Titans Hire Ken Whisenhunt as New Head Coach
Buftex replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wonder what happened with Whisenhunt to Detroit. It was being reported as all but a done deal before today. Something must have gone down, cuz on paper, Detroit is a much better situation to go to than Tennessee, in my opinion. Hmmm... sounds like Frank Reich is the favorite to replace Whisenhunt as OC in San Diego. -
Yeah, I don' think I have watched a pre-game show in about 3 or 4 years...I usually watch one highlight show each Sunday or Monday, but that is about it. I was so excited when Time Warner finally got the NFL Network at the begining of the 2012 season...but I can't stand it...only thing I watch is older stuff (Football Life, NFL Films stuff, classic games)....it is all just so repetitive and nonsensical. Sometimes, less is more.

I gotta say, coverage of these match-ups, and personalitues will always reach the saturation point for most of us...I find myself enjoying the games a lot more if I pay less attention to ESPN and NFL Network, etc etc...there is very little news value to their programming...we get burned out on guys like Manning and Brady...don't let the coverage turn you off from watching and enjoying some of the very greatest players from this era...in the "good old days" we were starved for football coverage, now we are stuffed with it.

I have heard it mentioned a few times this season, Reich is being credited heavily for Phillip Rivers return from oblivian.

Nice...always wished Frank had become a part of the Bills coaching staff... http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/2013/story/_/id/10282229/san-diego-chargers-target-frank-reich-offensive-coordinator-void-appears

Jairus Byrd is NO Earl Thomas
Buftex replied to Doug Flutie Band's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If those stats are accurate (I have no reason to think they are not, and too lazy to look myself) that is pretty damn impressive....Byrd isn't the hitter that the other two guys are...but nowadays, all that does is get you a flag...turnovers are huge! I will admit, I am one who is in the "let him fly if he doesn't want to be here....don't overpay him" camp..but those are impressive numbers. -
Thanks for recognizing this. Harbaugh is both a sore loser and a sore winner. Can't stand the guy. Strangely, I don't mind his brother so much...maybe I am getting old, but I think Harbaughs' antics are embarassing. I liked him, somewhat, as a player, but he is such a blue-blood little prick...I don't like Pete Carroll for many of the same reasons...I don't want which of them I can't stand more. I know I would pull for Denver in a heartbeat over the other 3 teams...but I think I respect Brady and Bellechik (didn't say like) more than the NFC representatives.

Eh...we just live in very negative times. Our hate for other teams far exceeds our like of any others...it is just kind of like that...remember, back when the Bills were annually losing Super Bowls, there was a huge back-lash against them, because people were just sick of seeing them and hearing about them... For me, I hate the Pats (for all the obvious reasons), and I despise Jim Harbaugh (is there a more classless jerk HC in the NFL?) and Pete Carroll (is there a more classless jerk HC in the NFL), so the Broncos are the only team left to root for. I have a hard time hating Manning...

Thanks for the update! -
You must forgive him...it's the uticaclub talking...

Kiko did pretty well, but the middle positon kind of neutralizes his speed to a degree... as well as he played, he got caught out of postion numerous times over the last season, and big runs were given up through the middle.

I remember that day... I had to work, so couldn't watch the game live. It was before DVR...so I had the old VCR rolling, couldn't wait to get off work to watch it...I was the boss, so everybody was under orders to keep their mouths shut about the game...I had big plans... a case of good beer, making chicken wings...I was so pumped. Then, just as I am leaving, this, uh developmentally challanged guy who was working for us, comes in for his evening shift and says "Hey man, congrats on your Bills" and high-fives me. I couldn't get mad at him (visibly), but inside I was seething... I couldn't believe I had gotten through the whole day avoiding the score, just to have it blown on my way out the door... it really took the wind out of my sailes...but "hell" I thought "at least we won...it would be much worse if we lost, to know ahead of time". So, I get home, was pretty tired from a long day...I figured, what the hell, I already know the Bills won, I'll just take a nap for a couple hours, get up, and enjoy the victory... I get up after taking a slightly longer nap than I had intended...no work the next day..cool...still gonna drink some brews, cook up some wings, and watch the Bills kick some ass... By the time I sit down to watch the game, it is about 10:30pm....I see my answering machine is blinking away, with 6 messages...I am going to ignore them til the game is over...I know the Bills won, but I have no idea the score, or how they won...so there is still some intrigue... I am watching, getting buzzed, feeling good, cuz no matter how things may look, I know, "nobody circles the wagons..." Rob Johnson leads them down the field for the winning field goal, or so I thought...then, that abomination of a play happens...the forward lateral...I remember seeing Wade Phillips with that skeptical smile...he seemed sure it was an illeagal play, I know the Bills won, so I am not sweating it,.but the game was a little too close for comfort..I had convinced myself that the Bills defense was taking them to Super Bowl #5 (this time we're serious!), no whoop! Let them review it, take their time...we won! So as they are reviewing, I figure, safe to check my messages...first message, my brother with a "WTF!!! Wade Phillips needs to get his ass canned...it should have never come down to this...if Flutie was in there it would have been much different". That is my brother for ya...can't be happy even when they win...next message, my buddy Mitch "wow...what a way to lose...sorry about your Bills" Just then, I start hearing the the Tennessee fans going ape-****...the Bills lost...how the !@#$ did that happen? I swore, and I swore loud....my girlfriend yells from the bedroom "what's wrong? You knew they lost, didn't you?" Needless to say, watching the whole game, "knowing" that the Bills won the game, only to find out I had beem mis-informed, made it one of the cruelist Bills losses in my 42 year history (at that time 28 years) with the Bills.... It was one of my most gr

What is your second favorite NFL team?

