Some of you can complain about a hall of fame Buffalo Bills coach who was asked by the owner to help him out as GM for a time. But, I gotta tell you that the org was a dysfunctional mess before Levy became GM and it stayed that way until recently when the Pegula's hired McD. Thankfully! Whaley was nothing more than Russ Brandon's "yes man" and so was Buddy Nix. Neither was really qualified to be an NFL GM. Nix, a 70-year-old retired chief scout hired to be the Bills GM. Whaley was the Steelers pro personnel coordinator before becoming Bills GM. Whaley's claim to fame was an inadvertent email with porn he sent to a Steelers assistant coach that was forwarded to a large number of high-level NFL employees including the NFL commissioner Rodger Goodell. Tom Donahoe was fired by the Steelers after he lost a power struggle with Bill Cowher. So what does Bills owner Ralph Wilson do? He not only hires Donahoe to be GM but he also steps down as team president and promotes ole Tom to take his place as team president. Donahoe did pretty good in his first draft and then swung a trade with NE for Drew Bledsoe in his second offseason. Donahoe even had the right idea to build a better line to protect Bledsoe but then he showed his ineptitude that got him fired from Pittsburgh by drafting Mike Williams #4 overall who was a bust at LT. This when future all-pro Bryant McKinnie went #7 to the Vikings. This was the first nail in his coffin. Hiring first time HC Gregg Williams as was another nail as was first time HC Mike Mularkey. After the 2005 season, the Tom Donahoe experiment was over and Wilson was back as team president. You know the team is screwed up when the marketing guy is listed as the GM for three years from 2008 to 2010. Arron Maybin was drafted during that time...does he own that pick? Time to stop living in the past with a thoroughly dysfunctional mess that was the old Buffalo Bills pre 2017. Think of it, the 2014 Buffalo Bills field one of the very best defenses in their history (#4 ranked) with Jim Schwartz as DC and what do they do? Let Schwartz leave and hire a head coach that hadn't had a winning season for five years. That same Jim Schwartz was the DC for the 2017 super bowl champs defense (#4 ranked).

NFL Sunday Ticket Price Increase for 2018

Direct TV was being such weenies to us after being a 15+year customer with no discount so we bailed to cable last year. I was also upset that they dropped the shortcuts that I could record and watch later on during the week when I had more time. I watched the red zone channel this past season and didn't miss the NFL package at all. Meanwhile, I saved a ton with spectrum as they gave us all the movie channels for free just for switching from DTV. Went from 5 Mbps to 70 Mbps internet speed and a landline all for around fifty dollars a month less. I'll never go back. -
This sounds about right! Levy even stated that he left it to the Scouts and Jauron to have the final call on picks. I know why the team picked Whitner and that was to replace SS Lawyer Milloy who Levy thought was all about the money. However. McCargo was a big mystery as to why they traded back up into the first round for that bum. I think this speaks as to just how bad the Buffalo Bills scouting dept was back then. All I know is I hated Asst GM Tom Modrak for his draft selections. I get the impression that picks like McCargo was his idea. Modrak a former Steelers scout like Donahoe, Whaley who also worked for them. With such weird draft choices, I used to wonder if people in the Bills scouting dept were being paid by Robert Kraft too.

