  1. -Don't use drama to create ratings. Others have mentioned it in this thread, but yelling for the sake of yelling is pointless. Disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing is pointless. You provide nothing to the discussion. Ratings might be great, but you will be nothing more than the other hacks who do that on their shows. -Educate the listeners. Tell them why things are happening. Prove that you know what you are talking about. Make sure your listeners will always come away with something new when they listen to your show. Make your listeners more informed after your show than before. -Don't rely on stats too much to prove a point. Stats without context are meaningless. This isn't fantasy football. If all you do is look in an encyclopedia (or sites like Pro Football Reference) to determine who is a better player, don't even bother. Your opinion is worthless. -Pet Peeve Alert: By all means, never use "all-time" when referring to something that only has a one or two year frame of reference. If you do not know the history or are not including all of history, "all-time" does not apply. As a football historian, I will discount your opinion immediately if your frame of reference is too small.
  2. There were also other Nessers in pro football at the time, if you include cousins and uncles. I would like to toss out some props to the Kinard brothers.
  3. HFBD James!!
  4. Thanks, everyone!!
  5. Thank you!!
  6. Our thoughts are with you.
  7. If you do go to the concert, get there early. Parking is a B word. Also, there is a nice Greek restaurant across the street. A good place to have dinner.
  8. Let's see if I have this straight. The competition committee has messed with the rules to make it easier for teams to score (moving the kickoff back to get returns, tying the hands of the defense to benefit the offense, etc.). Now, they are complaining that it is too easy to score. Who is to blame for that? Maybe the very people now trying to change more rules to counteract the rules they changed? Here is a thought: change it back to the way it was. Don't add more rules to counteract the rule changes you made previously. Stop messing with the game. Player safetly is one thing. This is just ridiculous. Peter King and the OT reformists like tossing out the "60% of all coin toss winners win the game," while failing to mention that only 28% of the coin toss winners actually win on the first possession. Now, they just want to do it in the playoffs, where in the entire history of the NFL, only three times has the coin toss winner won on a field goal on the first possession. Obviously, this is a major catastrophe that needs to be rectified. Stupid.
  9. What is more suprising is that he came here for an answer.
  10. RIP Merlin Olsen.
  11. Do we blame the QB or OL when the receiver does not make the proper blitz reads? Do we blame the QB or OL when the receiver does not get open? How about when the RB misses his blocking assignments? Another useless stat for fantasy football geeks to take out of context to make it sound like they know football.
  12. Maggios was pretty good. A good selection of beers, but the band was too loud. They also could have done a better job with the food. Who serves mussels at a beerfest? That is just asking for trouble. I was not impressed with Wild Devil. The yeast was pretty funky. My favorites from Victory are Prima Pils, Hop Devil and Old Horizontal. Just a reminder, we still need to get together sometime to drink a few brewski's.
  13. Maggio's. If you want dinner at a place that has a good beer list, try the Iron Abbey. If you like Belgian beers, that is the place to go. The food is just OK and a little pricey, but you go there for the beer. Another option is to hit Iron Hill. They brew their own. Beer is good and the food is good. There are several locations in the area, so you can pick the one closest to you (probably Media or Phoenixville for you). If you are heading out with your housemates after moving, I would suggest Iron Hill.
  14. Call me ASAP. There is a Brewfest going on today that I will be attending. Lots of local breweries will be there giving out samples. I will PM with my number.
  15. Yeah...The Bills made the championship game that year.
  16. The Wegman's near me ('burbs of Philly) just started selling beer by the bottle and six-pack. It's nice to finally have that option here in PA.
  17. HFBD, big guy!!
  18. We still got paid.
  19. If they let Davis in, they had better let Mac Speedie in and should seriously consider Spec Sanders. Sanders was an absolute stud in his brief career.
  20. Ernie is a great guy. I have met him several times and he was always a pleasure to be around. Get well soon!!!
  21. Yes, I know. We have a bunch of machines on our floor that were just scrapped by you when you took over Wyeth.
  22. Because the selection committee is made up of a bunch of idiots.
  23. The selection committee continues to embarrass themselves every year. It is definitely apparent that they have no clue when it comes to football history and its players. They continue to cheapen the Hall and it sickens me.
  24. ...except the selectors have already stated that they were going to break the rules and consider his entire body of work. (See: Madden, John)
