UPDATED - v3.0 (FINAL) on p.13 - Gunner's 2023 Mock Draft

This is a good catch. Another interesting part of the invites is that Addison, JSN and Flowers are invited but not Quentin Johnston https://www.the33rdteam.com/category/nfl-draft/2023-nfl-draft-breakdown-of-17-players-invited-to-draft/ -

Haha you know it. McDermott is calling the defensive plays this year. He is gonna want to look good so we are probably going LB, DT, DT with our first three picks 🤢 -

Sorry that was confusing how I worded that. I meant Hyatt in the second would be good for me or wait until later rounds for Scott or Palmer. If we went Hyatt, at least we are getting someone with an elite trait I will say that. Can’t wait for the draft to be here -

I think we are going to be surprised about Bergeron and how early he goes. To me he has the quickest feet among the top OTs. Johnson, Jones, Bergeron and Wright I think will go rd 1. Skoronski too depending on if he is a guard or tackle on the next level. I’m hoping that Beane’s comments about protecting their franchise QB after the season extends beyond a couple veteran guards but you may be right. For Hyatt, the problem is he basically only had free releases in college and so unless you are going to only put him in the slot you have to hope he can learn to be an outside player like Chark or MVS who he is much thinner than. So I think you are hoping he can develop into that which is a little rich for Rd 1. Matt Harmon does his reception perception for the draft class each year and Hyatt basically only was good at 9s and below average at everything else. A little too much risk for rd 1 for me. Rd 2 I could live with or wait for Tyler Scott or Trey Palmer. But love the thought exercise of your draft, thank you -
Still so many excellent CB and DE available in FA

I would be a bit disappointed if that is how it shook out. Hyatt certainly has an elite trait but definitely have my doubts he can be more than an MVS or DJ Chark. One thing that is interesting to the top 30 visits is local teams do not count against the top 30 visits. I believe for the Bills that includes UB, Penn State and, of course, Syracuse. It was reported that Kromer was working out Matthew Bergeron during SUs pro day. I think Bergeron is going first round and is a top 3 OT for me. In the event of that draft I would go with him. -

I imagine the next wave of signings for the league as a whole will come after the draft and again when it stops affecting comp picks. -
Players you Absolutely Want the Bills to Draft

Matthew Bergeron AT Perry Tank Dell Dylan Horton Yasir Abdullah -
This is gonna be one of those years WR 6-10 outperforms WR 2-5, I think. JSN will be good then Flowers Addison Johnston Hyatt are all going to depend on the offense. then later Tillman, Mingo, Scott, Rice and AT Perry are better sized, all played outside and either have had production or were stuck with some garbage QBs. AT Perry looks like Clemson Tee Higgins to me. Long, bendy, and really uses that length well to separate from corners that he can’t outrun. Hartman was a garbage QB in a weird offense and Perry still had two great seasons. Watching some of his pre-draft interviews were impressive too. But honestly I could see a path for any of those WRs being viewed as day 2 picks turning into good WRs but no sure thing (aside from Perry imo haha).

With the 88th pick in the draft the Jacksonville Jaguars select Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson, CB, TCU Though the Jags secondary could use an influx of talent, the biggest need is a slot corner. There may be none better or smaller in the draft than LT’s nephew. An explosive player that doesn’t just cover but makes plays on the ball and plays bigger than his tiny frame. With 89th pick the Giants and @Chaos are on the clock @Virgil

I mean when is the last first round pick we made that played a ton? Ed Oliver I guess? Rousseau and Elam both rotated and Elam was a healthy scratch at times. Dawkins won’t be here forever probably not even in two years, Brown got Josh’s elbow jacked up last year. It’s a good time to get a talented tackle prospect in the building and let him be the starter at RT or swing tackle, OL get hurt. As for tight end, rookie tight ends take a while to develop as well, hard position to translate. And that would assume we would use 2 TE sets much more than we have recently. I think a mid round tight end that can block and catch a few passes fits more with the TE2 we are looking for. Schoonmaker who we just had in for a visit or Brenton Strange are good blockers in college and have some athleticism.

