  1. Love Steven Colberts' "Superb Owl XLVIII" logo... lampooning the NFL's trademark and liscencing restrictions on using the NFL logo, or the term "Super Bowl".
  2. Maybe he plans on nosing into teammates contract negotiations? When all is said and done, who knows how his career will shake out with the Bills, but its' hard not to like him. Whether he beliecves all the PR stuff he is saying in the interview, he is smart enough to know to say it.
  3. The way my knees feel today, 48 is the new 68!
  4. Ah...Bluefire is just giving me ****....cuz he is a techo-baby! He's a good kid! I doubt he even listened to it! Don't know if you are familiar with Kelly Willis. She was a "near miss" in the early 90's from the Nasvile scene (via Virginia). She was really young at the time, and just hated what she was doing....even though, to my ears, she put out three pretty great "country-pop" albums at the time. She took a few years away from the business, and emerged as an indie country artist, on RykoDisc, passing on the Nashville thing all together. For me, she is one of the greatest modern country singers...and she just happened to marry my buddy Bruce...a really talented songwriter. They put out a great duet album this past year "Cheaters' Game". It was named by Rolling Stone magazine as one the "Top 25 Albums You Didn't Hear in 2013". They have 4 growing kids now, but have been hitting the road pretty hard, with another album to come out around April. I know you are a big John Hiatt fan, as am I. Kelly (back in her Nashville years) did "Drive South" on the "Thelma & Louise" soundtrack. I think she is a better singer now, and doing better material (she writes more of her own stuff, and has excellent taste in covers)... a real favorite of mine. She did an episode of Hiatt's old "Sessions" show, probably around 1998..when she kind of returned to the biz...I think they did a song or two together on the broadcast (my memory is bad!)...will have to sniff around youtube a little more! Would definitley recommend "Cheater's Game"....my favorite record of 2013. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l04OTz5jmls
  5. If you assume we are trying to make the playoffs, and not simply in year two of a multi-year re-build, I would think all 4 of those positions (WR, TE, OG and QB backup) would be more effectively addressed via free agency. WR, TE, specifically, more often than not, take two seasons or so to reach their potential. You might be able to pick up some decent depth on the O-line, via the draft...but if you want to give your franchise QB every chance to succeed, eperienced depth on the line would seem prudent. And, backup QB, is a free-agent no brainer... if not, if they go with a drafted QB, they are really no more solid at the position than they were this past season. I am cool with Thaddeus Lewis as one of our three guys, it will be interesting to see what happens with Tuel. As for TE, I am still kind of curious to see if Chris Gragg has some use in the future. He didn't play a lot, but toward the end of the season, I think he showed some potential.
  6. Exactly. Actually looking forward to the game (I have always kind of liked Denver, and loathe the Seahawks since Carroll has been there), and I think it will be a really good game...but I have listened to/watched very little of the build-up hype, and probably won't until about an hour before kick-off. Got the next day off!
  7. As long as we get more Schwarzenegger playing ping-pong, those hideous Old Spice commercials, and Tony Siragusa male Depends ads, I am cool...it is all about the ads after-all!
  8. Fair enough. I guess I am just wondering exactly Jackson said that the OP, and others after, seem to think was some sort of swipe at the Bills. These "we been disrespected" threads never cease to boggle my mind...
  9. If that is the case (not sure what they would have based this on), why on earth would they have re-signed him to a contract, if one coaching staff was convinced he couldn't play? Not necessarily saying you are wrong, but that would only give more credence to the notion that this was a pretty big screw up on the Bills part...all I can figure, Jackson was Buddy's guy, and Whaley was thinking he couldn't play. I will give you the Kolb over TJax thing...though I would have much preferred Jackson to Kolb. Kolb has never impressed me in the slightest. And, sight unseen, before he ever played a down, you would have rather had the Bills playoff hopes resting in the hands of Thaddeus Lewis than Jackson? Really? Thads' one NFL start in a meaningless "run for the bus" loss the previous year, to Jacksons 34 NFL starts? You must be related, or a big Duke football fan. I really like Lewis, don't get me wrong, but nobody really knew what we had in him, before that first start that he had. The Bills didn't even really know.
