Did we believe this year would be a bust before or after the Watkins trade? I did not start seeing so much negative expectation until that deal was made. If the candy boys (M&M) had taken time to evaluate and WORK with what we have then used the coming off season to fill holes I think they would not be facing the DIStrust of the process they are facing now.

Vic Carucci's Interesting Take On Why Tyrod Was Benched
familykwi replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is more than one factor in the Tyrod benching, and if this has not crossed the minds of M&M, it has crossed mine. I think the purge of Watkins and Darby at the beginning of the season is a result of them observing Tyrod and not liking what they saw. Because they had Shady and others who still want to win, they claimed they are not mailing it in, and our defense supported that point of view. Unfortunately, Dennison has exposed himself as a system coordinator, not a teacher of offense, so he and Tyrod do not fit together. Tyrod's benching makes it clear they will not depart from Dennison and they believe in his system. I'm sure M & M believe Peterman will better fit Dennison's offense, so I think watching Peterman will be fascinating. It may blow up, it may work OK. IF they stuck with Tyrod and this team found a way to make the playoffs, they may still have brought in another QB, but they would have been criticized then instead of now. M & M has decided to rip the bandaid off now and get ready to fix the problem now instead of later. Doing so now leads to questions regarding M & M knowing what they are doing, so they betting start showing improvement next year and be in the playoffs no later than two years from now. Good luck fellas. -
Our GM/Head Coach Combination
familykwi replied to The Now Moment's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My concern is the step in and blow it up philosophy of management. Often, when a person takes over as manager, they assess, get a feel for the culture, make decision about what to keep and what to change and decide the best way to bring their philosophy into the culture that exists. Now the NFL may have less patience in allowing management to build a program, but blowing it all up so soon may prolong the building process because you leave yourself little to no foundation to build upon. Making the playoffs this year will be a relief, but unless this turns into some magical finale of a season, I'm reserving my judgement on McBeane/McDermott until they've had a couple of drafts. If this team makes the playoffs, it will not be solely due to one McDermott draft with the Benjamin, Matthews and Gaines acquisitions. Most of this roster was assembled by Whaley, so success this year is still a product of his labor. If we do not show incremental improvement over the next 3 years, then this hire is not much different than the last 17 years. The barrage of news out of OBD is interesting and entertaining for sure. I'm not yet ready to blindly trust the process until it yields sustainable success though. -
Blame Dennison if You Want, But it's Not the System
familykwi replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Are there stats supporting the "Dennison system has been successful," comment? His last couple of stays as OC, his offenses were no better than bottom half of the league. Good coaches put their players in the best position to use THEIR strengths, not put square pegs in round holes. Coaches coach players, not systems on paper. -
Many of these players were already a part of the losing culture here. The trick will be insulating the new players with promise from those destined to be gone at season's end.

What's wrong with this team? And how can it be fixed?

Good drafts over the next 2-3 years along with smart spending. -
Los Angeles is an embarrassment
familykwi replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Back to point... The NFL is in LA for advertising dollars in the 2nd largest market. Selling seats helps the optics and the trendsetters in LA will absolutely want to say they were there for the opening of the new shiny stadium. I suspect even the Chargers will sell out early on. San Diego will not have the Chargers back so long as Spanos owns the team. The stadium is not long from demolition, there is no replacement and the city will not even try to work with the Spanos family. If he sells they may come back. If he keeps the team, he's stuck in LA because he could never afford another relocation fee. -
Truthfully, with the line play the way it is, I'm not sure starting Peterman is good for his health, nor his development. And for the record, any athlete would say they block out the boos, or in this case the cheers for his replacement. Standard cliche.

Marcel is not the reason we look bad in all 3 stages of the game. This culture has to change and Marcel has been selfish since he came here. I don't miss him at all. Talented, but not a guy I ever trusted. LOVE the Benjamin trade though. I'll take him over Watkins every day and twice every Sunday. I just hope he gets a QB that can make throws before he decides to leave. What I don't understand is why our offense comes out with an uncharacteristic timing throw to Benjamin, a nice run by Shady, a designed run by Taylor all to great success, then after two missed attempts to Benjamin in the end zone, devolves to the same old boring offense. Why not keep the pedal to the medal? Defensively, it looks like our secondary is standing in zones as receivers just run to the openings instead of shadowing receivers through the zones to give the DL a chance to put pressure on the QB. We're still the six seed. That's tenuous for sure, but we still control our own fate. I still think the LAC, Ind, and both Miami games are very winnable. Very losable the way we've played the last two weeks, but I'm now going to examine how this team adjusts to this adversity. Firing Beane is WAY too premature now.