My take is Denver went 5-11 last in the division last year with a first-year defensive minded HC who was almost fired at the end of the season. Elway realized he had given him bad QB's to work with so I think he is giving him another year to see what happens with an upgrade at QB. Like Cleveland and the Jets, I feel Denver is more than a QB away from taking the AFC West as they face an improved Charger team 9-7, the Chiefs and the Raiders who just hired Gruden. Denver HC fired his OC Mike McCoy during the season (week 10)and replaced him with their QB coach in Bill Musgrave who is not an upgrade in my view. Denver has a decent receiver corps and but their offensive line is bad and their vaunted defense was 22nd in points allowed last year. (#3 in yards). I feel a quality QB like Cousins will want to know what he is stepping into when he goes to a team and Denver just has so much uncertainty.
-
Cousins says he wants to win and money is secondary. If that is the case I kinda doubt the Jets will sign him as they tear apart their team to do so! Captain Kirk is a very bright guy and he knows who won last season and who didn't. He also knows which team has a winning staff and roster will factor into where he goes. Minnesota and Jacksonville would be firsts. Buffalo would be next in my eyes if they don't spend all those early picks to move up in the draft. Arizona is third and Cleveland, the NY Jets, Denver are last! I highly doubt he goes to any of those teams unless he gets no other solid offers from the others. If Buffalo wants him I think they have a solid chance without needing to empty the vault. JMHO

Where is and what happened to Leroi? We fans could use some genuine insight into the thinking of this regime. Anyway, all these rumors about trading up and giving up the farm are great should the team actually find that elusive franchise QB. I just hope that this regime realizes that the super bowl was just won by a backup QB who was never thought of as the franchise QB of any team. Yes, the team's starter in Wentz played in 13 games and went 11-2 along the way before suffering his season-ending injury. You need an all-around solid team to compete for the SB, a solid O line, a solid run game with good RBs, a solid passing game with a really good QB, quality receivers in both WRs & a top TE, a top defense with a top D line and most of all top notch coaching. The 2017 Eagles were near top 5 in both offense and defense, only 7th in the offensive yards. How many of those areas are the Buffalo Bills going to have with solid to elite players to go into the 2018 season?

Now they like Josh Allen in Trade Up?
Nihilarian replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The best part of Wyoming in 2017 was their defensive coaching staff. Not to mention that they didn't have much in offensive weapons in Wyoming. What you have in the NFL is scouts saying our coaches can fix this kids weakness and if he goes to the Browns I have doubts this kid will ever better Ryan Mallett. The NY Giants have new HC Pat Shurmur who could elevate this kid into another Wentz. Buffalo just hired an excellent OC in Brian Daboll and could do the same as Shurmur. Allen is more raw then Darnold or Rosen and needs more development but he also has a much higher ceiling and a real big-time arm. -

Yeah, that Senior Bowl performance really elevated his stock. I don't think Josh Allen is a day one starter as he needs to work with a good QB coach, OC who will teach him the ropes in the NFL and go over some footwork, mechanics issues. However, I don't think he needs a full season of sitting for him to develop and mature as an NFL QB either. If he goes to the right team with good coaching he could be very, very special. He has a Kelly-like arm that can throw a tight spiral in those swirling Buffalo winds and he doesn't have small hands like Darnold. I wouldn't be surprised if Cleveland takes him #1 overall. I just hope they don't because he needs to go to a better team with better coaching for him to excel. -

Seriously, this is why Mayock moved him up to #2 overall ahead of Rosen and Kiper moved him up to #1 overall. The kid looked like a young Big Ben in this game shedding sackers and he had touch on the ball throwing into small windows. Don't forget the competition on the other side of the ball was about equal to what he had on his side. So that glimpse of him in the senior bowl showed he is clearly better than all the negative hype around him while playing at Wyoming. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000916367/article/mike-mayocks-2018-nfl-draft-position-rankings -
The Bills NEED to go all in on getting Saquan Barkley
Nihilarian replied to SAFTB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yep, I was just trolling with that Nix comment trading up for a RB. It was Wilson who loved drafting RB's. However, Nix did trade up in the 2012 NFL draft to get WR TJ Graham in the third round #69th pick and then boasted "see, I do trade up". Meanwhile, Nix missed on QB Russell Wilson in the third round #75 and QB Nick Foles in the third round #88th pick. Ty Hilton went in the third round #92 pick and finally, QB Kirk Cousins was a fourth rounder #102 pick. If Nix knew what he was doing the Bills would have been better than 4-12, 6-10, 6-10 and no defense under Nix did better than 14th in 2011. His defenses might have had decent talent but they were in the 20's stat wise. -

