Bills bring in Trent Richardson
Nihilarian replied to Wayne Cubed's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/nfl/46347/352/what-went-wrong-richardson?pg=1 From what I'm reading the guy is just thinking to much about what he needs to do instead of letting his instincts take over. Two different teams wasted first round picks on this guy. I can only think the NFL scouts are still scratching their collective heads as to how a RB so good in college could be so bad in the pros. -
NFN, but a managers job is to be responsible for the "entire team", and he will be held accountable too should this thing really go sideways. Dropping highly paid pass rushing D linemen into pass coverage is idiotic in my opinion because that is what DB's, and sometimes LBers are earning their money for doing. It really wouldn't be that uncommon for a GM to have a talk with his coach on the schemes they are using if they aren't working. Not to mention that 17 penalties in one game should never be tolerated.

FILM REVIEW - OLINE/UNFORCED ERRORS-WEEK 4 GIANTS
Nihilarian replied to Bocephuz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yea, I didn't intend to infer that Taylor was the problem this last game, and quite the contrary IMO. When that run game works it opens up the middle, and keeps the defense honest. Taylor in only his fourth NFL start played as best as he could given the circumstances of the day. Still, only 38 yards in the entire first half with only 2 first downs is very disconcerting, and the Bills need to find a way to move the ball against good defenses. I gotta say that the NY Giants matched up very well against a run team with a running QB because they have faced RG3 with all his running, and the Dallas Cowboys with their stout O line, run game. Then 17 penalties on Buffalo players gave the NY Giants 7 first downs. Bad match up for Buffalo, but they could have won the game with some better play, and discipline. -

That was too funny, and got a real laugh from me. Clown car seems appropriate after this last game, and the games with dropping Jerry Hughes into pass coverage. No wonder the guy has anger issues... -

FILM REVIEW - OLINE/UNFORCED ERRORS-WEEK 4 GIANTS
Nihilarian replied to Bocephuz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Those grades must be on pass blocking because the line truly stunk on run blocking, and I think that is why Bill is so down on Wood. Glenn was the only guy that should be getting a positive grade in this last game, at least from my view. My problem with Tyrod Taylor in the first half the team only had 38 yards passing, and 42 yards rushing, neither are good. Then the throws he made on 3rd down were usually always three yards behind the 3rd down marker, and the receiver was tackled immediately. Taylor threw some bad balls, overthrows, under throws, behind the receivers. The real problem was with the run game, and the 24 rushes for only 55 yards that resulted in a 2.4 ypc avg. Karlos Williams 18 rushes for 40 yards doesn't help take the heat off the QB. Then Taylor needing to throw 42 times is not what this offense is supposed to do to win games. -
Well this is a GM that gets it, and it might have taken a two years, but now he gets it. Now he must realize it falls on him that he didn't build that offensive like like he initially wanted to with Bulaga, and Evans. I wonder if he is going to get that dropping Kyle Williams, Jerry Hughes into pass coverage is beyond stupid? The Bills have one of the highest paid pass rushing D lines in the league, and they have 3 sacks between them after four games. If I'm Doug Whaley I'd tell Rex Ryan to stop dropping those highly paid pass rushers into coverage or the next time he opens his mouth and his foot goes in, I'mma put my foot so far up your ass that there will be no room for the foot again. Doug needs to have a sit down with Terry on this Ryan hire. Hey man, Ryan took a chance on a dog killer. Whats the big deal about a wife beater Seriously, this team has given out lots of chances to druggies such, and unless the league has really blackballed this guy I'd say sign him

Amateur Hour With this Coaching Staff
Nihilarian replied to K-9's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree, and its not to early to recognize bad coaching, bad schemes with mistakes made by the coaching staff. In two games the team looked great, and in two games they looked unbelievably bad especially on defense (which is Ryan's forte) 17 penalties this last game, and those gave the Giants 7 first downs! The Bills offense had two first downs at the half. -
Greg Romans entire offense is predicated on being able to run the ball with power, and when that doesn't work even with three TE's in the game you know your in trouble. That means the entire offensive load is now on the shoulders of a QB that has only four NFL starts....not good! This type of thing should never happen, and its a good way to ruin a young QB. The Bills went into this season thinking that RT Henderson should develop into a better player, and with a rookie in Miller at LG they should be somewhat OK. The problem is Henderson doesn't look any better, and replacing Miller with Urbik who is an average pass blocker, and a downright bad run blocker. Then center Eric Wood has regressed for some reason, and Kouandjio still isn't a viable starting RT. Run blocking should be easier in my view because you are exerting your mass towards the other player, and you know where the play is going. Perhaps some of those Bills are big fat un athletic slugs that can't get out of their own way on run plays. TBH I don't know what the answer is on this, and Whaley might be forced to find warm bodies off the waiver wire like Nix did back in 2010. Also, isn't Aaron Kromer due back from his team suspension soon? At this point I'm not placing any blame on the QB for any reason because he seems to be the least of the problems.

