Heard Rick on the John Murphy show, right after Ralph Wilson passed away. It was a great interview. Pretty interesting guy. Although he was only the Bills color guy for about 7 seasons, growing up in Buffalo (born in 1965, moved away in 1988), he is the media name I most associate with the Bills, for some reason, and just Buffalo sports in genral. Funny thing is, all the years Van Miller did the games, I really most associate him with the Buffalo Braves games. Of course, I appreciate Van more, now, in retrospect. Can't wait to read the Rick Azar book. He has an interesting story, it sounds like, even beyond sports. He grew up in Brooklyn (or was it Queens?) and moved to Buffalo back in the days when Buffalo was still a "big city" on the national radar... Thanks for the links! Will give these a listen later!

Okay...I am embarassed to admit it, but as a kid, the Bills were my favorite team...followed by the Broncos and the Cowboys. The Bills were mostly bad then (talking 70's), and when the Cowboys were on MNF it was a special event to me. Always pulled for the Cowboys over the Raiders and Steelers back then...loved Staubach! Tom Landry was the archetype football coach for me. Of course, my views on the franchise changed when the two JJ's took over... Jerry Richardson played for the Colts for two seasons )(1959-1960)....he is worth somewhere between 1.1 and 2.5 billion dollars, depending on what you read...maybe they are just considering modern era guys?

Seems like Freeman's durablity has been a concern too. Not saying I would have no interest in him (I was one of those who really liked the idea when he was cut last season), just that his Minnesota experience was kind of head scratching.

I must admit, I have not watched a ton of Bucs football over the last 4 years... my only real awareness of Mike Williams has been through Fantasy Football...but the highlight films have me drooling... size, speed, physical player... we haven't had a guy like that since Moulds.

I would be shocked if Jerry Richardson wasn't #1.

Sounds like there could be more to come out about the Jim Irsay story. A woman was found dead in a house that Irsay owned. He apparently gave the house to her...coke found at scene...pictures of Irsay in the house...how will Goodell handle disciplining one of his 32 bosses? http://www.indystar....arrest/7368789/

Sorry for your loss Big Cat. I know a few of us here have lost parents recently...time is the only healer. By no means I am an expert on cars, but it sounds like you may have damaged your brake-line. Have you noticed any leaks? Check your brake fluid...if it is low, you probably have a leak. It will definitely makes your brakes "soft". Not a good feeling... I had to replace my entire break system about 4 years ago. As I recall, it cost about $900, parts and labor. It was really the first major repair I had to make on my car, which is a 1994 Accord. The problem was caused by age of the car, more than a specific incident. Sadly, I have noticed lately, a leak in the same area again, and the breaks are a little softer than I would like.

Okay... so where does any of this come from? There are plenty of NFL owners have as much/more invested in owning other busnesses as Jacobs and Pegula have in their respective NHL franchises. Are you expecting a billionaire candidate to step out of the shadows, that has no other business endeavors to occupy their time. If so, you will be waiting a long time. How do you think Jacobs has maintained the Bruins, and his Delaware North?

Lets hope this is the Mike Williams we are getting...music NSFW, but cool song!

Donald Trump asked to invest in the Bills
Buftex replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Trump is just getting the attention he needs to keep breathing... One of my all-time favorite put downs, from an article about Trump, last week: "the ambient ridiculousness that trails Donald Trump like a cloud of steak-fart and pine cone air freshener scent serves to obscure and overwhelm his every action and utterance." -

Donald Trump asked to invest in the Bills

Not sure how much they would be sold for, though from what I understand of Trump, most of his "worth" is an assets, rather than cash. I am not taking him seriously as a potential Bills owner... can't stand the guy. As has been mentioned in other threads, if he did have any hope of being an NFL owner, he would have to cut his ties to his casinos. Can anyone see that happening? I can't. I used to hate Cuban, for all the reasons that most people hate him...big mouth, always wanting the spotlight...but I have come to respect him much more in recent years. I can't see the NFL allowing him into the billionaire boys club either, for some of the same reasons as Trump. I am still pinning my hopes on Pegula. I may be wrong about this (and I am sure somebody will jump on me to correct me!), but if I recall, last time I checked, if Pegula purchased the Bills, he would be the 5th or 6th wealthiest owner in the league... surprisingly (at least to me), Ralph Wilson was on the upper end of the wealth charts too. -
jboyst... I am pretty computer illiterate, when it comes to anything technical. If I am understanding what you are asking, all you have to do is run an HDMI cable between your tv and your computer. I use a laptop. I do it all the time. I get the NFL Rewind package (for example) , and watch games on my 46" HD tv all the time...it isn't quite HD quality, but it is pretty damn good. Also just watch music video stuff off of youtube pretty frequently...hulu... Essentially, just using your TV as a 46" monitor. Of course, this is probably not what you are asking...

