Bills @ Steelers - Preseason Game 2 - Sat 8/17 7PM

We had 1 player in the NFL top 100 on one ranking. We had 2 on the player rankings (Dawkins was 95 or something). With 32 teams, each team should, in theory, have 3 (plus) players. A team that perennially is near the top of the league should have more than just their QB as top 100 players. The Chiefs, Dolphins and 49ers have like 6 or 7 guys each. We have Josh. -

Yeah, it has been better today. Watching this though shouldn’t leave anyone feeling good. We have had some back of the roster guys flash (Andresson, Solomon) and Rousseau dominate. He is the only one that will play a prominent role that has really been excellent. -

If you’ve been paying attention, it isn’t this game. I’ve been concerned about the talent for a while. I’ve been a vocal skeptic of the Coleman pick because he doesn’t separate. The WRs are bad. The OL has been better tonight and the defense has had some guys flash. We will see if that translates vs. a NFL offense with a real QB. -

Hot take?!? Lol, are we following different teams? This roster is not good. The QB is elite. They have a lack of depth, bad skill players, questions at the LOS, lousy special teams and average coaching. Sorry if that hurts.. -

lol, seriously? This is a bad roster. If you remove Josh Allen, what do you think the record is? I will say 5-12 is the ceiling without him. Before you say, “what is KC’s record without Mahomes” it’s probably 9-8 or better. They have some elite players and a top of the coaching staff. -

The Bills haven’t been loaded with high end talent. They have had an elite QB, some really good players (Diggs, Poyer, Hyde, Tre, Milano, Dawkins, Taron, and a few others) plus fantastic depth. Now they have lost the good players & the depth has been elevated leaving them thin. Without Josh Allen this team would pick in the top 5. Sorry if that hurts but it’s reality. This is a bad roster . -

Welp, this team is going as far as Josh can carry them. -
This is certainly possible. This Bills team lacks talent. It’s the worst roster since Josh’s rookie season. With that being said, prime Josh Allen is probably good for 8 wins by himself.
-
I think that’s reasonable. I think that they still make the playoffs because of Josh Allen. 10-7 is about where I have them. They have a shot at the division still imo.
-
Is that how you’re reading that? Huh, I’m reading it as, “their production was fine for a 3rd or 4th option but will not cut it as lead options. They are going to have to take a step forward.” Obviously the gross numbers will increase for both as volume increases. It’s also beyond reasonable to expect Shakir’s efficiency to drop with that increase in volume. The question is where does the volume/efficiency land?
-
No, but he went late. I think there was an injury in there
-
Was a big fan of him at Clemson. Since that time he has 9 more NFL catches than I do. We have the same number of targets since Covid became a thing. We probably shouldn’t count on this guy. There is (or at least was) some talent though.
-
Lol, no it’s not. Hollins is a scrub. Coleman is a high ceiling, low floor guy. Samuel is a nice playmaker. Shakir should continue to improve. His ceiling is the question. The revisionist history here is wild. Last year’s group was okay. This year’s group is one of the worst in the NFL. The Bills know that. That’s why they continue buying lottery tickets. They’re in panic mode now. That’s why they signed Byrd, brought in Davis, etc.. It doesn’t make you any less of a fan to admit that the WRs aren’t good. Josh Allen covers lots of holes on this team. He will do his best to cover for them. At some point, the Bills owe it to Josh to prioritize talent around him. The allocation of assets around him has been crazy. The Bills ask him to cover holes instead of having him turbocharge elite players. Diggs was the exception. Kincaid has high end ability. Otherwise, it’s Allen and a bunch of guys.
-
For sure. A division rival just traded away their best player. That’s kind of insane.
-
I don’t think Elbo Room is where you watch the game. My buddy that lives there watches somewhere else (at least I’m pretty sure). It’s absolutely where everyone parties leading up to the Bills/Phins games.

This was something thati wanted the Bills to consider. They would have had to overpay so it was never likely. I don’t think I would have given a 2 and it would have been at least that. Either way:
-
That’s all fair I don’t think a reasonable argument can be made that they’re better. Regardless of how we feel about Diggs, he was with the Bills for 4 seasons. He had the 4 highest catch totals, the two highest yardage seasons (4 of the top 12), and 2 of the top 3 TD seasons. No one that they have is coming closer to replicating even the worst of those seasons. It’s reasonable to think that Shakir takes a step forward. What does that look like? If you’re optimistic you can say, Coleman will replace Gabe (45/746/7). Samuel is an upgrade on Harty. They are worse for sure. They are bottom 3 now. They COULD maybe move up to like 22 if things go well. That’s about the ceiling for this group. They could be 32. One move though, and that ceiling is in the top 10. That’s the beauty of it. They have enough bodies and varied skill sets. As a total hypothetical, if the Bills traded the Vikings 2 & their own 3 to Dallas for Lamb (would still probably have a 1,2,4,4,4) they would be dangerous. That pushes everyone into a role that they are more suited for. I obviously know that’s a long shot but that’s the glaring hole right now.
-
Fair question The Bills absolutely had to either trade for a vet at the top of the depth chart (Ayiuk, Adams, Lamb, etc..), trade up for a top 3 guy (MHJ, Nabers, Odunze) or take 2 of the next 7 (I wouldn’t have had Coleman in that group). Those were the options and in that order for me. Samuel/Shakir/Worthy/Baker or something like that would have been acceptable. My issue is, and has been, that they didn’t address the top of the depth chart. The rest of the group is okay for their roles. I think it’s reasonable to believe that Shakir/Samuel/Coleman are top 75 WRs. The problem is, they might not have a guy that’s top 50. That’s a problem. In terms of moving the goal posts, Coleman was the 8th WR drafted. They traded down twice. That’s not moving anything; that’s what happened. FWIW, he wasn’t in my top 10. This isn’t altering a narrative. Shakir was really efficient. He had the 136th most targets in football last year!! There are 32 teams. 136/32=4.25. He would have been somewhere between the 4th & 5th most targeted player on every team. We are now asking him to be a number 1(ish). Will it translate? Maybe? Should you count on that? Of course not. Samuel is a gadget guy because that’s who he’s always been!! That’s not a knock. Deebo is a gadget guy. Samuel will catch screens, run routes, take handoffs and maybe return some kicks. He’s a great guy to have on your team. He’s not a tradtional boundary WR. Hope that clears up your confusion…
-
That’s such a weak answer. Everyone that says, “we won’t know” is code for “they suck right now but I don’t want to admit it.” It’s okay. We are a bottom 3 group today. The question isn’t where “they could possibly be.” It is “where are they today?” They aren’t good. As an Ohio State fan, I have ALWAYS loved Curtis Samuel. I loved him from his recruiting story to this day. He isn’t a boundary WR. He’s a weapon. People didn’t like when I said that at his signing but it is true. The Bills have said as much. We are sitting here today with Mack Hollins as a lock!! That guy isn’t a guy that plays offense on a championship team. We have WR 3’s as 2’s, 2’s/3’s are 1’s and we are thin behind the top 3. It is a bad group. And another “shocker”
