Gameday Thread Bills vs Saints 2nd Half

I kid you not when I say we should draft OL with every pick rounds 1-3 every year until we find 5 good ones. THEN start putting skill players in place. -

I'd have way more interest watching Peterman learn, than Tyrod consistently show he cannot learn. -

Has anyone suggested to Tyrod that he lead the receiver? Clay should have caught it, but that's much easier to do when you can get reach forward, not back. -

In fairness, that hold was a joke. Behind the defender who makes the tackle. Not exactly sure what Thompson held him from. -

I'm sure Dennison has made his adjustments and the Bills O is ready to respond with an impressive 3 and out. -
Gameday Thread Bills vs Saints 1st Half

Worse than losing is not being entertaining. Nothing about what I see offers hope. I'd rather see turnovers trying to make plays than 3 yard checkdowns on 3rd & 15. Take what they give you is not a recipe for success. At some point this team needs to dictate terms of engagement and stop getting bullied around. -
Tyrod Taylor held to higher standard bc he's black ?
familykwi replied to Game Manager's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My concern here is Tyrod playing the race card because he feels over-criticized for his play as a QB will diminish the impact of issues regarding race that are more important. I'm Caucasian, so it's easy for me to say, but I seem to recall a fair amount of criticism being thrown at Brock Osweiler, Mike Glennon, and Nick Foles when they were underperforming starting quarterbacks. So much so, they all lost their starting jobs. They have all been criticized to the point that none of them gathers optimism if they are re-inserted as a starter. They are now "retreads." The fact is, quarterbacks are held to a higher standard because a team's success is linked to the play at that position more than any other. Criticism is going to come with that position. When Tyrod took over the starting job, I was happy because he was the best option. On this roster, I still feel that is true, but there are flaws to his game that have not shown enough improvement to feel confident in him as a long term solution. If Tyrod wants less criticism, then he needs to improve, period. I'm sure Tyrod came in feeling he would be the one to bring this team back into the playoffs. He has not. He should be willing to hold himself accountable, not look to deflect the issue by making this a racial issue. Just my two cents. -
What Would It Take For You To Quit The Bills?
familykwi replied to boyst's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm a transplant now living in San Diego having stayed after a tour in the Navy, but I'm still a fan of the Bills. I have the perspective of being in a city that has had their hearts ripped out by a buffoon of an owner that had no care of the fan base, only the dollars they could throw his way. Believe me, if the Bills were to leave Buffalo, it would hurt badly and would be unforgivable. Furthermore, if the NFL owners allowed that to happen, I'd be done with the NFL as well. I'm already disgusted with this ownership group who only make decisions based on maximum financial profit. Fan loyalty is not rewarded nor reciprocated. If fans demonstrate peacefully that they are dissatisfied with ownership by not paying for the product until the product is improved, owners do not apologize for their mismanagement and make changes to make the fan base happy. They cry to their other ownership brethren and say they need to chase dollars in another city that they can hold hostage for maximum profit. I'm OK with a business owner trying to make money. Businesses make money, but they do not put faces to their products and build personal relationships with their cities the way pro sports teams do. Those relationships become a part of the identity of the fans that support their teams. If the team chooses to turn their back on that relationship, then yes, I would have to let them go. Pegula was awarded the Bills on the premise that this team stay where it is. The fan support in Buffalo is still strong, so if they were to leave, then anything said before was a lie. It would be another billionaire owner being let into the club to help the others make more money for themselves. If it ever turns out that way I am out. -
Here is an interesting site: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/comebacks_career.htm They list QB's who've had at least three 4th quarter and/or come from behind wins in their career. Tyrod is no where to be found. In his 3rd year as a starter, maybe 2, or 1. Dak has 5, GENO SMITH has 3. Tyrod - no. Oops, now he's horribly overthrown Zay for a pick. I give him credit for the long ball, because he does complete a good number where other QB's don't even try, let alone succeed. He certainly throws a number away to avoid the pick, but he hits his fair share, so I give him that as a positive. Regardless of today's outcome, I stand by Tyrod being an improvement over what we had, and a placeholder for what I hope we can acquire next year.

First, I'm not a professional TT hater, I'd prefer to keep my amateur status for the Olympics... That said, TT does get paid to start on a professional football team, so I would expect him to do some of the things a starting QB does, but I still see little in his play to justify excitement in him. He runs well and throws a pretty nice long ball. GO TT! His short game is below average. He rarely throws the ball to a spot that allows receivers to stay in stride. He too often fails to connect with open receivers. The number of times he throws as he completes his drop is ridiculously infrequent. He regularly drops back. Waits for receivers to gain obvious separation, flicks it (not throws it, he rarely finishes the process balanced on his front foot) near the receiver and let's them chase it down. I will not miss him when he's gone. I recognize there are worse options, but he is not a QB that I enjoy watching. I'm glad the defense is vastly improved now that Rex & bro are gone. They are the difference from last year, not TT.