Hey @Virgil mannc took Ika Siaki for the Lions and I took Dawand Jones for the Jags
-
I do think that the new guards will help the line overall. However, Brown really has been not good to average his first two years in the league. We currently have David Quessenbury as our swing tackle. I think it would be wise to draft a tackle early. Whether the rookie pushes Brown to the bench or Brown plays good enough to hold onto that spot, now your tackle position isn’t so thin and dependent on Spencer Brown taking a step in year 3.
-
Though I really like a few guys as a possible RT upgrades still, I agree the guys that seem like clear cut upgrades are gone

With the 56th pick in the 2023 TSW Mock Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select Dawand Jones OT, OSU Cam Robinson has been a solid left tackle for the Jags but continues to have injuries to his knees, the last of which cost him the end of the 2022 season. In his absence Walker Little excelled at LT. Robinson will be on the team through this year at which point he can be release for a modest cap hit. Getting The Mountain to fill the right side spot vacated by Jawan Taylor is too good to pass up in this spot. Though we do have concerns about Jones being just too big, he really has played well in college and the senior bowl. This should establish bookend tackles for the Jags for the foreseeable future. The Giants and @Chaos are now on the clock. @Virgil

Draft Prospect Interviews with Bills - Post 'em here

Many people said he was the best TE at the senior bowl which included Luke Musgrave -
They drafted Cam Jurgens in the second round last year and actually asked for Kelce’s opinion on who his heir should be and he told them to select Jurgens. Schmitz can probably play all along the interior if needed so can still be useful to them even if Jurgens is the successor.

You know that JJs best trait coming out of college was his route running right? Lol. Eagles took Jalen Reager ahead of him Because he was considered the more explosive athlete AJB was a second rounder Tyreek was a fifth Hopkins was a late first in the worst draft of this century Chase had it all tho There is actually a negative correlation between speed and productivity at the WR position “Some more coorellations: -0 .38 between a players combine or pro day 40 time and his yards per catch in the NFL.” https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2023/insider/story/_/id/35981045/2023-nfl-draft-how-top-receivers-dominate-stats-matter-flowers-smith-njigba-addison-johnston-hyatt IMO Addison is WR2 in the class. You would like him to be bigger but aside from that I think he is a great option at 27 if we go the WR route. Good football player who will be productive right away. Was productive early in college, was productive in two different schemes, in two different positions, in two different colleges. That is hard to do.
-
Yea I don’t think they will take Ika at 27 but if Aranda tells McDermott he is a good player and person I think he will be the pick at 59. I know we all want offensive players early - especially me - but with McDermott taking over the defensive play calling I think he is going to want to add a lot of defensive talent to help him succeed.
-
Nah Mcdemott is gonna want Siaki Ika from his buddy Aranda’s college
-
With the 24th pick in the 2023 NFL draft the Jacksonville Jaguars select Mazi Smith, DL Michigan Though it can be argued CB is a bigger need for the Jags, we disagree. Last year, we set up Trevor Lawrence for success by adding Kirk, Zay Jones, Evan Engram and trading for Calvin Ridley. Making sure he succeeded was priority 1. Next up we want to make sure our #1 overall pick last year Travon Walker succeeds by putting the biggest freak in the draft next to him. At 323 pounds and nearly 34 inch arms, we feel he can fill the role Arik Armstead and Deforest Buckner did when GM Baalke was making picks for the 49ers. We think Smith has the ability to control multiple blockers and allowing Walker as well as the other Josh Allen to eat one on ones on the outside. Not to mention some ability of his own to get into the backfield with more coaching. And with that DUVAAAAAAL. The Giants and @Chaosare now on the clock at pick 25. @Virgil

Problem with that is you may lose your 2nd or 3rd depending on the trade up. For me the draft is a crapshoot and the more swings you get to take the more likely you get one right. Doesn’t help I don’t think moving up in this draft nets you someone significantly better than someone at 27 or later I guess
-
We only have 6 picks this year and moving up even a little bit likely takes at least one of our top 4 picks this year (took a 4th to move up 2 spots for Elam last year) or assets from next year when it will hopefully be a stronger draft. Beane should be focusing on getting deals to move back to gain more assets before ever thinking about moving up. Our team is getting more and more expensive each year. The more picks you have the more chances you have on hitting on a star player or at least filling your depth with cheap labor in the future. I hope and trust Beane will make the smart decision. Can’t wait for the draft to finally be here lol

Draft Prospect Interviews with Bills - Post 'em here
LEBills replied to Yantha's topic in The Stadium Wall
If I had to guess, the Bills top priority is to upgrade the OL anyway possible whether that is upgrading Bates or Brown or both on the RT side. Bates is only getting about 4 mil per year and is the primary backup at Center so moving him back to the bench is not out of the question imo and may be the reason they think McGovern will be the LG. I don’t think the scheme part is much of a concern when they are looking for talent. Torrence is certainly bigger and less of a mover than they normally have on the line but it doesn’t mean he can’t play RG in our system. They also interviewed Steve Avila who is pretty athletic for his size but not an above 9 RAS guy like most of our line now. I don’t think Torrence will be the guy we take but I think it shows we are looking very, very closely at OL this draft. Or at least that is wishful thinking for me. -
Good riddance
