  1. Yeah, the first estimate of $3 mil was a guess, then I looked at the #s and saw it was closer to $2 mil. It will be interesting to see how the new contract impacts the Diggs cap this year!
  2. I think that was my point in the post you initially responded to. Spotrac currently shows $18 mil in cap space because they took down Diggs' current $17.9 mil cap hit. We won't know what they have currently until the contract details are made public and they still don't have Jones' contract up yet. My guess, was that they'd have about $7 mil (+/- a mil) after we know the details. Take out $2 mil for the top 2 draft picks, leaves about $5 mil to add a CB if they desire. All guesses at this point, until we know Diggs' contract. Interestingly, I was thinking yesterday that a Diggs extension just might happen soon because Beane needed to make room for the rookies, and it seemed to be the logical move at this point.
  3. @DrDawkinstein I don't believe your take is correct. The top 2 picks are the only ones that are projected to impact the cap that uses the top 51. They will count about $2 mil to the cap. They are not included yet because they are not signed. Prior to this extension they had about $200k, and Jones wasn't on the books yet.
  4. Because they took Diggs' current cap hit off until they know what the new contract looks like. I'd guess that they'd get to about $6-8 mil in cap space after the details are added for Diggs and Jones. They need about $3 mil for the top 2-3 draft picks.
  5. It's a 4-year extension, which makes the contract a total of 6 years, adding the existing 2. He's here for at least 4, and they will use it to lower this year's cap hit significantly.
  6. I'm sure Beane was just about to trade Diggs, but after Whaley's comment, he decided to extend him. At least that's how it happened in Twitter world.
  7. With the 79th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the LA Chargers select Quay Walker, LB, Georgia. The Chargers were looking at Spiller and Emerson as possible selections but, with both gone, they chose to select a more athletic MLB to pair with last year's R1 pick Murray. Overall assessment (added): For a team that is expected to compete with the Chiefs in the AFCW, the Chargers have some serious holes to fill. The right side of the OL is simply not good. OT Penning helps tremendously, though they will need to upgrade or add competition to RG. Other weaknesses on O include lack of adequate depth at WR, RB, and TE. On D, LB, and depth at boundary CB and IDL could be serious issues if injuries occur. At LB, Walker could help Murray reach his potential. Without a R2 pick, the Chargers still have some weaknesses that teams, in what may be the strongest division in the NFL, can exploit. Of course, having Mack and Bosa rushing the passer will make it a lot easier on the D... @mannc and the Houston Texans are now on the clock.
  8. There goes 1 of the 3 picks I have on my short list...
  9. Yeah, I made a pick from the golf course last year!
  10. If this was posted after midnight, it would've made sense.
  11. This is a very likely pick depending on how the WRs go.
  12. FYI, Olave went at 18.
  13. I was a little worried if he'd be there until we got to Philly's picks.
  14. With the 17th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the LA Chargers select Trevor Penning, OT, Northern Iowa. Protecting the franchise QB is priority #1, and Penning will immediately replace Storm Norton who ranked near last in pass-pro last year. Slater and Penning provide bookend protection for Herbert as the Chargers chase the Chiefs and Mr Lombardi. @H2o and the N'Orleans Saints are now on the clock...
  15. You can give me the Rams too if you'd like. Chargers don't have an R2 pick and Rams first and only pick is almost the last one in R3!
  16. Count me in! In no particular order... Chargers Raiders Packers
  17. Yeah, Anderson seemed like a good IOL prospect. Who was the other?
  18. This could be a year where Beane does a lot of wheeling and dealing to move around and match their few needs with value?
  19. If Bates leaves, I wonder if they'll focus their (currently) available cap $$ on signing a vet CB? They'd have $3.5-4 mil...?
  20. They have him under contract for 2 more years, it's not "looming". Win a Lombardi this year, then do what's necessary to maintain long-term viability to win a few more...
  21. I was at the Jacksonville game that year, and at one point said to my buddy, “looks like we have a franchise QB”. Point is, that game belongs on your list.
  22. Interestingly, he has G/C Johnson going with the next pick, then Hall and Burks with the next two picks.
  23. He's got Booth going at 31, so I don't see the Bills passing on him for a RB.
  24. This currently is speculation that the Giants will release him--he is not an UFA. The Gints are currently $343,000 under the cap, and they would save $10 mil by releasing him, but would also get hit with $11 mil in dead cap. Seems to me they would try to restructure some guys instead of releasing him.
  25. Makes up for none on Mancz!