Trading up two firsts for a RB is something Nix might do and even Whaley would only do that for a WR. -

What that senior bowl showed was his performance with quality players around him that actually blocked on the line and caught balls. What a lot of the scouting reports don't say is how bad his offensive line was last year and they struggled to make a block. What they also don't say is when the QB would hit the receivers in the hands and they would drop the balls again and again. You know, like Zay Jones did this year. When you have a QB who plays on a really bad team it's very difficult to properly evaluate his overall talent. The QB learns to not trust your receivers or the blocking. The simple fact was he was running for his life most of last year. Think back to 2010 Ryan Fitzpatrick's was literally running for his life the first five games and they lost the first eight games while finishing the season 4-12 Partway through that season Bills GM Buddy Nix pulled Erik Pears, Kraig Urbik off the waiver wire and they came in and improved that O line a great deal. That was the year that Nix signed Cornell green to a three year, 9 mill dollar contract in the offseason to play RT and he lasted a who six games in 2010 before cutting him outright. At least Nix was able to fix the line during the season. Then Fitz had WR Stevie Johnson who caught about 58.2% of the balls thrown to him that year. That's 141 targets, 82 receptions! Just saying, we Bills fans have a first-hand knowledge of what it's like to see a QB play on a really bad team. Before Bills fans declare him a bust because of a low completion percentage let's see how he does at the combine and his pro day. I didn't like him at first either, then I started watching his games and realized just how bad that team was he played on in 2017. -

I have no idea where you guys get these bizarre QB comparisons from? As we get close to the combine and pro days we will see more factual scouting on all these QB's and we will all get a better understanding of their rankings. Right now I see Allen as a top-four pick and perhaps even going #1 overall to Cleveland just from his play in the senior bowl as that play disproved a lot of the negative reports on him. Watch it! . -

Relax guys, Mel Kiper has Allen going #1 overall to the Browns. Todd McShay has the top 4 QBs going in the top six in this draft and states he think the top four will all be good NFL starters. Darnold, Rosen, Mayfield, Allen. So, unless the Bills can move up into the top four, #3 Colts, #4 Browns they will miss out on one of those top four guys because if they don't trade up the QB needy Broncos are sitting at #5 and the NY Jets at #6. EDIT, Oh BTW Arizona is also looking to draft a QB at the #15 spot so perhaps the Bills FO thinks one of those top four will fall past The Browns, The Giants, The Broncos, The Jets, and Buffalo moves up to beat out The Cardinals. Get ready for Mason Rudolph or Lamar Jackson and if those are the choices at 21,22 I'd say wait until round two and draft luke Faulk or later for Mike White. -
Why I would be happy with Lamar Jackson
Nihilarian replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And what happens in the NFL with a bad throw? It's usually intercepted! For every great throw, the kid makes he also makes two, three bad throws. Think Geno Smith, https://www.sbnation.com/nfl-mock-draft/2013/3/26/4150036/geno-smith-2013-nfl-draft-scouting-report I would rather keep Tyrod who may not throw as much but he will protect the ball and turn the ball over. -
Rumor: Shady on the Trade Block
Nihilarian replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Click bait garbage... -
It would indeed. I just think that moving up to the #2 spot would be cost prohibitive. Does that make sense? Let's just say for the sake of argument that because the Bills own picks later in the first round than usual @21, 22. That they will need extra ammunition to make that trade up to #2 overall. I would think that both this years #1s and next years #1 and say Glenn at LT and it might even take more than this with extra #2s. That is four to six conceivable starters for one player and almost immediately kills the chance to build through the draft this year as most 30% of all starters are obtained in the first round. Then 30% were taken in the second or third round. Roughly 26% are taken in rounds four through seven. So, most players selected after the third round have a marginal chance to even make it in the NFL. This team has far, far too many holes in the roster to give up that many prospective starters for a QB who may or may not ever become that elite franchise QB. Recently Mike Mayock listed Josh Rosen as his third best QB in this year's draft. (just sayin) This may change as we move towards the combine and pro days. Then, should the Bills keep TT or sign a better bridge QB or even Kirk Cousins they would be free to use all those first, second and later picks on players to help the team in 2018. Plus, they could trade Glenn, TT for more picks to further enhance this year's draft class. This would be what I would rather see them do. Needs, QB, WR, DT or two, LB or two, CB. This team has more needs than just a QB and I'm not sold on Rosen as being an elite NFL QB just yet.