The Truth About This Team
Nihilarian replied to Doug Flutie Band's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm starting to wonder if Rex Ryan is pulling a Marrone by not giving his DC any help this year. We know Ryan is a defensive genius, and I don't think I ever seen his D linemen dropping into pass coverage like Dennis Thurman has done this year. C'mon Jerry Hughes on Gronk, or Kyle Williams in pass coverage. Its no wonder why that highly paid front D line only has 3 sacks this year. -
You really have to start wondering how much input Rex has with his defense this year considering how bad they are playing at times. Its almost like he is Marrone this year as someone who knows how to build a decent offensive game plan but couldn't be bothered. Ryan is a defensive genius, and yet his DC looks so bad this year. I'll tell you this, he had better get his head out of his posterior because the Titans are currently 10th on offense, and they are coming off a bye week!
-
how about the 16 from last year when his team went 4-12, and with almost the same players is now 3-1. Save of course Fitz, who might just be a liability

Who's going to be the first coach fired this year?
Nihilarian replied to BmarvB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can tell you who might be next...Jim Cauldwell 0-4 Lions Talk about wasted talent. Stafford, Megatron, Golden Tate, AND the #3 defense in the NFL is now ranked 29th. -
My biggest beef is throwing on 3rd down to a receiver 3 yards behind the 3rd down marker only to see the receiver tackled as soon as he gets the ball, over, and over. Then 36 yards passing in an entire first half is beyond bad, and couple that with 42 yards rushing both parts of the offense stunk. The Giants D isn't that good. When Roman sets the offense with three tight ends the Giants just stacked the box with 5 on the line, and 8 in the box. Then the Bills coaches should understand that the Giants saw RG3 running a lot and have figured a way to counter running QB's. Kinda why those runs in the red zone didn't make it to the end zone, particularly the one on fourth down.

The Truth About This Team
Nihilarian replied to Doug Flutie Band's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For what as decoys? I don't see a whole lot of production from either player from the start of this season to make that much difference. McCoy 3 games, 43 rushes for 146 yards, 0 TD's- receiving 7 rec for 83 yards, 1 TD. Watkins 3 games, 7 rec for 99 yards 1 TD. That's thru three entire games! Pretty meager stats from my view. Some players have those stats after one game. Tyrod Taylor playing in only his fourth start looked very shaky in the first half against the Giants, and he had only 36 passing yards the entire first half. The team had only 2 first downs, 78 total yards from scrimmage at that the half, 42 rushing yards, and 36 passing. Taylor kept hitting receivers three yards behind the first down marker, and they went no further. Missed catches, dropped balls, overthrows. Growing pains!! 17 penalties on Buffalo giving the Giants 7 first downs. Not the good lord nor the gods of football were smiling on Buffalo Sunday. -
The Truth About This Team
Nihilarian replied to Doug Flutie Band's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This!! Rex Ryan said he has never had a defense with this much talent, and yet the defense isn't playing anywhere near as good as last year. This years Bills defense is Ranked 22nd, and that's down from 30th because Manning kinda stinks. Still the defense against the pass is still ranked 30th. No Bills player has as many as two lousy sacks yet? The team only has 7 sacks so far, and the big four only Mario-1, Marcell-1, Hughes-1, Charles-1, Graham-1, Bradham-1, Robey-1. It sure as hell doesn't help to have the highest paid pass rushing defensive line players in the league dropping into pass coverage. Which in my view is completely absurd!! They should be rushing the passer each and every down, no question. Current Bills DC Dennis Thurman is stinking things up, and I'd rather see Schwartz running the defense at this point. There is far, far to much talent on that D line to get this lack of production. -
Bills fans should be ashamed of themselves!!!
Nihilarian replied to flomoe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ever been to a Bills game when the Steelers are in town? They actually outnumber Bills fans even on the Bills side, -
It really should have been a priority when the team had two rookie QB's and a guy who had made only one game start in his entire career in Thad Lewis back in 2012. But yea, if I'm not mistaken the Bills O line was ranked dead last or near that all season last year, and was the weakest area of the team. Doug Whaley had targeted an OT, and OG in free agency but they didn't sign with Buffalo. Glenn is in a contract year, and will probably leave because the Bills won't give him top money, and some other team will (see Andy Levitre) LG Richie Incognito is only signed for one year too. What gets me is that the Bills have the most expensive D line in the game, and it is floundering right now. The Bills FO hasn't put a high value on O line players since forever. They traded away an all pro LT in Jason Peters, let an above average LG walk in Andy Levitre, and then tried to replace him with bums. I don't think the answer is 5 rookies either as some may take years to develop. Like Miller is this year. Attacking free agency, and then signing quality talent is the way to go. Signing Incognito now would be smart, and signing Glenn now would also be smart. Both are worth keeping. That leave only 2-3 positions to upgrade.

