Maybe the best course of action in those cases would be to transfer GM duties of those teams for the remainder of the draft - if we have people willing to take them. Stuff happens in life and no need for hard feelings, but we should keep things moving if possible. It’s already a lot of work for Virgil so I defer to him on what’s easiest/preferable.

Yup. I’ll add that it is worth noting what KC had on offense when Mahomes was drafted. The OL included Eric Fisher, Mitch Morse, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and Mitchell Schwartz. Offensive skill position players included Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. Since Mahomes was drafted the Chefs have had 18 picks in the first three rounds. 12 defensive and 6 offensive players were taken. Some thoughts on this: - The defense had some studs, but was more in need of upgrades at the time. - QB, WR1, LT, C, RT and a stud TE were all under contract. Other than WR2/3 there were not a lot of glaring needs that would require high picks. - Why neglect to u clyde what KC spent to get Mahomes, who obviously is an offensive player? Two firsts and a third. That would make it 12 D to 9 O. Still slanted toward D, but not by as much.

With the 74th pick of the 2023 NFL Draft the Cleveland Browns select Felix Anudike-Uzomah, DE Kansas State. Pleased to see FAU here in at 74. The Browns have some needs and help at Edge is one of them. FAU has great bend and can pressure QBs - and that's the name f the game these days. Hopefully he can be an effective DE3 this year and grow from there.

In general I’m good with having a player like that on the roster, but as more of a role player. Someone to shore up the run game when we are seeing a lot of it due to the opponent’s style, poor weather or when we’re down late and our opponent is trying to close out the game. Roster space has to be considered though. The Bills typically keep 5 DTs on the roster and currently have the following eight under contract for this season: Jones, Phillips, Oliver, Settle, Ankou, Vickers, Bryant and Broughton. I don’t see five DTs there that I love. Adding one that could be paired with Jones to stop the run when needed would be welcome.

The extra muscle mass should help him with body injuries, but with him it’ll be more about protecting his brain. This certainly can’t hurt. But we really should call in an expert and get @GunnerBill ‘s thoughts.

Lol. Historically the Ravens have been very well run, though amorally. But there’s no sugar coating their moves of late. Lamar, OBJ, Roquan Smith, etc. I’m not really sure what they are doing these days.

My bet is that the Ravens don’t have time for a WR to develop. They need someone who can contribute this season and they need someone who can help entice Lamar to show up to training camp. Also they needed to do something that at least looks like they helped their WR corps.

It does not incentivize Lamar to work out a long term deal. It only incentivizes him to play on the tag this year. I’d argue that overspending on OBJ for 1 year instead of using that cap space to acquire a longer term solution at WR actually de-incentivizes Lamar from signing long term.

To me it feels like the Ravens got stupid looking for some good PR. And they were looking for a way to make Lamar a bit happier about playing on the tag this season. That’s all I got. On OBJ’s side it is easy to see. No other team was going to come close to handing out that contract. $15M guaranteed is ridiculous for where he is now.

I hope people are getting close to putting to bed the idea that the ravens are still a very well run and managed organization. This was a huge overpay on their part and reeks of panic. OBJ took the money, which was smart. when a player at the end of his career finds a team willing to get stupid like that. It’s almost always a good idea to let them.

Base salaries have a minimum amount based on the player’s number of accrued seasons. That’s the only rule regarding how big or small they can be. OBJ’s salary is exactly the min for a player with the number of years he’s played in the league. A signing bonus can be any amount. It gets prorated evenly over the course of the player’s contract - up to five seasons. The Ravens are using void years (probably 4) to kick most of OBJ’s cap hit into next season. I believe it’s even possible to kick some into 2025 if they cut him using a post June 1st designation before the years officially void.

I think that Beane & McDermott may be feeling enough pressure that the long term isn’t that important to them. A playmaker needs to be brought in on offense and they’re looking at Hopkins. I agree that there are real risks with him. i’m just reading the situation right now, not necessarily advocating for him. I get why they’d do it, but it is a big risk. As for DHop’s contract, bringing him here would require a new deal as well as creating some additional cap space. An Ed Oliver trade would be likely.

AZ is just dragging this all out to try to maximize the return on DHop. Right now it doesn’t hurt them to maintain a high asking price. As I’ve said before, the week prior to the draft is likely when he’ll be moved. Mid-May is the latest for him to be traded or cut. I didn’t say anything about the Bills threatening or intimidating the Cards. This is just Beane doing his due diligence and exploring his best options. Letting it be known via leaks that the Bills are exploring other options to improve their WR room is just gamesmanship.
