  1. This past off-season, Andre Reed did one of those sort of "coaching fellowship"/training type things with the Chiefs. I think every team has one or two during training camp. I remember hearing him in a phone interview on GR, and he was asked if he had tried to come to Buffalo for his position...he had an interesting answer. To paraphrase, he just said he wanted to do it somewhere other than Buffalo, because he wanted to learn, and he thought coming to Buffalo would just turn into a trip down memory lane, and sort of a novelty, given his ties with the organization. He just felt he would actually learn more elsewhere.
  2. Years ago, when I lived in NYC, went to see "Dances With Wolves" the week it came out. It was "the" movie at the time, and the theater was packed. About halfway through the movie, we heard some woman yelling "is there a doctor in the house?" Then, an older man came stumbling up the middle isle, holding his stomach as blood was leaking out, pretty quickly... lights came up, ever so slightly, and there was lots of commotion...film kept rolling the whole time, even as cops and medics were in and out... ended up, this old guy had asked a bunch of unruly kids, who were talking a lot, to be quiet. One of the kids pulled a knife and stabbed him... the old guy ended up being Tim Zagat, he of the famous (now infamous) Zagat restaurant guides fame.
  3. Maybe the old man had seen "Gran Torino" one too many times....
  4. Yes...the NFL implemented this after last season...from the linked article, here are the specific rules: "If no team volunteers to be featured in the show, which provides a documentary-style look into a team's training camp, the league will require one team to be on the show if they meet certain parameters: 1. The team has a returning head coach. 2. The team hasn't made the playoffs in the last two seasons. 3. The team hasn't been on the show in the last 10 years." The Bills are one of 8 teams to meet the criterion. "
  5. In theory, I want no part of the Bills on Hard Knocks...however, with the NFL mandating that every team will have to do it eventually, why not? I am going to watch it, no matter the team...the Bills taking their turn would only make it all the more interesting.
  6. Wonder what happened with Whisenhunt to Detroit. It was being reported as all but a done deal before today. Something must have gone down, cuz on paper, Detroit is a much better situation to go to than Tennessee, in my opinion. Hmmm... sounds like Frank Reich is the favorite to replace Whisenhunt as OC in San Diego.
  7. Yeah, I don' think I have watched a pre-game show in about 3 or 4 years...I usually watch one highlight show each Sunday or Monday, but that is about it. I was so excited when Time Warner finally got the NFL Network at the begining of the 2012 season...but I can't stand it...only thing I watch is older stuff (Football Life, NFL Films stuff, classic games)....it is all just so repetitive and nonsensical. Sometimes, less is more.
  8. I gotta say, coverage of these match-ups, and personalitues will always reach the saturation point for most of us...I find myself enjoying the games a lot more if I pay less attention to ESPN and NFL Network, etc etc...there is very little news value to their programming...we get burned out on guys like Manning and Brady...don't let the coverage turn you off from watching and enjoying some of the very greatest players from this era...in the "good old days" we were starved for football coverage, now we are stuffed with it.
  9. I have heard it mentioned a few times this season, Reich is being credited heavily for Phillip Rivers return from oblivian.
  10. Nice...always wished Frank had become a part of the Bills coaching staff... http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/2013/story/_/id/10282229/san-diego-chargers-target-frank-reich-offensive-coordinator-void-appears
  11. I am not sure if that is completely true...they don't make a lot, but I believe they do get paid a very minimal salary, along with a daily salary (about $100-150) for each day they are in session.
  12. If those stats are accurate (I have no reason to think they are not, and too lazy to look myself) that is pretty damn impressive....Byrd isn't the hitter that the other two guys are...but nowadays, all that does is get you a flag...turnovers are huge! I will admit, I am one who is in the "let him fly if he doesn't want to be here....don't overpay him" camp..but those are impressive numbers.