This is already out there, but I added a graphic and disregarded Gannon (as most people do): Since 2003 only 4 different quarterbacks have represented the AFC in the Superbowl and Flacco only broke the stranglehold of Brady, Manning and Ben once. https://twitter.com/ESPNNFL/status/821014145516634112/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw Although I don't see Tyrod cracking this list, I don't see any other viable options over the next couple of years either. Keep Tyrod, develop a winning culture with a chance to appear in the playoffs. Groom a young QB who furthers the new culture to take us beyond just appearing the playoffs.

Rob Ryan Interviewing with Washington for DC Job
familykwi replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought this was the only reply necessary until I saw the one with the pictures. Nice. No further replies are needed really. -
I don't understand your point. He's not African-American, so why the what-if question? What-if he was half human and half alien like Starlord? What-if he was a girl? What-if questions that can never be are just stupid. Bringing race into a discussion that has nothing to do with anything... also stupid.

Don't confuse a sound bite with overall character. As a coach that keeps getting gigs, I would imagine his players know he would run through a wall for them, and expects them to do likewise.

Spanos is moving to LA to prepare to sell the team at maximum value. Lord only knows what the new owner will want, so them moving again is not far fetched. At least that will get that loser out of the league.

Would we take Chip Kelly for OC?
familykwi replied to WhitewalkerInPhilly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Even if they act like men and co-exist peacefully, why force that situation on Shady? Bring in someone who at least has a chance of inspiring and creating harmony than invite friction. It would just add fuel to the dysfunctional fire. -
The best part of this thread is the notion of a new GM regardless of who that may be

How do the Bills get an elite QB?
familykwi replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
CLEARLY trading up to get a top QB is NOT the answer (JP, EJ). What the bills need to get better production from their QB is a brick wall of an O-line. Load up front and then get a reasonable decision maker to make a few throws and manage a game. If Alex Smith can go to the playoffs regularly, then there are non-elite options available that can get the job done, but not unless the QB can use play action to set and throw. The running game is fine, but we need a QB that can throw from the pocket on time. -
Marcell Dareus' thoughts on Rex Ryan's firing
familykwi replied to Wayne Arnold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Marcel says Rex's defense was too detailed. What he REALLY means is that these players are too stupid to run a defense that has worked for many a player in the past, but it was over the heads of the current roster. A good coach will create a scheme that will accent a player's strengths, not force a system down their throats. That said, successful teams have intelligent players, not just athletes. That's on Whaley. I was not impressed years ago when Pollian brought in Marv Levy, but was pleasantly surprised. I'm going to adopt the same attitude with this new hire, but I fully expect status quo until Pegula cleans house and brings in legitimate management. I'm sad to say I predict we'll hit 20 years before we see the playoffs. Sigh. -
Once Again I Have To Agree With Sully
familykwi replied to Rico's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Whaley is executing a power play, what reputable coach would come to replace Rex? Why go to an organization when the GM does not have your back? It feels a lot like the problem Mike McCoy has created for himself in San Diego. When they lose, McCoy blames the players for poor execution. Whaley blames the coaches for squandering a good roster (an assertion that by itself is damning). Stand up guys fall on the sword publicly and then settle problems in the locker room. Whaley has acquired his share of paper stallions who do not get it done on the field. He needs to be accountable and indicate they, HE has to do better. The Pegulas legacy remains to be seen, but they need to create a positive culture in that complex. They are two years in now and have been able to talk to enough people around the league to start asserting what they want in their organization. If this off-season yields business as usual there is little reason to get excited during their ownership either. -
Since you are offering more than "he stinks", I'll extend my reply. My problem w/Tyrod is that he typically appears to throw to receivers only when they have gotten open instead of throwing to a spot where they will get open. He seems to need a very wide window to make this choice. Rarely does he set in his drop and quickly deliver the ball. He routinely drops back. waits, waits, runs a bit and either takes off, or throws to a receiver who has finally gotten separation. Granted, he does not throw many INTs, but he does not seem to have the confidence to throw a ball before a receiver makes his cut and meets the throw at a spot. He reminds me of Maverick in Top Gun right after Goose dies. He's afraid to engage since it "doesn't look good." Based on your belief that he needs more time, you could say Maverick eventually got over his apprehension, but Tyrod is a 5th year pro, not a 2nd year QB. Not to mention that Maverick clearly had the skills he showed at the end of the movie, but temporarily lost his confidence. I've never seen Tyrod throw with the accuracy, nor the timing to believe he ever will. Tyrod is a starting QB in this league. I cannot think of many backups who can do better and he's better than a handful of other starting QBs in the league. The problem is that we need a playoff caliber QB and Tyrod is not one.