Some say the NBA! -
Not an Andy Dalton basher, but his erratic play was their biggest obstacle all year. I don't put that on Gruden at all.

What is your second favorite NFL team?
Buftex replied to BuffalothruMyVeins's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't necessarily have a second favorite team, but I do enjoy watching certain players...I think, non-Bills, John Elway and Brett Favre have provided me with some pretty great football memories. I always kind of thought of the Broncos as my second favorite team, always pulled for them when they got clobbered in the Super Bowl...but it is really just Elway I liked. When Josh McDaniel coached the team, I hated them... I also have an affinity (though won't necessarily call them my second favorite team) for tough luck teams like the Bills, such as Cleveland and Cincinnati. Similar kinds of cities to Buffalo, similar kinds of fans, who, unfortuanately for them, were born in the blood of some terrible franchises. The Bengals were my team going into the playoffs this year...but now, pulling for the Panthers most (I like Cam), but would be fine with any other teams winning the whole thing, unless they reside in Foxboro, or are coached by ultra-douche bag coaches Jim Harbaugh or Pete Carroll. I sometimes think my dislike of other teams is much stronger than my like for any other teams. Bills all the way.... -
What is funny, during the final weeks of the season, when Shannahan's firing was considered a sure thing, there were rumors that Snyder wanted to fire Kyle Shannahan and Haslett, and retain Mike Shanahann. Curious as to wether Gruden chose to retain these guys, or they were forced on him..if it is the latter, it might not be a good thing for him. Personally, I think it is not a bad hire for Washington. Jay Gruden may only be John's brother, but he has been around the game, in many facets, just as long..he will have something to prove. I think the did a pretty great job with Cincinnati...and Washington, while not as loaded as Cincy offensively, has some decent pieces in place. They need another receiver or two...but they have a talented TE (Jordan Reed) and a good running game...and Kirk Cousins, in my book, is no slouch, should RGIII not bounce back. I think he will.

Sabres Announce 11:30 AM Press Conference: Murray New GM
Buftex replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Will be interesting to see what happens now. Can't say that I have a strong feeling on Tim Murray one way or the other, but I do like that he is somewhat in tune with the leauge, as it is right now. Not a knock on LaFonataine and Ted Nolan, just good to have somebody who is actively involved in the league in the mix. Will be curious to see what the game plan is the rest of the way...do they trade Miller now? He is as likely as valuable as he ever will be right now (playing lights out fantastic, Olympic team) but does that give them more reason to keep him or trade him. There have been rumors that they are trying to trade Enroth..which would seem to indicate they are going to re-committ to Miller... but those are only rumors, and we now haven't had a GM for the last few months.... I can't overstate enough how much more enjoyable this team is to watch (win or lose) since the LaFontaine/Nolan hires, than it had been for the last two years or so. But, I am confused as to what they are doing...trying to scramble for a final playoff spot (not likely to happen), or bottom out and hope for the best in the draft. I am never one to advocate losing for a higher draft spot (with lottery, that isn't even assured anyways), but that seemed to be the plan before Darcy was canned. Sabres are so close to that original goal (finishing in the bottom 5 I mean), do they officially change course now? Or, do they go with Darcy's strategy? I get the feeling Darcy was fired as much because the animosity from fans had grown so much that T-Pegs couldn't ignore it any longer...but with a whole new crew on board, it buys them more time with the fans to build that proverbial Stanley Cup championship team.... Also struck by the uncanny resemblence between Murray and actor Lenny Venito: https://www.google.com/search?q=lenny+venito&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=ps7OUo6gF4nu2gXFpoEo&sqi=2&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1280&bih=856#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=rVIYmTyRWjnSYM%253A%3BXjyIZrkOp9PJhM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fimages.bwwstatic.com%252Fupload%252F22126%252Ftn-500_39.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.broadwayworld.com%252Farticle%252FPhoto-Coverage-The-Ritz-Opening-Night-After-Party-20071012%3B293%3B450 -
Sorry guys...we're Bills fans, we are togher than that... we know it was a forward pass... What really strikes me about this clip, even more that the result: - Fourteen years to the day since our last playoff game, but I remember it like it was this past weekend...everyone of us over, say, 20 years old remembers where they were... - Joe Theisman and Paul Maguire were ABC's "A-Team" not that long ago! Really sorry guys...it is part of our history, for better or worse...