  13. Thanks for recognizing this. Harbaugh is both a sore loser and a sore winner. Can't stand the guy. Strangely, I don't mind his brother so much...maybe I am getting old, but I think Harbaughs' antics are embarassing. I liked him, somewhat, as a player, but he is such a blue-blood little prick...I don't like Pete Carroll for many of the same reasons...I don't want which of them I can't stand more. I know I would pull for Denver in a heartbeat over the other 3 teams...but I think I respect Brady and Bellechik (didn't say like) more than the NFC representatives.
  14. Eh...we just live in very negative times. Our hate for other teams far exceeds our like of any others...it is just kind of like that...remember, back when the Bills were annually losing Super Bowls, there was a huge back-lash against them, because people were just sick of seeing them and hearing about them... For me, I hate the Pats (for all the obvious reasons), and I despise Jim Harbaugh (is there a more classless jerk HC in the NFL?) and Pete Carroll (is there a more classless jerk HC in the NFL), so the Broncos are the only team left to root for. I have a hard time hating Manning...
  15. You are so wrong on this particular subject!
  16. Thanks for the update!
  17. Of the possible match-ups left, I hope to god it is Denver and Carolina...but New Egland/Seattle seems most likely....I can't stand New England, Seattle or San Francisco, so this Super Bowl is likely going to be painful for me...deciding who I hate more, New England, Seattle or San Francisco....
  18. You must forgive him...it's the uticaclub talking...
  19. Kiko did pretty well, but the middle positon kind of neutralizes his speed to a degree... as well as he played, he got caught out of postion numerous times over the last season, and big runs were given up through the middle.

  21. I remember that day... I had to work, so couldn't watch the game live. It was before DVR...so I had the old VCR rolling, couldn't wait to get off work to watch it...I was the boss, so everybody was under orders to keep their mouths shut about the game...I had big plans... a case of good beer, making chicken wings...I was so pumped. Then, just as I am leaving, this, uh developmentally challanged guy who was working for us, comes in for his evening shift and says "Hey man, congrats on your Bills" and high-fives me. I couldn't get mad at him (visibly), but inside I was seething... I couldn't believe I had gotten through the whole day avoiding the score, just to have it blown on my way out the door... it really took the wind out of my sailes...but "hell" I thought "at least we won...it would be much worse if we lost, to know ahead of time". So, I get home, was pretty tired from a long day...I figured, what the hell, I already know the Bills won, I'll just take a nap for a couple hours, get up, and enjoy the victory... I get up after taking a slightly longer nap than I had intended...no work the next day..cool...still gonna drink some brews, cook up some wings, and watch the Bills kick some ass... By the time I sit down to watch the game, it is about 10:30pm....I see my answering machine is blinking away, with 6 messages...I am going to ignore them til the game is over...I know the Bills won, but I have no idea the score, or how they won...so there is still some intrigue... I am watching, getting buzzed, feeling good, cuz no matter how things may look, I know, "nobody circles the wagons..." Rob Johnson leads them down the field for the winning field goal, or so I thought...then, that abomination of a play happens...the forward lateral...I remember seeing Wade Phillips with that skeptical smile...he seemed sure it was an illeagal play, I know the Bills won, so I am not sweating it,.but the game was a little too close for comfort..I had convinced myself that the Bills defense was taking them to Super Bowl #5 (this time we're serious!), no whoop! Let them review it, take their time...we won! So as they are reviewing, I figure, safe to check my messages...first message, my brother with a "WTF!!! Wade Phillips needs to get his ass canned...it should have never come down to this...if Flutie was in there it would have been much different". That is my brother for ya...can't be happy even when they win...next message, my buddy Mitch "wow...what a way to lose...sorry about your Bills" Just then, I start hearing the the Tennessee fans going ape-****...the Bills lost...how the !@#$ did that happen? I swore, and I swore loud....my girlfriend yells from the bedroom "what's wrong? You knew they lost, didn't you?" Needless to say, watching the whole game, "knowing" that the Bills won the game, only to find out I had beem mis-informed, made it one of the cruelist Bills losses in my 42 year history (at that time 28 years) with the Bills.... It was one of my most gr
  22. Not an Andy Dalton basher, but his erratic play was their biggest obstacle all year. I don't put that on Gruden at all.
