  1. Back in those days, teams were formed from players working at the same company (with the company sponsoring the team). In a slightly different twist, the Dayton Triangles were formed from players working at three companies in downtown Dayton: Dayton Engineering Laboratories Company (DELCO), Dayton Metal Products Company and the Domestic Engineering Company. The plants for these three companies formed an "industrial triangle" in downtown Dayton. All three companies were started by patent attorney F.B. MacNab.
  2. November 27, 1921: Dayton Triangles vs. Buffalo All-Americans Linky I know I have been lax in the Historical GOTW's this year. Hopefully, this little history lesson will make up for it.
  3. That was a very good article. Well worth the read. Not enough people know what these players go through after retirement. More of these types of articles need to be written to show that the NFLPA needs to do more to take care of their own after retirement.
  4. Well...Other than that, the storylines are pretty much identical.
  5. My prayers and thoughts go out to you, scribe.
  6. Died from bone cancer on December 7. Obit Al Dorow Stats
  7. Brilliant!! Probably the best idea yet.
  8. You might be able to get him to do that, but I doubt it. He is living pretty good right now and is enjoying his relaxation. It would probably cost a boatload of cash to get him to temporarily unretire to help search for a GM (which could also cost a boatload of cash).
  9. Ron is enjoying retirement right now. Lots of traveling, etc. I do not see him doing anything outside of a consulting gig. It would be great to have him, but I do not see him going anywhere.
  10. HFBD, Lisa!!
  11. You must be mistaken. That was way before the start of pro football in 1970.
  12. The voters want the exact opposite and want to induct more people every year. They have been inducting people who do not belong in the Hall, while leaving out people who do belong. They do not have a clue and it is continually going to get worse (just look at the seniors candidates recently). They are turning the Hall into a joke and the contact I have had with some selectors indicates that they really don't care.
  13. Former Bill (and Bronco and Pat*) Tom Janik passed away on Saturday. Obit Stats
  14. Because NFL history did not start until the Super Bowl era.
  15. HFBD, old-timer!!
  16. Well, I just received the author copies of the book, so they should be available at Amazon, etc within the next few days. Amazon Linky This book details the Original Buffalo Bills; members of the All-America Football Conference. While they only lasted four years (1946-1949), they left an impact on the city. I will be making NO money off of this project. 100% of all royalties will be donated to Fourth and Goal to assist retired players in need.
  17. Heffelfinger always denied that he ever was paid to play football. Brailler was the first to acknowledge receipt of payment to play football and always claimed he was first. Historians believed this until the infamous Nelson Ross manuscript was dropped off at the Steelers offices in the 1960s. I talked about this with Dan Rooney a couple of years ago when I was in his office. Here is what he said:
  18. Here is a review from the Buffalo News: Linky Thingy
  19. I'm shocked.
  20. The author has no control over the price. Complain to the publisher. Thank you!!
  21. OK, a few things from the thread: -Thanks for the plug, Lori!! -The AAFC Colts are not the same Colts from the 1958 championship game. The AAFC Colts folded after the 1950 season. -The Ram horns on the helmets did not come from Cleveland. They first appeared on the helmets in 1948, while they were in LA. -The Browns were from the AAFC and not the NFL, as correctly mentioned. -Re: Buffalo - It was not that George Preston Marshall didn't like us, he just liked the bribe money better. -Gordio: If you don't like my fact corrections, tough.
  22. How did he play after he got hurt? No thanks.
