Michael Lombardi hints Dareus to the Patriots
Kirby Jackson replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’d rather a high upside, low floor guy didn’t end up in New England. They just did it with the QB. I’m fine when they add Hogan, Chandler or Gillislee because there is only so much impact that they can make. They are average talents that could easily be replaced by other average talents. Cam and Dareus are not that. It’s best if he doesn’t end up there. -
Free Agent or Trade? One more baby!

This is the kind of thing that I was thinking. We have 2 5ths and 2 7ths next year at this point (no 4th). Maybe a 5th and 7th that can become a 6th? I would also consider one of those vet safeties potentially to compete for a roster position. If Poyer or Hyde goes down it would be nice to at least have that option. I think Jaquan Johnson will be the guy and Marlowe is okay too. I just like the idea of a really experienced vet back there in McDermott’s system. Reid, Jefferson and Jones are all still out there I believe. -
Ranking Offensive Weapons by team

Carolina at least has some elite weapons. McCaffrey is the best weapon in the league and DJ Moore is coming off almost 1,200 yards with Kyle Allen at QB. He’s a legit number 1. Robby Anderson is a nice #2 and Samuel is incredibly explosive. It’s not the deepest group beyond them but the top is strong. I don’t take much issue with their ranking. They belong in the top 10 somewhere anyways. I agree though that a list like this will always be polarizing because it’s all opinion. -
I don’t see it getting to that point. Washington was a bit of an extreme. The Atlanta Braves aren’t changing their name as an example. If they do, so be it. I have a lot of stuff that will be obsolete (including the shirt that I have on now). As long as the “Buffalo” part doesn’t change I’ll manage. I don’t think that it’ll happen though.

Ranking Offensive Weapons by team

Counter: Engram has started 25 games in 3 years. He can’t stay healthy. Tate and Sheppard started 10 a piece and Slayton put up decent numbers because he was the only guy in the lineup worth $.10. The Cardinals, Lions and Chargers all belong ahead of them imo. They all clearly have a better top to the receiving depth chart (which is most important according to Barnwell). Their #2 WR is better in (or at least equal) in all cases. They have good backs (not as good as Saquon) but good. The Giants don’t belong in the top half of the league IMO. -

8 feels about right but 7 for the Giants feels asinine to me. That one jumped out at me (and I’m a big Saquon fan). -
I don’t think that they want to have to deal with Dawkins and Milano after the year. Maybe one of them but not both. They can always use a tag if need be on one of them. The Tre contract has to come after this season too as you said. That’s going to be massive. I feel like 4 years and $60M for Dawkins would be numbers that both sides would be comfortable with.

ESPN+: Top 10 WRs according to league personnel

Sammy still has moments when he dominates. He’s SO physically gifted but he’s missing something. I’m not sure if it is heart, mind or both? If he had like 8 catches for 160 and 2 TDs I wouldn’t even blink. If he had a 1,600 yard season I’d shrug. The ability is CLEARLY there but something is missing and has been. -

Without being too much of a homer I agree 100%. Thielen is a nice player. He’s in the Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp, Juju, Lockett tier IMO. They are good players but don’t keep coordinators up at night. Diggs’ combination of route running and explosiveness put him in a tier above. He’s considered by many as the best route runner in the league. He has elite hands and is tough in traffic. He’s been a bit of a malcontent but his skill set is elite. -

See I like Evans but think he plays in the perfect system. He’s big, fast and physical and they chuck it all over the field. Say what you want about Jameis but he did throw for 5,100 yards last year. It’s not like that doesn’t help those 2 receivers. I’m not sure how much more we can expect? Julio is clearly in the top 3 for me. A healthy Julio has the best tools IMO. -

Love the DJ Moore inclusion. He should be in consideration. Is it weird to think that his elite trait is consistency? Allen just feels so reliable. That’s my Cooper issue. -

Honestly, I thought he was the best player in football right before he lost his mind. -

I’d have Cooper lower. I just think he’s overrated. Diggs or Golladay would be there for me. I think I’d probably go with Golladay. -

I don’t know the guy but sounds like he has a pretty good resume. It looks like he’s filling Dave Wheat’s role basically. I’ve been pretty adamant that the Pegula’s are not high end sports business minds. They had been surrounded by some early in their tenure but those people are now gone. It’s important to start to fill those roles with capable people. This feels like a step in the right direction. -

The Patriots will inevitably use “Maine” instead of “Mississippi” to gain that “competitive edge.” -
