What I'd like to see: 1. No changes to coaching staff, even in spite of the problems. Let's try going one off-season with continuity. I'm frustrated with the big drop in production too but the defense has had a new coordinator every season for the past four years (Wanny, Pettine, Schwartz, Thurman). 2. Trade or restructure Mario and Kyle. 3. Fully implement the 3-4 that Rex clearly wants to do, so LB / S / NT need to be addressed through combination of FA and the Draft, depending whose available. Dareus is too good to be a space-eating-NT so he moves to the edge in Rex's 3-4. 4. Re-sign Glenn/Incognito 5. OL should be addressed in FA and Draft — give up on Kujo and admit Henderson should be depth, so RT is the big need here, ideally a FA acquisition. Miller/Urbik are serviceable at RG if no better option presents itself. Draft best available OL early, even if it's a LT or C, because we need depth across the board here. 6. Need a veteran WR2. It's a shame neither Mike Williams nor Percy worked out but its the right idea. Brandon Marshall was, imo, clearly the big miss of the offseason this year and very well could've changed several outcomes this year if he were on the team. Some of those 2 minute drills might've ended differently if there were more threats than just Sammy and sometimes Clay. Hogan is a fine #3. I don't think Robert Woods should be on the team next year. 7. With no scheme changes and a lot of returning personnel next year, OTAs and Camp need to focus on fundamentals, to an annoyingly obsessive degree, with a huge emphasis on avoiding any techniques that will draw a flag.

Incredibly frustrating to see him give up on it, especially in that situation.

Kyle Orton/Doug Marrone/Fred Jackson?

I found myself thinking today it's kind of a shame Stevie Johnson never had a chance to stick around to play with Sammy and Tyrod. Even though SJ had his issues and doesn't have the size you'd ideally want, he was a great intermediate threat, great slant and over the middle routes. Paired with a legitimate deep threat in Sammy... who knows. -
Mills was bad today. No telling if Henderson would have been worse but Mills was bad.
-
Can we at least agree on this? (Tyrod)
LA Grant replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, yes, a thousand times yes to this. Clay being out today was a big factor as he's our ONLY threat over the middle. Robert Woods and Chris Hogan are both #3 receivers and none of our WRs have the combination of size and toughness to win the important battles consistently. You put Tyrod with Decker & Marshall at WR and then try to say Fitz is the better QB. No way. -
How many penalties did the team commit today? But sure, let's start the campaign to run the best player to play for the Bills in years out of town. Cool plan.

Penalties are the biggest problem, by far
LA Grant replied to LA Grant's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It really makes no logical sense. The rules are not changing. The officials do not change how they call these things. And it's not like we're getting ticky tacky calls — 90% of the time they are blatant, flagrant fouls. Not to mention how many of them are just plain stupid — taunting, late hits, offsides/neutral zone. Yet they seem to think the problem exists outside of themselves. -

Maybe hire a Drill Sergeant to come in and just force these guys to run drills on basic fundamentals all day the rest of the year. I'm kidding but yeah I don't know what's a realistic answer. If Rex isn't going to hold himself accountable, Pegula needs to somehow. The penalties are inexcusable and unfortunately only a symptom of the larger problem which as you say is they're not detail oriented. WRs quit on routes, poor form in tackling, absolutely absurd taunting penalties. It's so frustrating! Sounds good but I don't know if we'd have enough players to field a team then. -
There are plenty of problems with this team but BY FAR the biggest one, all year!, has been penalties. Stalling or outright killing drives. Prolonging drives for the opponents. It's ridiculous. No team is going to win with the amount of penalties we've been drawing. The blame for that falls squarely on Rex. I don't think it's a good idea to fire Rex and change direction mid-stream yet again but something needs to be done. I'm tired of hearing them blame the officials. Figure it out. I'm not sure what the exact solution is but maybe Pegula needs to get more involved and put some pressure on the coaches. Maybe the coaching staff gets fined for every penalty? I don't know the specific answer but it's a major problem and needs to be addressed in a more serious way than it has been.

Yeah. The pass wasn't accurate but the INT may have been prevented if Woods hadn't pulled up. It's pretty annoying how frequently our receivers do that, tbh.
-
Yep. The inconsistency in leadership and direction is a big part of the problem. No choice now but to stay the course and adjust and improve.

Sporting News: Tyrod Is Rex's Best Bills Deal
LA Grant replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Are we totally sure Dareus can't play edge? Hughes and Dareus at DE plus a true NT which shouldn't be impossible to find. I think Mario is gone next year and probably so is Kyle. I'm not sure why they didn't hold onto Red Bryant but maybe he's done for, I haven't seen him play. Either way, yeah OLB/ILB are the biggest weak points and then a real Safety in place of Graham who could move back to Nickel corner. Fill those holes and this unit is elite next year, I think. -

Not many personnel changes need to happen for the players to be ideal for Rex's system — we need a playmaking Safety and Linebacker. We would've needed those anyway. -

Veteran QB #2 and Veteran WR #2 would have made big differences this year. We had both at one point! -

Philidelphia Eagles Message Boards?
LA Grant replied to buffalobillsfootball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah he mentions he's in Bakersfield. Maybe he was born in Philly or has family from there or something? Or maybe he chose randomly. It seems like he's only late teens/early 20s by the looks of it. Either way his videos are funny. -

I maintain that Rex has great GM instincts. But you wouldn't want to give him complete control. He and Whaley have balanced each other out for the most part. This past off-season was the best in years. -

Herm Edwards Rant Toward Mccoy and Murray
LA Grant replied to Protocal69's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's a nutcase. He was when he was a coach and looks like he still is. His outburst and role in the media is way more of "a distraction from the game" than anything McCoy said. -
Yeah, I thought he was pretty clear — they're not friends, so why should they act like friends? He pointed out that he gave Andy Reid "a big ol' slap on the butt" because they have that kind of relationship and that there's no lost love between himself and Chip. I think it's clear Shady just doesn't know how to handle rejection, he's probably never really had to deal with it. Media won't be letting this go, though. They'll tie this storyline into however the game unfolds, right or not.

Herm seems like an insane person in this clip.
