I graduated from Drexel in '93, so Cavanaugh's at 39th & Sansom was my bar. Right when I was turning 21, Delaware Ave was coming alive so there was lots to do. I used to watch the Bills play at a sports bar down there. It went out of business after the '91 season and became a club. Lots and lots of package stores. There was a place in Phoenixville (worked there for a co-op job for PECO) that was a drive through. Not like a fast food joint, mind you. You drove your car into a garage-like building and popped your trunk. A guy took your order and yelled it to a kid who picked up your case and put in your trunk why the other guy made change. I'm sure there is some sort of internet site that can assist you in finding such an establishment.

Congrats Pooj! I went to school in Philly and still have friends & family in KoP. AJ's public transportation advice is right on for two reasons - (1) It's great and can get you anywhere, and (B) it will keep you out of the horrific traffic that makes you angry and takes years off of your life. Try to live close to work so you can avoid weekday traffic. Take the Schuykill Expressway (Sure-kill Crawlway) only when you absolutely have to (e.g. to see Roy Halladay pitch, aforementioned Pat's Steak, etc). Manayunk is fantastic, as said. Find your way around, and you'll like it.

I saw a few of those orange ones when I lived down there. I took a picture of one at a golf course with my old camera phone. The quality was so bad it's not worth uploading, but I would say that Dave's description is apt. Lots of interesting sights down there in South FL.

The 'neighbor' that called the police to report the stash needs to pack up their things and start heading north on US1. That kind of attitude does not work in the Keys.

So you want to be a Roofer like The Hammer
HopsGuy replied to Hammered a Lot's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I enjoyed it. It's been running on HBO/Cinemax the last couple of months. Short, sweet indie film. The production values aren't all that high, but the acting is decent and there are some legitimately funny scenes. FWIW, SI named it the sports movie of the year (2008). -
It's official per Chris Cornell. No word on Citizen Dick.

A guy who doesn't come up nearly often enough
HopsGuy replied to The Big Cat's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I got sucked into that movie one late night/early morning. Anytime you're flipping around the cable channels and come upon a scene where Yaphet Kotto is doing a scene with Eric Roberts in South Buffalo near Graybar, you stop and watch. That's one of my rules, anyway. If the plot involves the Russian Mob, all the better. -
What's your favorite Christmas Song?

Here's a nice version by the Yale acapella group the Wiffenpoofs on "The West Wing". -
Despite the negative review I posted earlier (and probably because you guys trashed it ), I got the Droid. I ordered it through the Dell link that Doc provided on Saturday and it arrived on Wednesday. There was a little confusion in that when I ordered I got an email stating that I had to call to clarify some information but the person in Bangalore/Mumbai said that everything was fine as far as they could see. Another email said that I would be assigned a new number, so I did an online chat and that person ("Umesh") said that it looked fine on their end, but it would be escalated to their "Porting Department". Whatever. On Tuesday my AT&T phone went dead, so I figured they did something right. When I got the phone I charged it and then called my old number and the Droid rang. Success! This is my first smart phone, so I think my opinion would probably be overly ebullient. The phone has a nice heft to it. The screen is amazingly clear. The functions are mostly intuitive, but I'm encountering a bit of a learning curve. I've only used the camera to test it and it worked fine for me. While I did notice a bit of latency, it didn't seem that different than other cell-phone cameras I've used. Since there is no SIM card, I ended up entering phone numbers into my gmail contacts and synching. That was pretty easy. I wanted my own custom ringtones and I found a way to do that easily enough. What I didn't expect was that all of "My Music" would be downloaded to the phone. That was a pleasant surprise. The GPS/mapping feature is friggin' awesome. So is the voice search. Just say "Pizza" and pins appear on the map I've added a few free apps: Weather Channel, Swift (Twitter app), & Pandora. I'll probably wait on using Pandora because there was a warning screen about how it will use a ton of bandwidth. The keyboard took a bit of getting used to, but once I learned to use my nails rather than mashing a few keys at the same time (a la Homer Simpson) it works pretty well. Trying to use the screen keyboard in the portrait orientation is a fool's game. So after 36 hours with the Droid, I'd have to say I'm pretty happy with it.

Favorite "The Office" Character and Episode
HopsGuy replied to Steely Dan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I said Dwight and Erin. Dwight is one of the great characters in TV history, for me anyway. I put him up there with Kramer, Rev. Jim, and Homer Simpson/Peter Griffin. I like Erin now because she's taken that role of the innocent "what-the-heck-is-going-on-here?" girl that Pam used to play. Also she in a legendary College Humor video called b-job girl, so whenever she appears on screen I say "Hey, b-job girl!" and that always makes me smile. Always. Really difficult to pick one episode, so off the top of my head I'll go with "Night Out". "I'll have a Midori Sour and an order of chicken fingers." Do yourself a favor and watch the British versions. Ricky Gervais is far and away the king of cringe. His second series "Extras" was great, but for different reasons. The celebrities would be the ones acting weird, making him uncomfortable. -
'Men of a Certain Age' premiers tonight...

"The hot ones drive you to other distractions like, hotesses, waitresses & Perkins managers." - E. Woods This Tiger thing is like comedic toy chest. -
Last week I was joking with some of my old co-workers about the Tiger mess. One guy responded with "I doubt 'xxxx' will say anything. I wonder if I should 'out' her?" I responded, "Who is 'xxxx'?" Him: "You know her. She was in my wedding." Me: "I can't for the life of me remember her. Is she hot or like one of these skanks?" Him: "She's hot. Brunette, tan, big bre... ahhh, yeah she's sorta skanky. She met him at a party in NYC. Jeter and MJ were there, too. She ended up sleeping with Tiger." I thought it was interesting that I was 2 degrees of separation from this story. With the way things are going, I bet we all are.

Setting the Tivo. I was a fan of Andre Braugher on "Homicide: Life on the Street". He owned* that role. "He who loses control, loses." *Of course, everyone on that show was awesome. It's amazing how good actors can be when they have great scripts, directors, and DPs, right? -
Hitler was a Christian. And 9/11 was a "faith-based initiative". Some people are good. Some people are evil. Your god made all of them. Get over it.

I bet he's not.* *Paid for college behind the bar.

Looking at the title of the thread and I'm thinking it might be a case of "Mis-heard lyrics": Hey, (hey!) Zeus, (Zeus!) Get offa My Car! I heard Tiger was "found lying in the street outside of his wrecked car with no shoes and snoring loudly." So what - now he's Peter Griffin? It's been one of those days. (Sigh)

Do yourself a favor: 1 cup skim milk 3/8 cup whey protein (usually comes with a 90 cc scoop) 1 frozen banana 2 tablespoons peanut butter (optional) Combine in blender. Blend until smooth. You're welcome.
