Bet he is the 7th QB off the board behind Jackson and Lauletta, 2nd to 3rd rounder probably. Fans tend to push all QBs further up boards than NFL teams do. People were talking about Peterman in the 2nd last year.

No problem! Not a ton of Allen fanboys on the board compared to the other QBs so I think it slipped through the cracks. I had posted it once before, but I saw this article didn’t have the private workout listed so thought I would contribute.

Love the Baker pick and how we got to 4. everyone else is over drafted, tho I do like Ragnow and Jewell later in the draft.

Still think Maybin is a bigger bust than EJ. Drafted earlier in the draft order, never registered a sack as a Bill. Watkins is probably number 1 bc 2 first round picks even tho he was decent when healthy.

I think Rudolph is gonna surprise a lot of people with a slide in the draft. Don’t even think he will be the 6th QB taken. Lauletta will probably go before him.

Interesting coming from Jeremy. Would be pumped to get Baker without losing a ton of picks to move up. Can’t wait for the draft to just get here already.

Can’t wait to see Allen’s pro day, as a football fan. If he keeps showing better feet and improved accuracy, a lot of teams are going to want to take a shot on him.

I endorse Josh, but this does not mean he doesn’t have things to work on. Keeping that in mind... Allen was lightly recruited out of high school. He played QB at his rural town in California but also spent much of the year playing basketball and baseball. That is, when he wasn’t helping his family lay irrigation pipes on his farm. Unlike most of the other QBs in this draft, he did not go through the QB camp circuit. Allen went into college as a player who was not developed. Allen was spurned by his favorite team, Fresno State (along with every other major school) and so decided to take a year at JUCO. After which, he sent his highlight tape around to all the Div-1 schools. For whatever reason, Wyoming was the only school to offer him a scholarship as a QB. Josh came to WYO in Coach Bohl’s second year on the job. Coach Bohl coached North Dakota State where he had another big QB named Carson Wentz. Both Wentz and Allen had issues with their footwork coming out of college. Bohl is not a good QB developer, but pretty good at picking late blooming QBs. Wyoming was bad for Bohl’s first two years until a sophomore QB named Josh Allen entered the starting lineup. Wyoming went from out of bowl contention to 8 wins, with a shot at the conference crown after knocking off perennial power Boise St. in the regular season. (WYO would lose the championship game). Allen returned for his junior year with a much younger team. More was put on Allen to make things happen, to call protections and be an overall leader of the team. Allen struggled early against Div1 opponents but dragged Wyoming to several wins. Then, as Wyoming felt the team was starting to gel, Allen went down with an injury. Wyoming proceeded to lose its next two games, including to San Jose St, one of the worst teams in Div1 that year. Allen returned and led Wyoming to a win in its bowl game. Next, Allen went to the Senior Bowl and was up and down in practice before doing well in the game. Allen then went to the combine and displayed his great arm, much better mechanics (after only a few months of good training from a QB coach) and was described by scouts as the alpha of the quarterbacks there. We will get to see Allen at his pro day on Friday to see if his throwing continues to take a Cam Newton pre draft trajectory with all the work he has put in. Allen is a ball of clay that will not reach his potential - if at all - for a few years. And that is scary. I believe in the kid as I think he is just being taught how to play the QB position right. We saw what Wentz was able to do with excellent coaching and Allen has that same work ethic. His completion percentage in college was not good. Some of that was on Allen, some on his system and some on his supporting cast. But Allen was WYOs offense last year. His arm made it very tough for defenses as they had to cover the entire field at all times. With Allen, it is all projection. Some don’t have the stomach for it at such a premium position. But unlike some other big arm QB duds, Allen has a great work ethic, is a fiery competitor and is a good person. It’d be nice to take him later and develop but for QBs with that skill set and personality, sometimes you have to draft high and expect that your coaching will reap the rewards it did for Philly with Wentz...que tl;dr

1. Baker Mayfield + can make every throw, good accuracy, ridiculous efficiency goes beyond scheme, experienced, goes through progressions, mini Ben Roethlisberger - short, will need to get even better at identifying passing lanes like Brees does as NFL teams will look to keep him in the pocket 2. Sam Darnold + a better Patrick Mahomes, ball flys out of his hand, pretty accurate off all platforms, very mobile, great personality for the position - throwing motion is elongated, fumbling problems going back to high school from how he holds the ball, his windup and smaller hands. 3. Josh Allen + Ultra competitive, describes as the Alpha QB of the group, makes every throw and puts pressure on the defense to cover the entire field, mobile, played in a pro style spread offense, was given more responsibility this year with the outflux of talent Wyoming had after the 2016 season, Wyoming tanked when he was injured...oh yea, amazing arm. - needs to continue working on his feet to ensure consistent accuracy, is not a finished product. 4. Josh Rosen + great accuracy and used to picking apart the middle of the field, machine out there with consistent mechanics and consistently good accuracy. - concussions kept him out of his last college game, lacks mobility, ok arm but does not make challenging boundary throws often. 5. Lamar Jackson + great progression as a passer, another QB tasked with carrying a roster lacking in talent, amazing mobility but is good at resetting feet to pass rather than running, playmaker with a big arm. - just needs more reps, would benefit from widening his base on his throws, slender build may be a problem with hits in the NFL. 6. I don’t have a sixth bc I don’t think anyone else has a chance to be good later on. Get one of the top 5.

Thats because he was trying difficult throws. Not every time, but way more often than Oklahoma or Oklahoma State. every so often he would spray an EJ type of throw, but not all the time. Coach Bohl has been great at finding late bloomer QBs and giving them a chance but pretty bad at developing them. both Wentz and Allen spent their time in college with raw footwork, and Wentz finally saw good improvement at his footwork and accuracy this year with a year of good NFL coaching. Allen will need to continue showing improved footwork, and he did at the combine. If he can become consistent, you are going to see an amazing jump in his accuracy.

Can you name me a good QB who is shorter than 6’1’’ and doesn’t run a 4.5? Can you name me a good QB from USC in the last 15 years? see, those types of arguments can be made many, many ways. And I love all the top 5 QBs.

Everyone should relax. If Beane wanted the third pick, he would have been able to outbid the jets. im pretty confident that we either will make the trade for the Giants pick, or we have a bunch of guys graded the same and we will move up to get whichever one is last off the board. only 6 more weeks of madness...

You get a lot of people that look at stats and make their decision on who the best QB is. That’s why so many people call Allen garbage and think that Mayfield is football jeebus’s QB gift to earth. In reality, those two are probably much closer to each other from a scouting perspective. Personally, Allen is 3rd for me out of this class. Unfortunately, it takes a couple years for either side to be vindicated.

Definitely agree. Did you know that we didn’t draft a DLineman in ANY round in the 2012, 2013, 2014 or 2015 draft? Just crazy - especially when you look at the QBs, RBs and CBs we took in that timeframe - and it has caught up to us.

Build that Dline rotation! He has been a disappointment so far but I like the idea of bringing guys like him in that have all the athleticism you could want but that haven’t been able to put it together.