  10. I think this (another) one of those cases of Bills fans being a little thin skinned....unless he said something really different than what is posted in the article on the front page, he really didn't say anything slamming the city of Buffalo, or his ex "teammates"...not even in the slightest. If he said he wanted to forget his time in Buffalo, who could blame him? You can't blame a guy for seeing things from his own perspective, rather than that of the fans of his estranged team whom, apparently, put his NFL career on hold, for no reason that was beneficial to anyone. Before you comment that "he still got paid", realize, he very likely would have signed with another team (didn't take Seattle long to bring him back once he was available: released by Bills June 10, re-singed by Seahawks June 13) for something comparable. Traded from a team a team on the upswing, where he was once a starter, to a team where he was paid to stay away, not practice, and do not able to contribute with his football (as minimal as some seem to think they are). Then, the team turns around, offers him a new contract, and assures him that he is very much a part of their future plans...only to be released a month before training camp. I like Thaddeus Lewis and all, but who wouldn't have felt better, before Lewis was thrust into action, (or Jeff Tuel for that matter) if Tarvaris Jackson hadn't been the backup for EJ Manuel? Apparently the Bills felt that Kevin Kolb was so outstanding (based on what?) in OTA's that Jackson was expendable, before ever taking a single snap in a Buffalo BIlls uniform, in an actual game, pre-season or otherwise.
  11. The only question I have is why he agreed to re-sign with the Bills. The whole episode was odd. The only question I have is why he agreed to re-sign with the Bills. The whole episode was odd.
  12. HOF? Guess we find out Saturday!
  13. Linky no worky! I am guessing?
  14. He is not cheap, he is just prideful, arrogant and stupid. We have a winner! Funny, the local morning sports guy here (in Austin, TX- Cowboys country) was railing on JJ this moring for this whole thing...he named Dallas and Oakland (along with Cleveland, Detroit and Buffalo) as NFL graveyards! Now, I obviously take a little exception to that, but I kind of expect it at this point...but lumping Dallas in ther with what are percieved to be the worst franchises in the league is pretty eye-opening.
  15. Well...pizza is a natural aphrodisiac!
  16. The Cuomo quotes are completely taken out of context of a discussion...I thought taking things out of context and blowing them out of proportion was supposed to be the job of the "liberal media".
  17. Nice call...Hayes Carll is terrific. Gotta say, I don't really like this topic, because, I find, perhaps like rap, people tend to stereotype country a bit too much, and it is hard to get people to see past those notions. I like all kinds of music, including country. Now, what people refer to as country (Little Big Town, Shania, etc etc all mentioned here) is as far what I think of as real country music as Daft Punk. I know, whenever this topic comes up, it is impossible not to come off elitist, or, "I know better than you". I have found, over the years, I love music too much, and I appreciate people who have the same love of music, even if their tastes aren't the same as mine. There was a time when Ernest Tubb was consdered a "rebel" (Ernest freaking' Tubb of all people) because he dared to include a drummer in his band, when he was invited to play the Grand Old Opry. Patsy Cline was considered "trash" by country purists in her day, because her Owen Bradley productions were "too slick" for the rural roots of country music. They called her brand of country, "Countrypolitian", and it wasn't meant as a compliment. Of course, now, these artists are considered some of the true greats. Tubb gave country just a tad of rock'n'roll with his Texas style honky-tonk, and Patsy helped to bridge the gap between "hillbilly music", and make it more palatable to city people...it is only natural, things progress, there are more and more influences in every genre of music. Now, this is going to sound silly...but for me, what makes country music special, is that it is the one genre where honesty, or sincerity aren't considered "uncool", or corny. Sure, it can be overdone, the double entrendre's and play on words can be silly (heard a great Christmas song this year "Jesus is the Reason for the Season, But I'm the Reason She's Leaving". Country music, even the mainstream stuff (which I generally can't stand), embraces poetry like no other genre. And when it is done right, there is a universal message to it...not everyone can pull it off, but when they do, it can be pretty powerful. Just listen to this...and nary a mention of Jesus..
  18. Just got my daily email from "Football Guys"...it is mostly just stuff concering the Browns caoching staff...Dowell Loggins (former Titans OC) is in play in Cleveland, and Cam Cameron was approached but says he is staying put at LSU. Also speculation that Pettine might go after Bill Callahan from the Cowboys. Perhaps of more interest to Bills fans, says that Pettine is interested in Don "Wink" Martindale as their DC "should the Bills deny their request" for Jim O'Neill. Martindale is the current Ravens LB coach, and served as the Broncos DC, until he was fired in favor of Jack Del Rio.
  19. It went on a little too long, but I will admit I enjouyed it...Deion with the vocal tuner cracked me up the most.
  20. Saw the Furs not long ago...they still put on a great show...\ Check your PM...
  21. Big fan of "Boardwalk Empire" as well...the first season, which I liked, moves much slower than the rest....so you are really in for a treat...great show...
  22. Kim is front for the band the Muffs...great band. A buddy of mine plays with them...been a big fan since before he joined them...chick rockers, I love em! From what I hear, she was pretty shocked/depressed about getting booted... she didn't see it coming, and everyone was really nice to her the whole time. I guess she is the Chuck Driesbach of bass players!
  23. All good shows...you have something to look forward to.
