Amari Cooper, I like him more everyday (ESPN article)
sven233 replied to RochesterLifer's topic in The Stadium Wall
Honestly, what we need are 2 more Amri Coopers......just a decade younger. But that requires the GM to make significant investments through draft picks in the WR room after he just did it last season. And yes.....I realize he did this with Coleman last season, but Coleman has proven to be exactly what we thought he would be coming out of college.......a guy that can't separate consistently at the NFL level due to lack of explosiveness and speed that will make the occasional big play, especially off script, in contested ball situations. I find it very difficult to believe that he will ever be more than a low end WR2 or WR3-WR4 depending on how you want to use him out of the slot. I mean, I would love for him to develop more, and he is young (almost as young as Edmunds from what I can tell), but he is going to have to learn to win in different ways consistently because he will never be able to outrun or out-quick anyone. I wish the Bills would use him more on slants as that would help him create some separation by shielding defenders off, but we run about 2 slants a year and I guess that's our max. But, he needs much better footwork and needs to use his body and hands to create separation. He has a long ways to go in those departments. But hey, Allen had some of the worst mechanics I have ever seen coming out of college and he completely revamped basically everything from his footwork to his throwing motion through great coaching, science, and extremely hard work and dedication to his craft. Can Coleman do the same thing? Remains to be seen, but he has a long way to go as of now. But yeah, we need 2 game breakers at the WR position that don't mind sharing the ball, that work their tails off, and keep their mouths shut. Good luck finding them. -
Challenge them close to the LOS and make Nix beat you in Buffalo by throwing the ball down the field. Watching their offense, they love the screen game and I expect several of them early in this game, especially to get Nix settled it. The key is, don't ever let him feel settled. Play up close, jam the WRs and don't take your eyes off the RBs. This will help not only take away their screen game, but assist in stopping the run as well. I know it goes against McDermotts entire philosophy, but sometimes you have to let your CB and S positions do their job. You have to trust them to keep everything in front of them in some games, especially when you have a team like the Broncos that live primarily in the short to intermediate areas and like to beat teams through a thousand little paper cuts. Yes, the Broncos have talented WRs that can make plays and I am sure at some point they will. However, can they make enough big plays consistently to beat us in our stadium with the offense we have? Maybe....but I would have to see it to believe it. As for the offense, just be you. Honestly, watching these last few weeks of the season, it has become very obvious that we have put a lot of our repertoire on ice since the Lions game. The last time we saw this offense go all out and have everything on the table on offense was that game. Since then, they have scaled back a lot in what they have brought to the table to won games. Playoff Allen will be fully charged up and ready to go and I expect this offense to look a lot different than it has since that Lions game. If the defense can hold Denver to under 23-24 points or so, we should win this game. I do worry about this defense in the Playoffs, though. They have not had one postseason yet where they have great football. And honestly, I am not sure we have the defensive line to change that this season. But I maintain that we have the best football player on the planet playing for us and his will to win is unmatched. I trust that if the defense doesn't have a complete meltdown as they usually do at some point in the playoffs, that we have a chance to win.

Denver is a good team. They are kind of like the Bills in that they have some talented players, but nobody has really heard of too many of them yet. They are not going to be a pushover by any stretch of the imagination next week. I really expect a tougher game than many are predicting. They have a mobile QB which always seems to give us trouble. They have a solid ground game. They have some players that can make big plays in the passing game. And, most importantly, their play calling and play designs are very good as well. That said, they aren't perfect and we honestly should beat them, but the NFL is weird (I mean, just look at that last TD). We're going to have to play very good football to win. Also, with the way the Chiefs are playing and with the team they are fielding today, you would expect the Broncos in their situation to roll and they have. The Chiefs are not only resting their guys, but it's almost like they are flipping off the Bengals and their fans while they are doing it.

Glad he found a way to say "Screw You" on the way out by taking their first overall pick away.

