Ryan Bates has eye on starting role [paywall]
TPS replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just to be clear, I think they could certainly pick BPA at a lot of positions and improve those, so I wouldn't complain if they picked one of either Harris or Ettiene, for example. The only obvious area where they don't need to upgrade is QB. Personally, I'd like to see them make an "unsexy" pick of a stud C to settle that position for the rest of Josh's career--sorry Ryan Bates. Of course, that's just my thinking for today. -

Regardless of how they feel about Adams, I think you're right about bringing in at least one vet OT, as it appears Beane is making sure that he has filled all of the holes--including depth issues--on the roster before the draft so he can claim to go with the BPA. That's why they need to bring in a vet S too. This Bills' draft is going to be very interesting. They have a lot of areas where they need to improve their depth (OT being one), but if they truly believe they can make it to the Big Game, then they need to draft a couple people with the first two picks who will help this year. While they could definitely use a #1 edge rusher, I think anyone who will be there at 30 is going to have a lot of question marks, and may not contribute enough this year. If they want to go for it this year, I think they will target CB2, as there should be someone who can help right away (Newsome is my current R1 target). I also think they want a true big nickel candidate, as Neal does not really fit what McD wants, but I'm not sure there's someone at 30 (or later) who fits it (I like Moehrig a lot, but I'm not sure he's a big nickel)? Draft priorities in order: CB2, Edge (only if someone slips), Big Nickel Depth Draft needs: OT, LB, TE (I'd rank OT slightly above the other two) -

If his focus and goal is at C, this makes me wonder how Trey Adams is coming along (since they will need a swing OT)? -
My favorite name in the draft. I'd take him on that alone.

Yes, part of the 17 years of wandering in the wilderness. ugh.

@Virgil Chargers Packers Vikings Lions if available

Wonder how @FireChans feels about this addition to STs?
-
He was someone I wanted the Bills to draft at the time, instead they moved up to get Ragland. Shades of the McCargo draft...ugh!

Are we trading a pick? Or are you assuming they pick someone not on the list? Bills have 30, 61, and 93

He's got a pretty good track record too: https://steelersdepot.com/2020/04/looking-back-at-gil-brandts-2019-top-100-draft-prospect-rankings-7-year-success-rates/ Most interesting ranking for me is how he has LBs Werner and JOK the reverse of what most have. Wonder if JOK could be the big nickel McD wants?

Micah Parsons potential drop in draft

I don't know, it seems like being an a$$ and process compatible are mutually exclusive to me. -

Doesn't sound like a process guy. It'll be interesting to see if they Bills do their due diligence on him though. -
Not many will give up a 2022 R1. I've run the draft simulator a lot, and it gives the Bills a lot of options for trading back and picking up an R2 in 2022. Depending on who is available at 30, one of my strategies has been to move back and pick up assets to use for a move up in 2022. You still get a few good players this year, and you have the assets to move into the top 10 next year for that edge rusher. No idea what the pool looks like next year, but this year seems to be full of potential boom-bust types.

This makes Brown's comment all the more interesting....

The decision to keep 9 or 10 will depend on the overall quality of the roster. Right now it looks like 10. The most competitive groups currently are DL and WR. Don’t see any tough decisions elsewhere?
-
Yeah, that's why I put Josh in the mix. The dude is only going to get better too.
-
So, how does a guy like Foster go from 500+ yards his rookie year, then pretty much nothing after that...? I suppose it was a combination of Josh and a crap WR group.
-
They need someone as their return man, so I think they will find him in the draft.
-
It makes sense with the Bills O.

Sorry, I meant it as post-June 1 retirement, since the discussion was about possible retirement.
-
Yeah, it looks like the only option that saves them $ is a post-June 1 cut. I was trying to find details on Brees' restructure, but can't figure out how reducing his base this year saved them money. Doing the post-June cut does for sure. By hook or by crook, Beane will find a way to save $ on this, if he does retire...

I was off by a few days...

The way he's set up the other contracts, I'd guess Feliciano's cap hit this year will be under $5 mil easily.
