  1. Would have been a better chart if they broke the Status Column into two: 2020 Stats and Status.
  2. @Another Fan I grew up with Bob Murphy, Ralph Kiner and Lindsey Nelson on WOR/9. I'm pretty sure they'd do 3 innings each and then also do radio for the same game. They may have kept two in the TV booth and one on radio. Another fun fact is that back in the day for the WS they'd bring in a home team announcer to join the national crew for each teams home games. Lindsey Nelson got the nod in '73.
  3. He wants Texas back. Never mind, that was Valenzuela
  4. Completely agree that the season is playing out the way I hoped/expected but the road to where we are right now has been unexpected. It's hard to believe in a team that as been so inconsistent. I'm OK with Mendoza. He gets credit for keeping the clubhouse together the first two months when they were playing poorly and I like that he isn't afraid to experiment with different lineups (assuming that's his call). I've been critical of some of his moves with the starting pitching and bullpen, but I think that's a common complaint for any manager.
  5. @Another Fan @ExWNYer @Gugny Not much to add beyond what's already been said. It's been a feat or famine season for the most part. I figured they'd level out after their hot streak but instead they've had too many bad losses. I thought the Angels series was deflating. It'll be interesting to see how they fare in the next 10 games, I feel like they've played better against good teams this year, but I'm not really confident. I give credit to Stearns for some of the in-season moves. Nothing flashy but Torrens and Iglesias were positive additions, Winker was an improvement over Stewart, Vientos looks like a major league hitter and even though it hasn't worked out, he definitely tried to turn the bullpen over. Also, starting pitching has held up for the most part despite gettting nothing from Senga. Unfortunately among other problems, Pete hasn't been Pete, Squirrel has been disappointing until recently, Marte can't stay on the field and Alvarez hasn't distinguished himself at the plate.
  6. Altuve hits a ball through the manual scoreboard! https://www.facebook.com/reel/513909537862346
  7. Came across that fact too while checking my post. That was new to me. Epic. I also have a vague memory of him appearing on Hollywood Squares - maybe as a contestant - or maybe not a real contestant but before the real game started.
  8. My recollection is that he was one of many that made their way to fame in the 80's through MTV. Had a bunch of good songs - and off the top of my head can't think of any that I didn't care for. RIP
  9. You love humidity? I gotta think that's a small fan club, can't remember anyone ever saying this weather is pretty good just not humid enough for me. I suppose folks in the southwest or similar climes. Fun fact: a number of years ago I struck up a conversation with an elderly woman in Fairbanks Alasksa who claimed that sub-zero temps in AK were more tolerable to her than 20's in the Boston area - and she attributed it to humidity in the Northeast.
  10. I look forward to (and lament) the passing of each season. Whether it's the weather, the sports being played (football, hockey and baseball for me), what we're cooking or what we're doing, it changes with the seasons. I just try to make the most of each - for the next month or two I'll try to spend as much time as possible chilling outside knowing that it won't be until next spring before I'll do it again - at the same time, what's better than a fall/winter Sunday spent on the couch locked into the NFL with the smell of a winter meal (soup/stew/chili/sunday sauce etc..) in the air. Good times.
  11. You beat me to it. His son was an MLBer
  12. Sorry to hear the news, good luck with the job search. I work in IT but for a very small company. I've never heard of Incident Management - sounds like a pipe dream for us. What you described sounds like it has tentacles into areas like business/requirements analysis, project management, tech support, etc. (all areas where we struggle as a small org). Might be opportunities to bring your experience from a large org like Yahoo to a smaller org. Good luck.
  13. I grew up with an in ground and have had two above grounds over the past 20+ years. Pluses and minuses to both. Both of my in grounds were 24' round. Thats's a nice size for an above, a bigger oval would probably be better, but I wouldn't want to go much smaller then 24' unless the property isn't big enough. In grounds are great if you like to lounge around the pool, if you want it to blend into or enhance a landscaped backyard or if you want a slide or diving board. Above grounds are more utiltarian. Nobody I know ever looked at an above ground and thought it made the backyard look better. But one thing I like about above grounds is once the kids get tall enough it's better suited for play: volley ball net, basketball hoop,etc... Treading water in the deep end of an in ground gets old quick imo. On the other hand you could consider an in ground without a deep end, pretty sure that's an option. Another thing to consider is that above grounds are disposable. I was actually in an above ground at a party when the side blew out many years ago - epic. I remembered that when my first above ground showed signs of aging and I was able to easily take it down myself. On the other hand, my aging Mom hasn't used her in ground for years, but has to maintain it yearly - the cost to fill it in along with the collateral damage to the property makes it cheaper to keep the pool. I flew into Montreal recently and what struck me was how many yards had pools.
  14. LAMP time. I never listened to Steely Dan much growing up. I knew and liked the hits but I was listening to other stuff at the time. Cut to 10-15 years ago, a friend burned me (remember CD's?) the box set and I realized the error in my ways. My sons (18 and 21) ended up listening to more Steely Dan than me growing up and they both think their music is great - despite the fact that they both listen to rap more than anything else and I think are amused at most of 'my music'. Good times.
  15. As a Mutts fan I've noticed that the last couple of Padres wins came in the 9th or later. Padres are feeling it right now. On the other hand Braves look like pretenders lately. Plenty of time left to see which of these middling teams (Mutts included) end the rgular season on a high note and make the playoffs.
  16. Opeth without the Cookie Monster vocials covering an early Iron Maiden song:
  17. Opeth is the only band with the Cookie Monster vocals that I've ever listened to repeatedly. Ghosts of Perdition is an all time great song. Not buying into the I.N.C/Ramones comparison, but any Ramones reference is fine by me. I've probably posted this, but here's another great punkish cover of a classic: And since we're on the subject of punk bands and this site is Buffalo based....is anyone aware that the Goo Goo Dolls started off punk - even had a Ramones themed song - Don't Beat My @ss (With a Baseball Bat) - homage to Beat On The Brat. Regardless early Goo Goo is a far cry from Iris:
  18. My fave PT song and fave Umphreys mash-up.
  19. Love love love both UFO and Scorps. Although the Scorps World Wide Live album came off as an over-produced sell out to me (saw them twice on that tour and they were great). Anyway, to each their own, but I'm not on board with 70's Aerosmith being musical sheisters, what they became doesn't define what they were for me.
  20. Had high hopes for Billy Squier based on the first song I heard. Never lived up to the hopes but had some good songs.
  21. Any love for pre-80's Aerosmith? IMO, they were bad-@ss in the 70's and then tapered off in the early/mid 80's.
