What's your favorite movie about high school life?
SinceThe70s replied to BillsPride12's topic in Off the Wall
Hard to top Fast Times. I wouldn't call this my favorite but Can't Hardly Wait was pretty good. Watched it recently with my son who graduated on Friday. A great B movie was Rock 'n Roll High School. -
Well put. The only part I'll push back on is the Astros series being a litmus test. With the exception of the Phillies I think the Mets have held up well against the better teams. Winning the Astros series will be awesome, but if we lose it I won't sweat it. We're due to lose a series and if it comes at the hands of a talented team that's on a heater so be it. BTW, strong early season call on the need for a DH and J.D. Martinez. I was OK with the mix and match approach but J.D. has been a difference maker.

2024 New York Yankees..........on to the World Series for 41st time
SinceThe70s replied to BADOLBILZ's topic in Off the Wall
I don't follow the Yankees (Mets fan) but when I saw his slash line during the game last night I was amazed. -
By all accounts it will be a sellers market so if they decide to part ways with Alonso or Severino at the deadline they should bring back some nice pieces. The trade deadline is still over a month away and as we've seen in the past month a lot can change, but as it stands right now the only way I'd move either of those players is if it brought back a top top prospect.

MLB to integrate Negr0 League statistics into official MLB stats
SinceThe70s replied to Roundybout's topic in Off the Wall
If I understand what your are asking, I think that society was the bad guy and by proxy so was mlb. I do not think it was mlb's responsibility to cure the ill. In the context of this thread I'm semi-interested in the when and where but ultilmately that's meaningless to me as it's in the past. Bill and Ted put it best: Be excellent to each other. -

Looking back through your posts in this thread, there's nothing for you to clarify to me. Be well and prosper. -
MLB to integrate Negr0 League statistics into official MLB stats
SinceThe70s replied to Roundybout's topic in Off the Wall
I'm trying to understand your point of view. On one hand you claim that MLB barred 'them' and on the other hand MLB managed to skirt some laws that @ExiledInIllinois referenced. Would appreciate any clarity on your thoughts. -
MLB to integrate Negr0 League statistics into official MLB stats

That is just outstanding! What a great way to honor and shine a light on their legacies and accomplishments. For the record I have mixed feelings about intermingling the stats - simply because they didn't play in the same league. Should we consider Sadaharu Oh the MLB career leader in HR's? And before I get torched I get that it's not a 1:1 comparison given the history of segregation. In the end MLB is in a great place right now - attracting high end talent from across the globe. -
Thanks for the tip. We've always had chipmunks but never as many as this year.
-
An update. Haven't seen the young hawk since Sunday but now we have two medium size hawks spending time together in our backyard the past few days. Pretty sure neither is the mother I saw the other day. Hoping they cull the chipmunk population in my yard.

His steed of fury Eyes of fire and mane ablaze Demonic vultures stalking Drawn by the smell of war and pain He roams the star ways Searching for the carcasses of war But if it's hungry then its very presence Disrupts the calm into the storm Curse and damn you all You'll fall by the hand of the Sinner

After the Panthers went up 2-0 folks were counting the Oilers out. I said to my cuz that while it sure looked like they were toast it's hockey and the series could definitely tilt the other way. Happy to see them turn things around. I could not care less who wins the series but I would like to see it go 7.

For the most part Willie was before my time. But on a summer night in 1973 I saw him hit a 3-run HR against the Cardinals. At the time I was selfishly hoping it would be the last HR of his career, but he ended up hitting two more. RIP to a legend.

Yesterday there was a hawk perched on a tall tree a yard over. A young hawk kept flying up to it and then flying from branch to branch around what I assume was the mother. Then the young one would fly away (a couple of times around 20-30 feet over my head) only to return to the mother a few minutes later. This went on for awhile. Just a guess but maybe the mother was telling the youngun to catch it's own food.

Post your best Father/Son or Daughter sports moments
SinceThe70s replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall
My wife and I took my boys up to Buffalo in 2017 and saw the Bills beat the Broncos. It was the game where Von took an ill-advised/questionable penalty late in the game and also where I took the photo that became my 2BD avatar. The weekend was great, the game was great but what I remember most was the great folks from Buffalo that we came across all weekend and how the whole family embraced it. Since then we've been rewarded with the Josh years. Good times. -
Tremendous post. To cap off Fathers day I'll share a pic of my two boys from Friday night. Good times.

I reach into the twilight overhead The glowing horizon calling up ahead The water rushes in to carry me on I'm hoping to find my way to Avalon

It will be interesting to see what the trade deadline brings - especially after how it was handled last year. We're only a few games out of a playoff spot but we also have the 3rd worst record in the league.

@Gugny @Another Fan @ExWNYer Are any of you aware that the Mets haven't lost since the Grimace threw out the first pitch at a game earlier this week? I wasn't aware that the Grimace was still a thing let alone that he threw out a first pitch recently. I had the good fortune of attending the game Friday night making me 1-3 in person this year. Mostly a non-descript game, but me and the fam got to the stadium early and had prime viewing during the rain delay. Watching the crew pull the tarp off the field was fascinating. We also got the trumpets when Edwin came in for the save and ultimately he sealed the deal. Good times.
