  1. Spanos is moving to LA to prepare to sell the team at maximum value. Lord only knows what the new owner will want, so them moving again is not far fetched. At least that will get that loser out of the league.
  2. Even if they act like men and co-exist peacefully, why force that situation on Shady? Bring in someone who at least has a chance of inspiring and creating harmony than invite friction. It would just add fuel to the dysfunctional fire.
  3. The best part of this thread is the notion of a new GM regardless of who that may be
  4. CLEARLY trading up to get a top QB is NOT the answer (JP, EJ). What the bills need to get better production from their QB is a brick wall of an O-line. Load up front and then get a reasonable decision maker to make a few throws and manage a game. If Alex Smith can go to the playoffs regularly, then there are non-elite options available that can get the job done, but not unless the QB can use play action to set and throw. The running game is fine, but we need a QB that can throw from the pocket on time.
  5. Marcel says Rex's defense was too detailed. What he REALLY means is that these players are too stupid to run a defense that has worked for many a player in the past, but it was over the heads of the current roster. A good coach will create a scheme that will accent a player's strengths, not force a system down their throats. That said, successful teams have intelligent players, not just athletes. That's on Whaley. I was not impressed years ago when Pollian brought in Marv Levy, but was pleasantly surprised. I'm going to adopt the same attitude with this new hire, but I fully expect status quo until Pegula cleans house and brings in legitimate management. I'm sad to say I predict we'll hit 20 years before we see the playoffs. Sigh.
  6. If Whaley is executing a power play, what reputable coach would come to replace Rex? Why go to an organization when the GM does not have your back? It feels a lot like the problem Mike McCoy has created for himself in San Diego. When they lose, McCoy blames the players for poor execution. Whaley blames the coaches for squandering a good roster (an assertion that by itself is damning). Stand up guys fall on the sword publicly and then settle problems in the locker room. Whaley has acquired his share of paper stallions who do not get it done on the field. He needs to be accountable and indicate they, HE has to do better. The Pegulas legacy remains to be seen, but they need to create a positive culture in that complex. They are two years in now and have been able to talk to enough people around the league to start asserting what they want in their organization. If this off-season yields business as usual there is little reason to get excited during their ownership either.
  7. Since you are offering more than "he stinks", I'll extend my reply. My problem w/Tyrod is that he typically appears to throw to receivers only when they have gotten open instead of throwing to a spot where they will get open. He seems to need a very wide window to make this choice. Rarely does he set in his drop and quickly deliver the ball. He routinely drops back. waits, waits, runs a bit and either takes off, or throws to a receiver who has finally gotten separation. Granted, he does not throw many INTs, but he does not seem to have the confidence to throw a ball before a receiver makes his cut and meets the throw at a spot. He reminds me of Maverick in Top Gun right after Goose dies. He's afraid to engage since it "doesn't look good." Based on your belief that he needs more time, you could say Maverick eventually got over his apprehension, but Tyrod is a 5th year pro, not a 2nd year QB. Not to mention that Maverick clearly had the skills he showed at the end of the movie, but temporarily lost his confidence. I've never seen Tyrod throw with the accuracy, nor the timing to believe he ever will. Tyrod is a starting QB in this league. I cannot think of many backups who can do better and he's better than a handful of other starting QBs in the league. The problem is that we need a playoff caliber QB and Tyrod is not one.
  8. In fairness, tyrod is an upgrade from EJ, but nothing about this organization indicates legitimacy
  9. So can we please find a GM who can evaluate QBs?
  10. 2016 Buffalo Bills, just good enough to lose close against a good football team
  11. I'm not going to miss Gilmore. Worst "lock down" corner ever.
  12. Gilmore is the worst "shut down" corner ever Whoever has said that before is an idiot
  13. Provided that TALENT is sought, not just old boys who have already worked in his system. Hiring old Jets to help implement the system needs to stop. Find talented players and coach them. No one should be a fan of coaches who can only coach a system. Great coaches can get the best of the players they have by putting them in a position to succeed. Whaley hired Rex knowing what he is and what he needs. Both are culpable if forward progress is not made next season. The Patriots have evolved over the years both offensively and defensively. As much as I don't want to hear, nor talk about that team, the fact is they are the wall this franchise must get over to achieve their goals. We don't have to become them to succeed, but we have to succeed with what we have regardless of the pieces.
  14. Ultimately we lost 3 games to teams with losing records (Giants, Jaguars, Eagles) that cannot happen if you are a legit power team. This team may have talent, but it needs to have more than physical skills. Someone above suggested that the penalty situation was not likely to improve. If that is true, then this team lacks the mental talent to be anything more than it is now. Although it is easy to blame Rex for the lack of discipline this team shows, they are by their own admission, grown men and have to provide leadership from within to remedy this problem. Although I wanted the team to re-sign Hughes, I wish they had not now. Playing for stats and not playing smart if for losers. The types of penalties Hughes draws is a liability. He is a good starting point for what this team needs to become if they are going to become a winner. Taylor claimed he wanted to be known as a passer who can also run, but when I see him start to run, I rarely feel like he's extending a pass play as much as I feel he's done in the pocket and he's looking for running lanes. He needs to develop his short passing game and learn how to keep his eyes upfield more. EJ simply has to go. I don't see that anyone in this organization has confidence he can win anything at this level. I read that he works hard, but if that is so, he has so little to show for it. He's simply not an NFL QB. I really was hoping Pegula would show this team and the fans he will have little tolerance for failure. I'm not a fan of the Browns style of management (constant turnover), but Rex needed to back up all of his talk. He did not, now it feels like the message sent is that it is OK to try and fail. Expectations are irrelevant at this point. EVERY champion has to overcome obstacles and play under pressure. That should always be the goal, so no more excuses. Get it done, or get out.