Looking at that list of MVP candidates Jackson and Ravens fans should be counting their lucky stars Allen and the Bills didn't have anything to play for today. He has 4 more TDs than Allen does. If Allen was playing today, with the way this game has gone, Allen could have easily gone for 5+ if we needed this game. That is why you can't always look at stats when it comes to telling the whole story. Allen has sat out 2 full games of quarters this season and still put up the numbers he did with no pro bowl talent around him. He's easily the MVP and, quite honestly, should have been the MVP last year as well. There is nobody more VALUABLE to his team than Allen is to the Bills. -

He is who he was on tape in college. Can make the occasional spectacular play, but for the most part will be tightly covered because he doesn't have the speed or quickness to separate. For as big as he is, he doesn't use his size enough to create separation either. If he can't out-jump someone at the catch point, he's just limited as to what he can be, especially in the NFL. To me, he's WR4. Shakir is WR3 (just because of him being primarily a slot). Hollins is the perfect WR5. We still need a true WR1 and probably a WR2. I just don't think Coleman will be able to develop into a consistent enough WR to be a WR2. I hope I'm wrong, but sometimes you are just limited because of physical abilities. He's a nice weapon to have around because of the skill set he does have, but I want 2 explosive weapons on the outside for Allen to throw to. Those guys aren't here yet. -

Was thinking the same thing. But I don't think so. That's what a contract is for. I guess there may be a way to amend it, but I'm not sure. Just glad he got it fast and can sit down. We need that guy to find the fountain of youth for the next 5-6 weeks. -

I think that whenever someone mentions a team trying to lose on purpose, they are talking about the organization as a whole......specifically the front office. No player is going to play this game trying to lose. Why would players, especially at the bottom of the roster whose position these new high draft picks are going to be coming for, want to lose on purpose? No....it is the responsibility of the GM to make sure the game day roster is put in the best position to achieve the vision of the organization with the guys that are playing actively trying to win. The interesting part in their case is the coaching staff. If they are on thin ice and know they aren't likely to come back, they may be super aggressive and do everything they can to win. However, in some cases if a staff knows they are safe, they may toe the company line and punt from the offensive 35 on 4th and a foot. They could be a wild card tomorrow. But yeah....the players that are playing are definitely going to do everything they can to win. The front office can make decisions going into the game that make that much more difficult.

Power rankings mean nothing at this point. It's all about what happens in the Playoffs. As Bills fans with Josh Allen at QB, this is how it should be until we win a Super Bowl. Doesn't matter if people think we are the best team in Week 3 or Week 18 heading into the Playoffs. It's making sure we win the last game before the offseason that matters. Sure, the season is fun and all, but until we get this monkey off our back and win one, I will never pay attention to power rankings. Do I think we can win the Super Bowl this season? Yes, but it will take an absolutely perfect run and our best football because there are more talented teams. But I will forever believe we have the best QB on the planet and that he can overcome some of that lack of talent. But, it's going to take every player on offense, and especially defense, to play their best football in the postseason. It will also take the head coach and his staff finally making the correct decisions in crucial moments to win as well.

If Mike White plays, he is going to show better that Trubisky has in his limited action and there will be calls for him to be the backup. No doubt in my mind that I would rather have White backing up Allen than Trubisky. He didn't win when we played him and Milano almost broke him in half, but he earned my respect that day.

12/29/24 GAMEDAY Week 17 Bills vs Jets Post Game Thread
sven233 replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Happens all the time. When I was younger, I had a pretty good arm. Not college or pro level by any means, but I could toss the ball about 60 yards. It literally took a running start and everything I had to get the ball out that far. I watch Allen, and I just can't figure out how he does what he does. I mean, there are so many times, during just about every game, that Allen will uncork a ball that goes 40-50 yards in the air and it looks like he just flicks his wrist to do it. It's so effortless and not only does the ball travel that far, but it does so on a freaking line. And even on the short ones, the ball just screams out of his hand and gets out there so fast. I know pro QBs all have superior arm talent in some way shape or form. You don't get to the NFL without it. But you watch these other QBs throw an out and then you watch Allen throw an out and it is just different. I will never get tired of watching our guy throw a football. Crazy stuff. -

I haven't watched the All 22 yet, but I thought watching Milano yesterday that he got better as the game went along and it was noticeable. I thought early in the game he was playing pretty much how he has been since coming back.....a little slow to process and a step slow to react. However, I thought as the game went along yesterday, he seemed to be better. Looked like he was firing a little quicker and was out of place much less. Again, I haven't watched the film yet to confirm this assessment, but I came away encouraged by the end of the game. Now, is that just because the Jets phoned it in when the game got out of hand? Maybe. I hope not, though.
