  1. Investment advisers aren't allowed to charge their customers based on performance unless the client's account is worth $750k (and the client is worth at least $1.5 million). They have to charge either a flat fee, hourly, or a percentage of assets. It's a terrible rule.
  2. is sort of related to the health industry as well as the economy. I found it interesting, and I've been called, no introduced as a cynic.
  3. It was even better in closed caption: Nick Faldo: ... Just trying to let it release a little bit more. Bill MacAtee: Tiger waits... [Pllllppppppptttttttt] Al Czervik:
  4. Got this from a Yankees fan today. Worth the read.
  5. "Read My Lips" version 2009
  6. Sounds like a great show. Saw them together at the Bank Atlantic Center (where the FL Panthers play) in 2003. Great show and your description matches what I saw then, except instead of a roadie doing AC/DC, we got Rickey Martin singing "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On". Edge: you. I saw Springsteen at the Spectrum in '92, but since it was the Human Touch deal without the E Street band, does it really count? Others I saw there: REM '89, Clapton '92, Peter Gabriel '93, Jordan in the playoffs going for 44 vs. the Sixers (Barkley had 34), Andrew Dice Clay '90(?), & the Buffalo Bandits winning the title in '92. Great house for a lot of years.
  7. I lived in South FL for 9 years and saw most of the state in that time. Between Daytona, Orlando & Tampa - If I were 27, single and a sports fan, I'd go with Tampa. Ybor City is very cool and you have greater access to pro teams. Orlando would work too, but I like being near the water. Just my $0.02 Since you'll be on the road quite a bit, you'll see lots of the state. You can always move, right?
  8. I thought that Inigo Montoya said that? Love the Sipowicz reference. Didn't John the receptionist get a dictionary out for Andy on that one? That was a great show.
  9. File photo of August Peters
  10. So, no Bills fans?
  11. I saw a couple of months ago. I'm not one for showtunes, but I thought it was pretty epic.
  12. Quick story... April 1994 - We're a bunch of idiot lieutenants (redundancy) getting ready for a week-long FTX at Ft. Gordon. The Friday before, we get a briefing from a TAC Officer who happens to be African American. He is stressing that we should not be afraid to make mistakes, nor should we fear looking stupid by not knowing something. "If you don't know something, axe somebody. If you got a question, axe someone. We don't expect you to know everything, that's why you're here. You need to know, right? Don't be afraid to axe someone." Little Swedish girl from Minnesota (hey, another redundancy) raises her had and in a poor attempt at humor asks, "Sir, will we be issued axes for the FTX?" A few polite chuckles, but the rest of us just look at our boots. The captain replies with a wry smile, "I'm sorry. ASK somebody."
  13. Hmmm... Shoemaker-Levy hit in the "Southern Hemisphere" of Jupiter and now this. Some folks call it the "Bottom" of the big planet. Yeah... that's right... Jupiter is a "Bottom". The largest planet in our solar system plays for the other team!* "Fabulous!" *Apologies to anyone that plays for the other team. It was an easy joke, so I took it.
  14. Lawrence: Peter... watch out for your cornhole, bud.
  15. I can see both sides of this one. I thought it was friggin' great but if they had asked me, I would have told them to save it for the reception. Then again, they didn't ask so whatever makes them happy. Nice to see those Minnesota guys still sporting the playoff beards in July, though. I was at a "non-traditional" wedding in Milwaukee a couple of weeks ago. There were not one, but two male bridesmaids. It doesn't stop there: One of the bridesdudes dates one of the regular bridesmaids and they went on the honeymoon with the couple. Never heard that one before. I love weddings. Just point me to the open bar, and I'm all good.
  16. MLB Network joined in the 9th. And yes, I do enjoy working from home. DeWayne Wise's catch in that situation will stick with you. The greatest "robbing a home run" catches in my memory were (1) Ken Griffey Sr. running up the left field wall in Yankee Stadium circa '83, (2) Torii Hunter's robbing Barry Bonds in the All-Star Game, (3) Carl Crawford snatching Brad Hawpe's HR in the AS game just last week & (4) that ridiculous catch that Gary Matthews Jr made a couple of years ago. This one trumps them all just because it represented the 18th perfecto in MLB history. Amazing. [Tangent: Tom Browning threw his perfect game the night I drove to college for the first time. My dad and I listened to it on the radio. Thought you should know that.] One one I found interesting: this was the first ML no-hitter that Steve Stone has ever seen in person. Seems odd for a guy to pitch for a number of years then broadcast for nearly another 30 before seeing a no-no.
  17. And one! The cover-up is worse than the crime... and the crime appears to be that LBJ was a bit slow on helping, and that happens all the time.
  18. I couldn't find a quick answer with Google (and how is that possible?). I remember hearing when I was a kid that it was Chesapeake Bay mud. I guess there's less hypodermic needle risk that way.
  19. Other than that, I'm just gonna keep my mouth shut here.
  20. She's afraid of the dark. AND pregnant. Since someone already posted Margaret Brennan, I'll go with the Street Sweetie, Erin Burnett. Rebecca Jarvis is nice, too. I'm a big fan of Becky Quick, but so is Warren Buffett.
  21. You shoulda called the guy "Fredo". You know... 'cause he was drinking Banana Daiquiris.
  22. I use Twitter as basically a better RSS feed. I follow about 80 people, mostly market-related folks. I was just recommended on "Follow Friday" by a guy in NYC that has ~8000 followers. My business partner is much better at this and has quite a few high-profile followers that re-tweet his posts. I'm actually pretty impressed how useful Twitter is, when properly employed.
  23. I got two "tweets" today from actors saying they had been nominated (Rainn Wilson & Louis CK). I looked at that list and wondered how in the world I wasn't nominated for something? Maybe next year when they create another dozen categories for TVs annual "Hooray for us" celebration. Anyway, nice to see FOTC getting recognition. It never failed to make me laugh.
  24. I just was having a conversation this weekend about, "What would be your at-bat music if you were a MLBer?" My buddy said "Monkey Man". That's a pretty solid choice. I said I liked the horn intro to "Hold On, I'm Comin'". Chase Utley uses "Kashmir" which is badass. As for my favorite Stones song I'd have to go with "Dead Flowers". It's probably my favorite song about heroin addiction.