I'm not offended at all, so no apology needed. I was thinking of a different article I had read from about his stats from 2015-2017 and should have simply stated career. The rest was quoted from an article I didn't write. When attempting to make that post with all the drives this morning for some reason it wouldn't let me add that last line so I edited right away. Which, apparently wasn't fast enough.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/gwd_career.htm If you look at the team the guy has been on the last three years with a bad offensive line, no real rushing attack you have to start to think the man is doing it mostly by himself! Then, you would think that since he lost his brilliant OC in Sean McVey (in which Cousins threw for almost five thousand yards in 2016) to the Rams that Cousins will now fall on his face with ex-backup QB/ QB coach in Matt Cavanaugh as his new first time OC. Instead, Captain Kirk throws for over four thousand yards, 27 TDs, 13 INTs. I'd say Kirk Cousins is in rare company as a top ten NFL QB (or better) and did so on a mostly bad team. Give the man a decent rushing attack, defense and you have a super bowl contender along with Buffalo finally being a solid contender for the AFC East! Why not pay the guy 25 mill or more per as the Bills GM stated he would build through the draft and in signing him they could do just that with those two 1sts, two 2nds and that third. That's five probable starters from the draft this year!

Nihilarian replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Like Mike Mayock stated he watched him make an amazing throw only to follow it up with a few bad throws...then make another amazing throw. He is the not careful with the ball Tyrod Taylor. If the Bills want another running QB and allow me to list his weakness, 6'3'' 200lbs. He could get killed in the NFL WEAKNESSES Carries spindly legs and a thin base. Slightly built for punishing hits he takes from pocket and as a runner. Must learn to slide. Lackadaisical in setup. Throws with excessively narrow base and stiff front side. Flips it rather than throws it. Makes targets work too hard. Sails throws that can end up in hands of a safety. At times, hesitates to challenge safeties in the seam. Low release point leads to tipped passes. Typically gets through reads 1 and 2 before halting progressions. Pocket awareness has room for improvement. Move accuracy on rollouts and scrambles is poor. Highly inaccurate with throws on the move throughout the 2017 season. Underthrown deep balls allow cornerbacks to play the ball. Lacks touch over the heads of middle linebackers into intermediate pockets. Turnover total still too high. http://www.nfl.com/draft/2018/profiles/lamar-jackson?id=2560053 -
It was noted by reporters who would interview the Denver receivers after games as to why they had little X's all over their chests? They stated it was because Elway's arm is so strong and he throws such a fastball. On a side note, the NY Yankees selected Elway in the second round of 1981 MLB draft and HoFer Tony Gwynn was taken six picks later. George Steinbrenner stated that he thought Elway could be another Mickey Mantle. They gave Elway a $140k bonus which was more than they gave their first-round pick. Shifting gears again here. I think all this talk of Rosen is just smoke as I just don't see this GM/McD moving up to the #2 spot and giving up perhaps three firsts and/or Glenn for an unknown at QB when the team has so many holes on the current roster to fill. It simply doesn't fit their respective DNA when Beane stated he will build through the draft. Giving up all those picks for a QB who may or may not become a solid starter could be a regime killer. Think Ryan Leaf, RG3, JaMarcus Russell, Vince Young, David Carr, Jake Locker et al.
