  1. You might not love it when you realize that there may be two practice squad guys playing the O-line this week. This will not be last weeks running attack.
  2. Don't forget Urbik, a quality guard that also plays center. Have needed him there two years in a row. And, I am still not a believer in Hairston, he gets beat to much by speed guys.
  3. Actually, I was glad when Poz went elsewhere, as he was brittle in the sense of missed seasons. Apparently Woods is also, so I am not opposed to getting another quslity lineman who can plaly center with a premium draft pick. the all pro Centers never miss a game.
  4. I throw out another thesis about why we didn't see Easley. The run game was the plan, Bills were ahead, conditions were bad for the throwing game and so, the principle job of the WR's at that point was to block for the running game. I think that ruvell Martin is better fodder for that kind of situation, at least right now. Easley will still get his chance this season, I hope. I just think Chan was saving Easley for a better situation. Why get him hurt again blocking lb's ...time for that later...need to find out if he is a receiver. Based on the preseason return for a TD, and the really good return yesterday, we see he has some skills. If he can play receiver, we can use him.
  5. I think as commissioner, I would notice that the Bills were given 4 of 5 December games at home in the cold weather, and punish them with 4 home games in the nice fall weather in September next season. (we are dreaming, are we not?) (I guess we are not dreaming, since the Bills DO have four home games in December!!) Mr Brandon is NOT doing his job protecting the franchaise here!!! (ahhh,,,I know your all knew that)
  6. Actually, he got in trouble for the coverup attempt, more than the actual incident.
  7. OK, first of all, he was at CB on the first play. McKelvin's injury was has back tightened up overnight, and they tried to have him return punts. He went down funny after a fair catch in the 1st qrt, and was walked off the field after that. Now, back to Brooks play. He was really green out there, and did commit penalities, and really got beat a number of times. (Shorts, mostly) After watching him all day, I agree he plays hard every play, and will learn the NFL game better with experience. But, contrary to several comments above, I am worried about his speed. In the Indy game, he was closely trailing Hilton on the TD kickoff return, and he could not keep up....could not run down Hilton. Therefore, I deduce that his speed is average at best, and not premium burner speed to run with the best receivers. (see McKelvin for speed) But, he was no worse than Arron Williams has been, and maybe better on a number of plays. So, he may still be a player or starter even, but I am not convinced yet by any means.
  8. I was at the game, watched him specifically on several plays. He is definitely playing hurt, shoulder arm injuries. I saw one play where he had a great initial charge, was doubled, thrown back, and then started off the field hanging his arm shoulder. But, about 5 yards from the sideline, he turned around and went back into the huddle. Actually, we would be better off if he was not playing the hero, and got out of there when he is hurt like that. Yes, I think Kelsey is gone.
  9. Fitz had the long ball to some degree last year, and has not hit any this year.....the new coach definitely screwed him up. Will it be back next year, I don't know. I think Fitz stays unless..........Nix trades for Alex Smith....would be a heavy price....I would not criticize such a move however. Fitz would , then, be cut loose, 'cause backups don't get paid 10mil per season. (Actually save money, since Smith is making 8-9 Mil per season)
  10. Well, things aren't good in terms of results, we all feel that. But, I have to say that when I step back, and think about the Jaron era vs the Gailey era, I am not near as upset with Gaileys effors as I was with Jaron. So, if Gailey stays, I can live with it for another year or two. I see a lot of good things as well as the oft discussed shortcomings with the Gailey administration. This time its not a clear cut situation like it was at the end of the Jaron era.
  11. Those Jets fans are not thinking people. Any one of the Jets guys go off the railroad tracks at a moment like that, and he could do serious damage to an obnoxious fan or fans. I know, it would cost him dearly, but, that may not keep that from happening. Years ago, (I am going to show my age) I attended a basketball game in the old Aud. Tom Heinson of Holy Cross (playing Canisius)(later the Celtic great) had a guy verbally riding him the whole game from the second row in the stands at one end. Near the end of the game, there was a skuffle at that end of the court. But, Heinson declined to get into the scuffle, instead he went into the stands and hit the loudmouth in the jaw with a haymaker. Verbal abuse like that situation is not thinking for sure!
