Dane Jackson was toast 😬
EmotionallyUnstable replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’d love to know what technique they teach to PBI while in phase. Dane can’t make a play on the ball, but can he at least hammer an arm or something? -
Out of curiosity, what do you mean by getting torched? Out of position, or just beat? Elam and White in man compared to Benford and Jackson is a whole lot different

Re:bolded - I meant the clip of Cook reading a block, single clip. You can’t qualify his ability by if he rushed for 1000 yards…as he does not see a similar work load to other top RBs. Look at last years statistics: 188 carries for 870 yards. The fewest number of carries a 1k rusher saw was 228. Given he ran last year averaging 4.6 ypc, an additional 40 carries (+184 yards) last year would have put him around 1054 yards. That’s right on par with: Derrick Henry 207 carries for 937 yards Zeke Elliot - 237 carries for 1002 yards Antonio Gibson - 258 carries 1057 yards I am not suggesting he is any of those backs. I am supporting my point that his production is effected by his usage, and you cannot dismiss him as being unproven because he hasn’t reach some arbitrary statistical landmark.

I hope this team starts to play more man coverage if/when Elam and White can return. Tough ask to do with Von/Groot/Epinessa all injured and back-up quality CBs getting the start.

Bills at Lions - Post Game Thread
EmotionallyUnstable replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Didn’t read through yet but I thought this was an interesting observation: First Half Motion - Man to man coverage bumped, no trailing players but passed them off. This often created St. Brown in advantageous matchups Second Half Motion - Man to man coverage runs with and trails assignment, no passing off players. I haven’t rewatched but it was an interesting adjustment that I noticed early after the half. Anyone else notice anything along these lines? I was hoping they would have played more man coverage but losing Von probably played a role in this. -
We’ll find out next year, no matter what. Simgletary likely won’t be back with this team as a back up, or a starter, due to the financial restraints this team will make. You can post a video that shows Cook making a good cut. There are 100 more for Singletary doing the same. The photo you posted re: Singletary was heavily discussed and questioned the accuracy due to it being a still shot and lack of EZ angle. You can pick and choose videos, photos and statistics all you want to support your claim. When it comes down to it, THIS YEAR, it isn’t even close who is the more reliable and appropriate option for this team to lean on. Again, Singletary has years as a proven rusher, receiver and pass protector. Cool is a pipe dream for the future that I fear Beane reached on. We can disagree, that is fine. I never said he was the truth a RB, or an all pro, or even a pro bowler. But I guarantee you in NFL circles he garners a ton of respect from players and coaches for his abilities and results on the field.

I gotta bump this. Dude absolutely balled out and played like a mad man today. Shout out to him, Big Ed and Settle for showing up against the run and being our saving grace in as pass rushers while we’re down our two starting DEs. I can’t wait to watch the film. -
You can definitely argue this. At the same time…shout out to AJ Klien who stepped in off the street to make a handful of really nice stops today. Dodson looking again like JAG and Edmunds importance to this defense continues to become more apparent as these Lions WRs appeared to be running unchecked throughout the middle of the defense all day

Cook’s athleticism is great. And what’s that do for you if you can’t read blocks, break tackles or catch the football? Because he doesn’t have track speed, he is has low athleticism? Sure. Ignore balance, agility, lean, leverage and everything else that makes him a tremendous and reliable asset in the run game. Do you like baseball? Here is a reference for you: If you build a team to hit home runs, you better be prepared to deal with strikeouts. This is James Cook, and 100% why Singletary needs to be out “get on base” lead runner. He has a fantastic first cut and ability to make people miss. He rarely goes down on first contact, and always falls forward with his low center of gravity and leg churn. Our home run hitter is Allen and the passing offense. Our running game is built to be a reliable and sustainable complimentary piece.

Cook is a great athlete, yet a sun-par RB. Singletary is a battle-tested, quality pro. There is no question who should be getting the majority of the work load.

I don’t give a ***** who else in the NFL or history of the league could have, or can, make a throw of this caliber. I only care about the fact that our guy did, and it was a thing of beauty.

