire more and more Mets numbers. A nice sentiment, but I'm not a fan of that either. I prefer that it remain an exclusive honor.

Extended Warranties - Worthwhile, Worthless or Worth Considering?
SinceThe70s replied to SinceThe70s's topic in Off the Wall
Interesting that you used a dryer as an example. We had a repair on our dryer a few weeks ago and didn't have any issues using our extended warranty to cover it - which isn't to suggest that what you describe doesn't happen, just not to me - yet. My fave warranty story was our microwave. It was trouble from day 1 and we had it 'repaired' multiple times while it was under warranty and then it died shortly after whatever coverage we had expired. Problem was the model was discontinued so we couldn't just replace it and the mounting kit was flush with the backsplash tile and I couldn't find a model that I could hang on the same mounting kit. I ended up buying an extended warranty. By the terms of the warranty I couldn't make a claim until 3 months passed. So I waited 3 months, made the call and by a stroke of luck we finally got the unit fixed. -
Extended Warranties - Worthwhile, Worthless or Worth Considering?
SinceThe70s replied to SinceThe70s's topic in Off the Wall
20-30 years ago an uncle told me that extended warranties weren't worth the paper they were written on and for years I took that to heart. For the past decade or so I've had or heard of so many issues with new appliances that I get the extended warranty more often than not. -
-
For many years I was of the opinion that extended warranties were a sucker play. Now I feel like they're almost a necessity. Why? My parents had appliances that lasted for decades. The appliances I purchase often have issues within 5 years and sometimes issues recur in spite of repairs within warranty. As mentioned in another thread I recently purchased a used car for the first time ever and opted for a third party warranty so it goes beyond appliances Interested to hear how others approach the decision to pay for an extended warranty.

I remember Kevin's early career roaming the stands at Citi - you could tell he was a good one, usually had something interesting to say and had a very engaging delivery. One of those people you come across in life that when they start telling a story you want to hear what they have to say. Amazing that he's the lead for the SB this year.

@Gugny @ExWNYer @Another Fan Today I learned that the Mets are running a Super Bowl commercial in the local market https://risingapple.com/posts/ny-mets-super-bowl-commercial-watch

Couldn't just 'Awesome' this post as it would only speak to your awesome outcome and overlook the 'Sad' that it happened and 'Thanks' for sharing your story. Love the bonus time comment - enjoy every moment, we all should regardless of circumstance. WRT Jessica's post, it brought tears to my eyes and I wish the entire Pegula family all the best.

I stumbled across @May Day 10's post this morning. They're playing at a quirky venue near me June 24, I'll be there. Looks like Neal Francis is the opener, not familiar with him, would have preferred Belew EDIT: it'll be full-on quirky. Theater in the round with a rotatlng stage. Sometimes performances are half-round, no rotate, but not this one. Overall I'm not a fan of the rotating stage, it can have it's moments but mostly it's weird.

They played Animals a few years ago. I didn't see the show but the recording was stunning.

Can Burrow leap tall buildings defenders in a single bound? Has he punished defenders trying to tackle him? Can he make the off-platform throws as effortlessly and accurately as Josh? And none of my comments should be interpreted as a slight to Burrow. I would like to understand your cahones comment better. I'd put Josh far ahead of any other QB in the league in that department - albeit something Josh needs to dial back.
-
I disagree that we are only winning because of Josh. But I do think we are considered to be an elite team (at least outside of this board) in large part due to him. That's pretty much life in the NFL. I disagree that Burrow and Josh have the same abilities. Josh can do things that Burrow is physically incapable of. Burrow does things that either Josh can't or won't - not sure whether that's on Josh or the coaches - coaches have been the popular choice lately.