The Bills simply don't have the talent on their O line to make a power run game work like Greg Roman had in SF, and three TE's isn't going to help that much if you don't have the horses on the line. When the Bills were in a clear running formation with 3 TE's the Giants stacked the box 5 on the line, and 8 in the box. The Bills run game was mostly ineffective 24 rushes for 55 yards= a 2.3 YPC avg. and it helps to have the receivers past the first down marker on 3rd down. This happened over and over where on 3rd down the pass was completed but the receiver was tackled 3 yards behind the LoS. Taylor's passes were off target a lot in the first half, and It looked like Eli Manning was doing more roll outs then Taylor. Pass interference on Bills =1st down for the NY Giants on their first series, and resulted in a FG. I can tell you that at least 7 NY Giants first downs were the result of penalties on the Bills. This is a huge factor in the loss False start on Cujo-personal foul on #55-illegal formation defense-holding defense Darby-flag on Duke Williams ST for going out of bounds on punt-pass interference offense on Clay after catching a for a first down-false start on Cujo on third and one FIRST HALF: The Bills had 42 rushing yards, 36 passing yards = 78 yards of offense(one turnover) in the first half losing 16-3. Bills with only 2 first downs to the Giants 12 first downs in the half. 3rd QTR: 7 first downs now 118 passing yards= 159 yards total All in all 17 penalties was just to much to overcome, as this killed drives, and called back two TD's
-
One thing Bills fans need to take into consideration is that the Giants are very used to playing against a running QB in their division in RG3, and have successfully shut him down. Look at all the running QB's and where they play. Seattle with Wilson, SF with Kaepernick, Wash with RG3, Carolina with Newton, and all in the NFC!! When Taylor took off running it didn't work very often, and especially in the red zone on 4th down. FIRST HALF: The Bills had 42 rushing yards, 36 passing yards = 78 yards of offense(one turnover) in the first half losing 16-3. Bills with only 2 first downs to the Giants 12 first downs in the half. This is because the Bills are starting a QB who was playing in his fourth NFL start, and there will be growing pains.

For all the Whaley doubters
Nihilarian replied to Over 29 years of fanhood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
NFN but I don't see how McCoy or Watkins could have helped stop the 17 penalties or the 7 first downs given to the Giants resulting from those penalties. It was Karlos Williams subbing for McCoy that did so well, and not the other way around. Karlos stunk because the offensive line stunk, and was mostly ineffective in run blocking and pass blocking. Then if that wasn't enough, you have the Bills DC sending the D linemen into coverage rather then rushing the passer. Sammy after three games has a total of 7 rec for 99 yards, 1 TD. McCoy after three games has 43 attempts for 146 yards. Neither was setting the league on fire! -
special teams coach should resign
Nihilarian replied to birdog1960's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
things might be different if he was the only one. The #4 defense from last year is now ranked 30th, and only has 7 sacks. Mostly because the new DC would rather send his highly paid pass rushers into pass coverage I can tell you whats going on. This head coach isn't spending extra time or extra active players helping special teams this year, and it looks like he is just as bad as he was in his first season in Buffalo.
