  8. Trump's lawyers keep getting in trouble with judges. Here are the 17 sanctioned so far. Seventeen different lawyers have been sanctioned over failed lawsuits brought on the former president's behalf. Their attempts include litigation seeking to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election and pushing a conspiracy theory blaming the Russia investigation on a smattering of Democratic party operatives. Many of Trump's lawyers, even if they are not sanctioned, end up needing lawyers of their own to ward off the worst consequences. https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-lawyers-sanctioned-by-courts-election-lawsuits-2022-12 Trumps dream team just keeps winning
  9. Biden pans McCarthy’s debt plan as ‘huge cuts’ to Americans But President Joe Biden swiftly swatted down the plan, which would cap much federal spending at increases of 1% a year, as requiring “huge cuts” to programs helping millions of Americans. https://apnews.com/article/speaker-kevin-mccarty-debt-ceiling-biden-1dd542c6c7acfc2287e68e6facae2be4 The debt ceiling is dangerous to fool with . The real fire works will be the next federal budget for House to pass with their GOP majority in control. Will likely end with stalemate with Senate. Continuing resolutions are temporary spending bills that allow federal government operations to continue when final appropriations have not been approved by Congress and the President. Without final appropriations or a continuing resolution (CR), there could be a lapse in funding that results in a government shutdown

  16. Unsealed documents from the Daniel Perry case show he made comments on social media about killing protesters and Muslims, Houston Chronicle reports As the Texas pardons board considers a request from Gov. Greg Abbott to pardon a man convicted last week of fatally shooting a protester at a Black Lives Matter rally, newly unsealed documents show the Army sergeant talked about killing people and shared racist comments on social media, the Houston Chronicle reported. The documents from the case against Daniel Perry contain messages and posts made over several years, the report said. They were originally filed March 27 and were unsealed by a Travis County judge Thursday, the Chronicle report said. CNN is working to obtain copies of the documents. In a Facebook message from May 2020, just weeks before the shooting, Perry told a friend he “might have to kill a few people” who were rioting outside his apartment, the Chronicle reported. The documents also contain a May 2020 text sent by Perry that said, “I might go to Dallas to shoot looters,” according to the Chronicle. Some messages included “white power” memes, the report said. Prosecutors argued Perry initiated the encounter by running a red light and turning into the crowd gathered at the protest. https://www.cnn.com/2023/04/14/us/daniel-perry-racist-comments-social-media/index.html Foster, who had been legally open carrying an AK-47, approached Perry's vehicle, and Perry shot and killed him. 18. Washington Post: Person behind leaked Pentagon documents worked on military base The leaker, described in the Post story as a lonely young man and gun enthusiast, was part of a chatroom of about two dozen people on Discord – a social media platform popular with video gamers – that shared a love of guns and military gear, The Post reported, citing an interview with the leaker’s friend who was also part of the group. The friend told the Post he would not reveal the identity of the alleged leaker or their location to authorities. The leaker, going by the moniker “OG,” began posting messages to the Discord chatroom last year that referenced military jargon, The Post reported. In the months that followed, the leaker posted messages in which he appeared to transcribe classified information from US documents, according to the report. “They were, he recalled, what appeared to be near-verbatim transcripts of classified intelligence documents that OG indicated he had brought home from his job on a ‘military base,’ which the member declined to identify,” the Post reported, referring to messages posted by the anonymous user. https://www.cnn.com/2023/04/13/politics/pentagon-leaked-documents-military-base/index.html https://www.foxnews.com/politics/leaker-classified-us-intelligence-works-military-base-posted-documents-discord-report maybe or maybe not

  20. Biden considering cracking down on gas cars after stripping EVs of tax credits The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is expected to announce the new standards, which will impact cars manufactured between 2027-2032, next week during a ceremony in Detroit, Bloomberg reported on Thursday, citing officials briefed on the proposal. In a statement, the EPA confirmed the standards are designed to incentivize consumers to purchase electric vehicles (EV). Overall, the average cost of an EV was $64,338 while the average cost of a compact gas-powered car was $26,101 as of last year, according to Kelley Blue Book Last year, meanwhile, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) unveiled new fuel economy standards that it said would boost fuel efficiency, but acknowledged it would cost automakers about $236.5 billion and eventually make cars $1,000 more expensive. The standards are projected to increase fuel efficiency 8% annually for model years 2024-2025 and 10% annually for model year 2026. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-considering-cracking-down-gas-cars-stripping-evs-tax-credits

  22. AI expert warns Elon Musk-signed letter doesn't go far enough, says 'literally everyone on Earth will die' Eliezer Yudkowsky writes that advanced AI will kill all sentient life on Earth and must be shut down An artificial intelligence expert with more than two decades of experience studying AI safety said an open letter calling for a six-month moratorium on developing powerful AI systems does not go far enough. "Many researchers steeped in these issues, including myself, expect that the most likely result of building a superhumanly smart AI, under anything remotely like the current circumstances, is that literally everyone on Earth will die," he asserts. "Not as in 'maybe possibly some remote chance,' but as in 'that is the obvious thing that would happen.'" https://www.foxnews.com/tech/ai-expert-warns-elon-musk-signed-letter-doesnt-enough-literally-everyone-earth-will-die