To all those saying Wilson needs to “take a step back” and observe and learn from the sideline… Didn’t he just do that? He started the year injured and had that opportunity already. This dude is toast.

Devin Singletary Mic'd Up Bills vs. Browns
EmotionallyUnstable replied to Warcodered's topic in The Stadium Wall
He walks. You have to keep in mind, this is his biggest opportunity for a large pay day. We are not in a position to do so, but others will be. I think he’ll take more money elsewhere, and given the acquisition Cook (2nd round pick) and the trade for Hines (4.5mil in 2023), they likely had the foresight to see this coming. Edmunds Oliver Poyer in that order BUT a stud WR before all of them in FA would be nice! -
Do we need to start blitzing more?
EmotionallyUnstable replied to Toledo Bill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Upon further review- 3rd & 9 with 12:29 left in the fourth. Bills rush 5 will Taron and Milano off the edge, dropping Basham into coverage. Milano gets home for the sack, as the OL is completely confused and he is unblocked So it does work at times, but is very frustrating when it doesn’t, it frustrates the hell out of me! -
Devin Singletary Mic'd Up Bills vs. Browns

Hands down the best segment of the clip is at 6:30 shortly following spencer brown telling Motor he tackled him… Brown lays on his back, raises both hands in the air as if waiting for the parade of browns defenders walking by to help him up. After 3 seconds, he rolls off. what an awesome slice of humble pie served cold. Brown is icyyyy -

Jones, Settle, Oliver are all free agents to be in 2024…DL will have little turnover next year with Epinessa, Von, Groot and Basham all back on contract. The only expiring contracts are Phillips and Lawson -
Week 12: Bills at Lions on Thanksgiving
EmotionallyUnstable replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
It was a mix of ridiculous catches, poor technique by DBs in good coverage or guys out of position and beat by his routes. -
I like this guy a ton in the ground game. He has been quietly stout against the run. Many times, he’s blowing up plays before they have a chance to develop. Although he doesn’t always show up on the stat sheet, he is wildly impactful. In a time with a ton of injuries at LB, it is paramount that our DL can stop rushes at the point of attack. We’ve all seen what can happen at the second level with this team when runs start to develop. IMO he has stepped up and made behind the scene play after play in the run game and no one ever mentions him. As a pass rusher, he leaves a lot to be desired IMO, but I won’t get into that here. He ain’t perfect, but he is helping out more than most would know. He is one of the reasons I am hopeful for our still-depleted defense on Thanksgiving. Keep it up, Jones!

Do we need to start blitzing more?
EmotionallyUnstable replied to Toledo Bill's topic in The Stadium Wall
I would be more inclined to think this way if they were getting home when they blitz/stunt. They don’t appear to be any more successful in rushing the QB than when they rush 4. My biggest issue up front is when they swap DE/LB roles and drop Boogie Basham or some rando into coverage. It almost never works. Actually I’ve found that as of late, they’ve been really bad with these stunts. They do wreak havoc, but as we’ve seen, a calm and collect QB (even Brissett) can take advantage of their undisciplined rush when they are over aggressive up front. The issues on the defense are not up front IMO. The back-end has been brutal. CBs are not in position to make plays. When they are in phase, technique has been poor. I’d pay good money to know what McD and Fraiser teach these guys about playing the ball vs hands while in phase, and also what their trail technique is. We’ve seen a lot more press coverage, and they mixed in a ton of man and zone throughout the CLE game. It hasn’t helped. Guys are out of position, or in position and not making plays, or ridiculous plays are being made on O. Look at the first Cooper TD. We blitz, QB heaves it home, Johnson was beat with his inside leverage and Hamlin was no help over the top. Cooper and Brissett just made a heck of a play. There is no cure-all for their defensive woes. It starts by getting healthy and remaining disciplined in your rushing lanes. With Elam (hopefully) back this week, I expect a ton of man coverage vs this team, but I don’t necessarily think that means they’ll blitz or stunt more. -