Gameday Thread Bills vs Saints 2nd Half

I kid you not when I say we should draft OL with every pick rounds 1-3 every year until we find 5 good ones. THEN start putting skill players in place. -

I'd have way more interest watching Peterman learn, than Tyrod consistently show he cannot learn. -

Has anyone suggested to Tyrod that he lead the receiver? Clay should have caught it, but that's much easier to do when you can get reach forward, not back. -

In fairness, that hold was a joke. Behind the defender who makes the tackle. Not exactly sure what Thompson held him from. -

I'm sure Dennison has made his adjustments and the Bills O is ready to respond with an impressive 3 and out. -
Gameday Thread Bills vs Saints 1st Half

Worse than losing is not being entertaining. Nothing about what I see offers hope. I'd rather see turnovers trying to make plays than 3 yard checkdowns on 3rd & 15. Take what they give you is not a recipe for success. At some point this team needs to dictate terms of engagement and stop getting bullied around. -
Tyrod Taylor held to higher standard bc he's black ?
familykwi replied to Game Manager's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My concern here is Tyrod playing the race card because he feels over-criticized for his play as a QB will diminish the impact of issues regarding race that are more important. I'm Caucasian, so it's easy for me to say, but I seem to recall a fair amount of criticism being thrown at Brock Osweiler, Mike Glennon, and Nick Foles when they were underperforming starting quarterbacks. So much so, they all lost their starting jobs. They have all been criticized to the point that none of them gathers optimism if they are re-inserted as a starter. They are now "retreads." The fact is, quarterbacks are held to a higher standard because a team's success is linked to the play at that position more than any other. Criticism is going to come with that position. When Tyrod took over the starting job, I was happy because he was the best option. On this roster, I still feel that is true, but there are flaws to his game that have not shown enough improvement to feel confident in him as a long term solution. If Tyrod wants less criticism, then he needs to improve, period. I'm sure Tyrod came in feeling he would be the one to bring this team back into the playoffs. He has not. He should be willing to hold himself accountable, not look to deflect the issue by making this a racial issue. Just my two cents. -
What Would It Take For You To Quit The Bills?
familykwi replied to boyst's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm a transplant now living in San Diego having stayed after a tour in the Navy, but I'm still a fan of the Bills. I have the perspective of being in a city that has had their hearts ripped out by a buffoon of an owner that had no care of the fan base, only the dollars they could throw his way. Believe me, if the Bills were to leave Buffalo, it would hurt badly and would be unforgivable. Furthermore, if the NFL owners allowed that to happen, I'd be done with the NFL as well. I'm already disgusted with this ownership group who only make decisions based on maximum financial profit. Fan loyalty is not rewarded nor reciprocated. If fans demonstrate peacefully that they are dissatisfied with ownership by not paying for the product until the product is improved, owners do not apologize for their mismanagement and make changes to make the fan base happy. They cry to their other ownership brethren and say they need to chase dollars in another city that they can hold hostage for maximum profit. I'm OK with a business owner trying to make money. Businesses make money, but they do not put faces to their products and build personal relationships with their cities the way pro sports teams do. Those relationships become a part of the identity of the fans that support their teams. If the team chooses to turn their back on that relationship, then yes, I would have to let them go. Pegula was awarded the Bills on the premise that this team stay where it is. The fan support in Buffalo is still strong, so if they were to leave, then anything said before was a lie. It would be another billionaire owner being let into the club to help the others make more money for themselves. If it ever turns out that way I am out. -
Here is an interesting site: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/comebacks_career.htm They list QB's who've had at least three 4th quarter and/or come from behind wins in their career. Tyrod is no where to be found. In his 3rd year as a starter, maybe 2, or 1. Dak has 5, GENO SMITH has 3. Tyrod - no. Oops, now he's horribly overthrown Zay for a pick. I give him credit for the long ball, because he does complete a good number where other QB's don't even try, let alone succeed. He certainly throws a number away to avoid the pick, but he hits his fair share, so I give him that as a positive. Regardless of today's outcome, I stand by Tyrod being an improvement over what we had, and a placeholder for what I hope we can acquire next year.

First, I'm not a professional TT hater, I'd prefer to keep my amateur status for the Olympics... That said, TT does get paid to start on a professional football team, so I would expect him to do some of the things a starting QB does, but I still see little in his play to justify excitement in him. He runs well and throws a pretty nice long ball. GO TT! His short game is below average. He rarely throws the ball to a spot that allows receivers to stay in stride. He too often fails to connect with open receivers. The number of times he throws as he completes his drop is ridiculously infrequent. He regularly drops back. Waits for receivers to gain obvious separation, flicks it (not throws it, he rarely finishes the process balanced on his front foot) near the receiver and let's them chase it down. I will not miss him when he's gone. I recognize there are worse options, but he is not a QB that I enjoy watching. I'm glad the defense is vastly improved now that Rex & bro are gone. They are the difference from last year, not TT.

This is already out there, but I added a graphic and disregarded Gannon (as most people do): Since 2003 only 4 different quarterbacks have represented the AFC in the Superbowl and Flacco only broke the stranglehold of Brady, Manning and Ben once. https://twitter.com/ESPNNFL/status/821014145516634112/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw Although I don't see Tyrod cracking this list, I don't see any other viable options over the next couple of years either. Keep Tyrod, develop a winning culture with a chance to appear in the playoffs. Groom a young QB who furthers the new culture to take us beyond just appearing the playoffs.

Rob Ryan Interviewing with Washington for DC Job
familykwi replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought this was the only reply necessary until I saw the one with the pictures. Nice. No further replies are needed really. -
I don't understand your point. He's not African-American, so why the what-if question? What-if he was half human and half alien like Starlord? What-if he was a girl? What-if questions that can never be are just stupid. Bringing race into a discussion that has nothing to do with anything... also stupid.

Don't confuse a sound bite with overall character. As a coach that keeps getting gigs, I would imagine his players know he would run through a wall for them, and expects them to do likewise.
