  1. 100%. A number of years ago I got a midday call from my wife asking if I wanted tix to the game that night. Tix were from a business partner and 10 rows from the batters circle - best seats I've ever had for a Mets game. Next few hours were a mad scramble getting friends on board but we got to the seats shortly after the game started. Seats came with free food (hot dogs and chicken fingers - not filet mignon and lobster) and Syndegaard was on the mound, dominating and working quickly. Beautiful weather too. In the blink of an eye it was the 5th inning and I remember thinking the night was going way too fast. I will say that one rule change I was OK with - and of course they did away with - was the 7 inning doubleheader (as long as it wasn't separate admission). On the other hand, the ghost runner is an abomination.
  2. Checking on setlists of bands for a fest I might go to this summer I came across The Meters who were covered by a local kid I'd never heard of Taz Niederauer
  3. I hear ya, but I'm skeptical that folks younger than you and I will be drawn in just cuz the games are shorter. Off the top of my head I could take this convo in a number of directions. Keeping it to us old coots - I was looking at ticket prices today and the shortened game length made it less appealing for me to spend on the cost of a ticket and parking for a night out with friends/family. One of my great joys in life is shooting the sh!t with friends/family on a relaxed summer night at the ballpark. JMO, but reducing that time to 2 1/2 hours or less is a step in the wrong direction - but again I acknowledge that the 4 hour game due to crotch-grabbing was worth eliminating.
  4. They were on the number for all of 52 seconds tonight.
  5. A Friday night rant about the pitch clock. I still detest that a ball or strike can be called despite a pitch never being thrown, it's utter BS. But in fairness for the most part players have adapted. As a result, games are being played much faster - and I don't like it. I totally get that the constant crotch-grabbing and stepping out by batters and pitchers that resulted in 4 hour games needed to be addressed, a 4 hour game is way too long. But for my taste the 2 1/2 hour game (or less - tonights game was 2 hours 10 minutes) is too short.
  6. This one looked so scary that I didn't have the stones to watch it.
  7. Two points on a Thursday night after getting swept by the Tigers despite starting Scherzer and Verlander in two of the games: When I picked up my kid at HS I was still fixated on Verlander giving up 2 HR's to the first three batters he faced in his Mets debut. My kid said he was the new DeGrom, no run support - love that kid! This opener from a NY Post article sums up my mindset perfectly: It’s getting to that point of the baseball calendar where it is still early enough to remind yourself, and all of your panicky friends, that it is a long season, that there are still 130 games left, that one month is no time to start building basement shelters for protection from the falling sky. But it’s also deep enough to acknowledge some troubling realities.
  8. Welcome to the Mets Justin, you fit right in! 3 batters, 2 HRs!
  9. So apparently having a player score 4 goals in a game is the kiss of death in a Stanley Cup playoff game. First Pavelski and now Draisaitl. Go figure.
  10. What p!sses me off is that this start comes on the heels of a suspension. It's not like he's coming back from an injury. It's getting beyond tiring praying that our top pitchers can make it through the season. - we've been on that hamster wheel for what 3-4 years? Even worse to watch Max suck when he actually does take the mound.
  11. Scherzer is pitching like this is a playoff game.
  12. Ah, not sure why I had you pegged as a Devils fan, I'm an Isles fan too.
  13. I hate the Rangers as much as the next guy - actually probably a lot more than the next guy - but imo it's disingenuous to label an entire fan base off the actions of one d-head. Pretty sure there was an instance last year of a Ranger fan sucker punching an opposing fan at the Garden and every other Ranger fan in the vid coming to the victims aid and pointing out the d-head. BTW - congrats on advancing. Didn't see all of it but looked to me like each team dominated 3 games and the Devils came out on top in the contested game. Last night's game brought me much joy.
  14. You are correct sir. I must have misheard it.
  15. Happy to see the Mets prove us both wrong and manage the split. I didn't see a whole lot of the games today. Followed the box score on and off at work, listened to the radio on the drive home and then split between radio/tv for the last half of the second game. On the way home Howie was talking about how Alvarez was looking more and more comfortable at the plate and that at every level Alvarez struggled at first after getting called up. He looked like a genius when Alvarez got the big hit late in the game. I was listening again when Megill was trying to make it through 6. When it came down to facing Rosario with the bases loaded I was fine with Buck leaving him in - even though the obvious move was to pull him after the walk. Fun fact from the TV broadcast - this was the 25th straight double-header split for the Mets. Never would have guessed that.
  16. Pretty much agree with all of this - but I have a feeling we're about to be swept today. Might be PTSD from too many past debacles against the Braves.
  17. Rude boy! Carly in hand, he likes to party, likes to skank with the band. Rude girl! She's on the scene, she's hanging out by the record machine. Skinheads! They like to stomp they boots, they dig that rhythm cause that rhythm got roots. DJ! Play it one more time, I don't care if the lyrics don't rhyme. Some say that rudies have a whole while to wait, but that's just jack talk, I know they're here to stay!
