Good question. It comes down to poker. Who is doing what. If I could pry an extra first and second out of someone for moving back a spot or two I would consider it. If no one offered that I just draft Mahomes at 1.

McDermott himself said he is not flashy, he drives a pickup truck yesterday. That's fine. He started as a disciple of Jim Johnson in Philadelphia who loved to blitz QBs up the middle and that was exciting. McDermott's scheme has evolved into a zone, non-blitz setup. He hired Leslie Frazier to run our D and that makes sense. Frazier was Dick Jauron 2.0 whose defenses were so simple opposing QBs would call out the plays called by Frazier. I assume we will run a bend but don't break defense that takes away the big play. So if you enjoy that you're going to love McDermott.

I think McDermott looks like a young guy in the good old boy's club. Marrone, Mularkey, McDermott. You don't need to be a genius. If he gets elite talent his D will work, if he doesn't it will fail. Let's see if he marries Tyrod. If he does we will be looking for his replacement soon enough.

The problem with the McDermott hiring is the coach was hired by the owners and not the GM. If Whaley isn't trusted to bring in the coach, why is he trusted to bring in candidates or set up the draft board? Same lack of proper organizational structure. This is not how winning teams operate.

It sounds like you had a preconceived notion if you are judging QB accuracy when he had just thrown 58 mph and wanted to get over 60 mph. The fact that you think 4 mph is similar also betrays you don't understand what you are watching. The difference between 55 mph and 50 is worlds apart.

I would be happy to post a plan. I have shared in appropriate threads my opinion for making the team better, which we all want. So as to not hijack this thread but to answer your question I am an advocate for hiring a strong GM with a football vision. That vision is more than one year, it spans many years. That GM not only makes the final call in the draft room (something the Pegulas refuse to allow Whaley to do) but hires a coach of his choosing. This is the basic power structure of teams that win Superbowls such as the Steelers, Ravens, Seahawks, and Patriots. The last two examples have visionary coaches hiring the GM but the point is the same, Unity of Command. The Bills have suffered greatly by people making decisions on short time horizons, chaotic chains of command, and lack of overall long term vision.

What to watch for is Dennison. I really hope he doesn't switch our power man and zone run blocking up to do only zone run blocking. That would be a disaster.

I don't believe in ideas that don't explain events well. Last year's draft looked like Whaley was playing fetch for Rex, that he had given in to Rex's vision. I expect Whaley to do the same this year with McDermott. You and I can both be right.
