  1. Minor note: Parcells is Executive Vice-President of Football Operations. Jeff Ireland is the GM.
  2. HFBD, Bill!!!
  3. Rest in peace, my friend.
  4. Seconded.
  5. Yes, I am Buddhist and yes, I watched the show (I have seen every episode). I am fine with the ending. It didn't follow Buddhist philosophy, but I do not think that was their intent. They wanted to give an interpretation of things based on various religions and philosophies. They wanted to try to find a common ground among the religions, which is why I think you had the stained-glass window showing the major religions of the world. I am not the type of person that is going to get bent out of shape because they showed something that does not follow my belief system (it's a TV show). Things like limbo or purgatory do not exist in Buddhism. There is no searching for a soulmate. There is no delay before being reborn. However, I do remember mentioning to my wife some references to Buddhist philosophies as we watched previous seasons (I do not recall the specific examples). Overall, I thought it was a very good show. I think that there are some things that could have been better and I would have liked to have more questions answered on the show, rather than have them answered after the show was finished. The fact that we need to go to message boards and places like E! to get answers, to me, means that things could have been handled a little better in the show. That does not detract from the fact that it was a very good show. With all of the crap that gets put out these days, it is nice to have a quality show like this. It really stands out.
  6. You do not achieve Dharma. Dharma is the path to enlightenment. It is not enlightenment.
  7. They are keeping it in the playoffs. They tabled adding it to the regular season.
  8. It's also known as the Wheel of Dharma. The spokes symbolize the Noble Eight Constituent Path (sammavaca, sammakammanta, samma-ajiva, sammavayama, sammasati, sammasamadhi, sammaditthi, sammasankappa).
  9. I LOVE the idea of playing a championship game in the elements. I am an old-school football guy, as most of you know. Football is supposed to be played in the elements. That is where true champions are determined. Do you think that Lombardi's Packers were sitting around boo-hooing "it's too cold."? Do you think that the great Cleveland Browns teams of the 1940s were saying, "we need to be cozy to play the game."? What about the 1958 Championship game? For decades, the champion was determined in the elements. Now, since we are putting skirts on quarterbacks, we need to have Super Bowls in warm-weather cities. Oh no. It might be slightly chilly with the possibility of a slight breeze. Chas and Buffy might have to put on a jacket while sipping their appletini's. The horror of it all. Those who do not want weather to determine the champion fail to realize that the elements have already determined who is playing in the championship game. The regular season and the playoffs are played in the elements. Heat. Cold. Rain. Snow. Wind. It is all there, determining who is playing in the championship game. The Super Bowl NJ: Bring it on. I would love to be there. If only it were affordable for the average fan.
  10. While there is no official connection, the Niagaras essentially became the Buffalo All-Americans of what is now named the NFL.
  11. For your football history lesson of the day, the 1918 Buffalo Semi-Professional Football League contained a team called the Pierce-Arrows. They went 2-3-1 for the season, finishing in second place behind the Niagaras (who went undefeated at 5-0-0). Coach: Raymond J. Fisher Schedule: October 20, 1918 Pierce-Arrows vs. Pittsburgh Colored Stars* October 27, 1918 Pierce-Arrows 31 vs. Pittsburgh Colored Stars 0 November 10, 1918 Pierce-Arrows 0 vs. Hydraulics 0 November 17, 1918 Pittsburgh Colored Stars 7 vs. Pierce-Arrows 0 November 24, 1918 Pierce-Arrows 6 vs. Pittsburgh Colored Stars 0 November 28, 1918 Niagaras 20 vs. Pierce-Arrows 0 * Game cancelled due to the Hun Flu epidemic. The public health department banned all public gatherings.
  12. Very nice article on him. Thank you for posting it.
  13. Unfortunately, there are still too many to get to. The PFRA is trying to get as many as possible, but there are just not enough people willing to interview players. I have all of the contact info, I just need people willing to interview the players. I was able to get all of the old Bills players, but there are still players from other teams that we need to interview. Are you still coming to the meeting in Canton? I will be making another plea for help there. Any suggestions would be welcome.
  14. He started as a RB for the Bisons in 46, but after Harry 'Hippety' Hopp struggled, he became the quarterback. Once Ratterman came to town in 47, Terlep went back to RB with spot duties passing. He played for Paul Brown at Great Lakes and then again during the 1948 season (after only a brief time with the Bills). He was part of the famous undefeated team of 1948, winning a championship against his former team: the Buffalo Bills. Overall, he was a decent player that could pretty much do anything for the team. He spent some time coaching after finishing his playing career.
  15. Another of the original Buffalo Bills passed away this week. George Terlep passed away on Monday. He played for the 1946-48 teams. One of the nicest guys you could meet. I was fortunate to have talked to him on several occassions over the past few years. Obituary RIP George. You will be missed.
  16. Rest in peace, my friend.
  17. He passed away January 28, 2000 in Irving, NY.
  18. It was amazing to hear about the outpouring of support for the team when it disbanded and the subsequent attempt to get into the NFL in 1950. I know this is a shameless plug, but since that team was special to you, I hope that you check out my book: The Original Buffalo Bills Thank you.
  19. Bill played for the 1949 Buffalo Bills of the All-America Football Conference. He had been sick for a while and was one of the toughest interviews I have ever done, due to his health. His daughter was one of the nicest people I have ever met and was very willing to help me get information on her father. Bill Stanton Stats There are only a few of the original Buffalo Bills left.
  20. Nice job, Lori!! Booker is a great guy. I always enjoy talking to him.

  22. I talked with him over the phone, so he didn't hold back. It breaks your heart, doesn't it? Unfortunately, stories like that are not uncommon among the older players.
  23. You have that right. We started talking about the retired players and he union with Gene Upshaw and the f-bombs went flying.
  24. Right now, the union is the biggest stumbling block to getting retired players more help. The league has actually done a lot and the commissioner wants to see more get done for the older players. They can still do much more, but the union is dragging their feet. As someone who spends a lot of time talking with retired players, this is something that is very important to me. I constantly hear their stories about their pain and suffering. There are also many players who have not collected a pension because they did not think that they were eligible. There is a lot of misinformation coming out of the NFLPA and the older players are suffering as a result.