  12. Actually, that gives one some pause to think before typing an answer. (I guess I show my age by calling it typing, not keyboarding) I think Chan's faults have been his selection of coaches under him, particularily on the defensive side. the two years of 3-4 defense are still hurting this team. Wanny's D has not been good, the D was slow to adopt to the 4-3, and his selection of players has been flawed. This incessant playing of A Williams is a real mistake, he isn't a CB, but he may get George Wilson's job later, we will see, as he was a safety at Texas. In fact, I was astounded when the Bills put him at CB. However, Gailey has had trouble getting quality coaches to come to Buffalo at all, and despite his apparent intransigence to anything but a vinella version of the 4-3, this D is getting better. Gailey's offense is pretty good also, but I think he should move the play calling to an OC who can do the job, not a retread NFL head coaching failure (see jets) I guess I think Fitz inability to throw the long ball is the most glaring weakness of the group, and another QB needs to get a shot. The draft will/would be a slow process, and that should be started. Either Jackson or Thigpen has to go. Or trade for a guy like Kirk Cousins, a talented backup. So, if one has to go, I voet Fitz, but only in another year or two, when a prepared successor is ready.
  13. I liked this guy coming out. I am in favor of giving it a shot, unless, of course, he has a substance abuse problem. Remember, ignorance can be cured, but stupid is forever.
  14. The real question here is can Jackson handle the mental part of running this offense. Fitz with his Wunderlich score of 48 and Harvard education has the big brain part down pat. His arm is the issue. Jackson needs to know enough to run a respectable offense, not necessarily th e whole package, but a respectable play mix. Anyhow, I think we will see him when the bills are at 8 or 9 losses.
  15. well, thats only part of the reason. Even in the good years (yeh, I remember them), the December games were a problem, and some of the Jim Kelly era games were blacked out. So, quality football isn't the sole answer. Of course, the answer is it the cold WEATHER. Brandon should know this, your answer misses the point as well.
  16. As soon as possible, but not sooner. That means keep him until there is a better alternative. And, I think we need to find out about Jackson some this year. We already know Thigpen is not the guy.
  17. They are unlikely to hit 8-8. that requires going 4 of 5, and we have not seen anything like that consistency from this team. Even though the schedule is weak, I would bet against that outcome. I think 2 or 3 wins in more likely. Yes, the d has gotten better since the bye week, don't know why they could not have started that way. One of the improvements is McKelvin replacing Williams, who is no sort of CB. One of the above comments calls Stevie a top 10 receiver. Sorry to disagree, Stevie may be in the top 30, but not the top ten. Did you see the long ball he caught against INdy. Three (thats 3 folks) DB's in the INdy secondary ran him down. Stevie is a big receiver with complex moves, and gets free a lot. But, he lacks the speed of a top 10 receiver.
  18. Well, Modkins may contribute in areas that Chan needs help, and Chan knows it. I dno't think for a minute he is a get the coffee guy.
  19. Actually,, the cornerback play today didn't lose the game. Both Gilmore and McKelvin had decent days. Bryan Scott showed his age, however. And Geroge Wilson was a no show, as well. gilmore is doing fine as a rookie, and will make plays when he gets totally oriented. I recall that a number of our 1st round db's weren't good at interceptions early. Starting with thomas Smith (remember him?) winfield was better at it later years in Minn. Clements was an inceptor/ball hawk when here, but only in games he decided to play hard in. (half the time) McKelvin may well be the next 5 year Bill #1 to go on to do well with another team, after making all the mistakes with us learning how to play. He sure looks a lot better than Williams did when he was in there. Williams is no cornerback. Maybe he can replace Wilson at safety, though, since he is a hitter. Oh well, enough CB history
  20. Yes this team is as bad as Jaron era teams.....and may not get the 7 wins that Jaron produced. The O is terrible, other than Spiller, no game breakers. So, other than the New England game, one offensive touchdown in three games. Pathetic. Heads need to roll. The D actually did fairly well today, allowng 14 points. Some of the guys playing don't have it though. Ron Brooks is slow, should not be planning for him to be a corner of the future. Hairsten was undressed by Mathis, he can't play. LB's didn't make plays. Gilmore and McKelvin did OK, even Justin Rogers made a big play. George Wilson a non show. Mario gets three sacks, and looked like the 100M man first time this year. Gailey may get another year, and he will give Wannestat another year, and then they will both be gone. Gailey has picked poorly for his D coordinators, of course, there is a slight problem in that no legitimate coach wants to come to Buffalo, so Gailey's selection choices may be really limited.
  21. So many players to be replaced. Coaches as well. Hairston undressed by Mathis, we need Pears or another LT. Brooks can't run with the wr's, need another cb. Rogers with the int, and getting the long penality. LB's getting beat regularily, need some of them too. Fitz arm runs hot and cold. Our receivers are not good. Steveie has heart, but not speed. Need some big time help. Offense is terrible, Defense is bad also, but better than the first few games. Not much to look forward to in Dec