Russ has just announced, in an attempt to widen the teams reach, the Toronto Series exhibition game will now be rotated, on an annual basis between Williamsville South, and Williamsville North.

Source: Bills could have new owner as soon as October
Buftex replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Some great points made in this thread. I am inclined to believe the notion of a relatively quick sale is a good sign... but I realize there is a possibility (Toronto) we could be very disappointed. I just don't think so... That said, I absolutely love the idea of Pegula as the owner of the Bills. I have pointed out numerous times over the years (not that I would expect anyone to remember) in posts concerning the Bills future, that I was really struck by the boldness, and definitive terms that Jim Kelly has spoken with, in assuring everyone that the Bills aren't going anywhere. Some people here just wrote it off as Kelly being a big mouth, or an arrogant jerk, or whatever was in vogue with Kelly bashers at the time... as 51to3 points out as well. I never had the feeling that Kelly's swagger on the subject was coming out of wishful thinking, but instead, real knowledge that none of us were privy to. Don't know if anyone recalls, but a few years ago now, Thurman Thomas, on the subject of the Bills future, made some twitter noise as if he was a little kid, just dying to tell a secret. It seemed, at that time, that some sort of official announcement might be forthcoming....but it never happened. I also have a source at One Bills Drive who told me that a few years ago (can't remember now, I think it was the year they spent without an actual GM, when Marv stepped down) right before the Super Bowl that year, there was a "all hands" meeting at One Bills Drive, where it was explained that Jim Kelly would be "seen a lot around here" in the future...his role was undefined...some assumed he might be being groomed to be the Bills future GM, and part of eventual ownership. But it wasn't something they should all spend a lot of time speculating about amongst themselves, just to help him with anything he asked for help with. Again, an official announcement was rumored to be coming, during Super Bowl week, but it never happened. Kelly was unofficially hired by the team, in some un-named capacity, and it almost seemed like he was simply a team ambassador. Like the Sabres did for years, with Gilbert Perreault...essentially paying him to be Gilbert Perreault, show up at some events...collect a regular check. This was all before Terry Pegula was a known commodity to us. Sorry, my memory is hazy now (getting worse all the time), but I could swear that Kelly was known to have a very friendly relationship with Tom Golisano at that time. I am thinking, as many have said, something has been brewing for that long. But, while I hope Terry Pegula is our guy, a part of me won't be surprised if it ends up being Tom Golisano. TG has made a few comments over the years, while attempting to be tactful, acknowledging that he could very likely have interest in purchasing the Bills. -
My guess too...somewhere in the 55-65 age.

Does this really change anything? Is she the "sole owner" until she can sell the team?

Buffalobills.com: Get to know Alexandra Vitale

I used to love Beadle...then she disappered to NBC Sports, which I like. But no Beadle to be found! Then, the other night, flipping past ESPN2 and, whoa! Beadle is back on ESPN "SportsNation". Without Colin Cowherd!!!! That is great...must admit, I rarely watch ESPN any more (I prefer NBC Sports "Football Talk" to any of ESPN's NFL shows in the off-season), but I may make it part of my semi-regular rotation again, with Beadle being back! Like your avatar! For a second there, I thought Jim was doing double barrelled flip-off! To Archie Bunkers' point...the ratio of good/terrible female sports reporters is about equal to the ratio of good/terrible male sports reporters. -
New Stadium or Retrofitting the Ralph?
Buftex replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Canadian side of the Falls might be able to handle a Super Bowl in the not too distant future...but the American side, I don't know. Of course, at this point, the Super Bowl is more of a corporate thing, but the whole passport issue might be a consideration. -
New Stadium or Retrofitting the Ralph?
Buftex replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is exactly the kind of thing I am talking about. A stadium for the Bills/Bulls sounds like a great idea, but there are a lot of obstacles to work around. Not sure what the setup is in Arizona. I am assuming the stadium is not on the college campus? -
Can Bills Fans Own and Operate a New Stadium?
Buftex replied to Tu-Toned's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As I said somewhere today (all these threads are becoming a blur), there is a good chance that the Bills long-term future in Buffalo is going to be dependent on how committed the NFL is to keeping a team in Buffalo. I honestly think the BFA model is one that could work, if the NFL will allow it to. -

New Stadium or Retrofitting the Ralph?
Buftex replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oh, I agree...I don't have to live there to know that. Just saying, when you are dealing with a University you are dealing with a whole bunch of headaches you wouldn't have to deal with otherwise. -

Yes, didn't mean to igore your UB option, just never gave it much thought. I like your point someone made about a stadium shared by the Bulls and Bills being more likely to garner state-wide support...but I also fear that a shared situation would be more likely to make the Bills expendable in the equation.
