  1. Awesome, thanks for sharing. Hope you're having a great time in Greece. Did you visit the Parthenon? (shameless attempt to get you to requote Shaq)
  2. Over the years I've made it through a ton of layoffs at the companies I've worked for and there was only one occasion when I was vindictively happy about someone losing their job. That person was evil incarnate and had been the cause of many better people losing their jobs for their own gain. But I also saw other people that I thought were either ineffective or flat out @ssholes get laid off and even though I was glad they were gone I still had compassion when they were shown the door.
  3. With every hit that Pham gets the pitching prospect we'll get in a trade for him gets a little bit better.
  4. I've had an obsession with a Mets no-hitter that started when my grandfather told me about Jimmy Qualls breaking up Seaver's perfect game. Then in 1972 I remember watching Leron Lee break up Seaver's no-hitter in the 9th. From that point forward I was looking for a no-hitter from the first pitch of the game until it got broken up. Ironically when Johan got his 'no-hitter' I saw none of it because I was playing softball that night. My brother-in-law was actually at the game - and he was also at the game when the Mets got the combined no-hitter. I only saw the last few batters of that one, can't remember why. When I saw the headline this morning I was nauseated.
  5. @Gugny @ExWNYer @Another Fan I like Buck but... Tonight there was a HBP called where the Brewer may have swung but got the call. Buck was p!sssed with the call showed his displeasure - but didn't make a scene - until the next batter got a big hit and then Buck blew a gasket and got tossed. Buck should have blown the gasket and gotten tossed at the point of the call, not after the fact. ...I am willing to question whether what he brings to the table is enough
  6. Ain't got nobody Woohoo, sad and lonesome Need love Humala bebuhla zeebuhla boobuhla Humala bebuhla zeebuhla bop
  7. Partying in Bel-Air with Buffy and Biffy Some homeboy says "Hey guys, you want some sniffy"
  8. @ExWNYer @Gugny @Another Fan Cohen has scheduled a press conference prior to the game tomorrow (Wednesday). I don't expect him to say much more than he did a few weeks ago through Joel Sherman but he's giving the NY press a full day to prepare their onslaught.
  9. Congrats! And all the best to you and your wife! Home ownership comes with it's challenges - feels like everything has been breaking or aging-out for us lately. Frustrating as hell but in the end well worth it.
  10. It's kind of crazy how they played inspired/smart ball last year when things were going well - and now we're seeing poor play. I'm still in Buck's corner - but more willing to consider dissenting opinions. Pretty much where I'm at with McD too.
  11. I get that folks are pointing the finger at Buck but I'm not buying in - although I'll admit to listening to the argument. To me this season has been all about the pitching: - started with the shaky proposition of relylng on Scherzer and Verlander - losing Diaz was devastating and shortened the bullpen - Quintana hasn't thrown a pitch - straining the weakened bullpen - Carrasco, Peterson and Megill have all sucked - straining the weakened bullpen - Verlander started the season on IR and has been average - straining the weakened bullpen - Scherzer has been average and willingly missed time due to the sticky stuff - straining the weakened bullpen I tend to be overly optimistic but this looks like a lost season. For position players: 😄 excited about Alvarez - he has crushed at the plate at every level 1B: no need to think about this position until we have a hard time signing Pete - but would like to see a higher batting average 2B: between McNeil and maybe Mauricio I think we are OK SS: great fielder, power bat but the batting average is way too low 3B: we're rolling with Baty - and maybe Vientos. Fingers crossed LF: Pham is trade bait, Canha is a 4th OFer. McNeil in LF with Mauricio is intriguing CF: Nimmo is fine but would be better off in LF RF: Marte has been a big disappointment since he got hurt last year. I'm not giving up on him yet but RF is a big red flag if he doesn't return to form DH: this has been a black hole. Not sure whether I put that on Buck or the GM.
  12. A few months ago I read about a system that some concert venues are using. I imagine it might be cost prohibitive for school systems but the concept makes sense to me. Everyone has to put their cell phone in a locking pouch that can't be opened until you leave the room/venue. https://www.overyondr.com/howitworks
  13. I can't fall in love with a wheat field I can't fall in love with a barn When everything smells like horse sh!t Down here on the farm
  14. Saw the Frog Brigade tonight. Holy crap, they absolutely crushed Animals!
  15. Thanks fore the info - hadn't hear that.
  16. I had the same thought. I get the older guys risking their lives - at least one of them was an adventurer who was presumably used to assuming a certain level of risk. I wonder if the kid was already on a similar path or if this was more of a one-off or first time adventure that his dad was able to bankroll and if so if they really understood the risk involved.
  17. And they're marching to Bastille Day La guillotine will claim her bloody prize Sing, o choirs of cacophony Well, the king must kneel to let his kingdom rise

  19. Perhaps this a play on the bar sign "Free Beer Tomorrow"
  20. Today was brew day. I had one small problem and one major problem. It's unlikely this batch will be very good. The first problem was a low flame on my outdoor cooker (below). Not sure if the propane line isn't clear or there's come other issue but I had to boil inside. The house reeks but wifey took it pretty well so I have that going for me. Wish is nice. Second problem: I didn't notice that my chiller had a small hole in the copper piping. Didn't notice it until too late and so while I was cooling the wort I was also filling the fermenting bucket with water. I had to scoop around 2 gallons of watered down wort out of the bucket. I'm going to proceed anyway, but at best this will probably end up being flavorless.
  21. Not sure what the powder actually is - the label doesn't list ingredients - but you mix it with water and then clean everything. With that said you're the second poster who mentioned Star San so I'll go that route if this batch doesn't work out.
  22. Apologies in advance if this is TMI/LAMP. Just after Fathers day I'm sharing my boys favorite Steely Dan songs. I think its cool as hell that they like some of Dad's music. They are both above average musicians (sax and trombone). AFAIK they pretty much listen to rap, but for whatever reason they've never been keen on sharing their music with me which is disappointing. I hope they aren't trying to shield me from the lyrical content. My younger one was taken aback when I explained what the Fez referred to in is fave:
  23. Much appreciated! For anyone that cares - we purchased a Honey Brown Ale kit at a local place and intend to brew tomorrow. I'm a bit circumspect about the following things, but wtf, sometimes you gotta stop dipping the toe into the pool and just jump right in: - the place I used to buy beer kits from had them refrigerated, this one didn't, that seemed sketchy - I'll be using sanitizing powder that's of legal age, could be a fatal flaw - the kit I bought specifically said not to re-hydrate the yeast, not sure why but that will save me a step I planned on skipping the first time back anyway - pretty sure my past siphoning technique was low-brow - put my hand around the siphoning tube instead of my mouth to avoid my nefarious bacteria. Unless I have a revelation between brewing and bottling day I'll probably do the same - wifey suggested I wear a rubber glove. Stay tuned...
  24. Dad I need to tell ya Sometimes it's hard to show you how I feel And dad I'm gonna tell ya I wish that all our differences weren't real Don't go away again I just wanna be your friend And if I don't say this now, I'm gonna be sorry Don't wanna make the same mistake again I see the older that i get I'm becoming you
