DeSantis For President in 2024?
ALF replied to Trump_is_Mentally_fit's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
DeSantis underwhelms Britain’s business chiefs UK captains of industry lambast ‘low-wattage’ US presidential hopeful. But Republican presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis failed to impress British business chiefs at a high-profile London event Friday, in a tired performance described variously as “horrendous,” “low-wattage” and “like the end of an overseas trip.” One U.K. business figure said DeSantis “looked bored” and “stared at his feet” as he met with titans of British industry in an event co-hosted by Lloyd’s of London — the world’s largest insurance marketplace. A second business figure who was in the room said it was a “low-wattage” performance and that “nobody in the room was left thinking, ‘this man’s going places’.” They said: “It felt really a bit like we were watching a state-level politician. I wouldn’t be surprised if [people in attendance] came out thinking ‘that’s not the guy’.” https://www.politico.eu/article/ron-detedious-how-desantis-underwhelmed-britains-business-chiefs/ -
Billionaire investor Ray Dalio warns US, China 'on the brink' of war and 'beyond' ability to talk The Bridgewater founder issued grim warning over US-China relations after spending 13 days in Beijing "The United States and China are on the brink of war and are beyond the ability to talk," Dalio wrote. "I want to emphasize that by saying that they are on the brink, I don’t mean to say that they will necessarily go over the brink. I mean to say that they are very close to crossing red lines that, if crossed, will irrevocably push them over the brink into some type of war that damages these two countries and causes damage to the world order in severe and irrevocable ways—like Russia’s invasion of Ukraine did for Russia and the world, just much bigger." https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/billionaire-investor-ray-dalio-china-brink-war-beyond-ability-talk

For the then Afghan army to have any chance the US would have to keep air and logistic support there permanently with special forces . The US should have gone after Bin Laden 3 months max and never gone into Iraq .

Trump's lawyers keep getting in trouble with judges. Here are the 17 sanctioned so far. Seventeen different lawyers have been sanctioned over failed lawsuits brought on the former president's behalf. Their attempts include litigation seeking to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election and pushing a conspiracy theory blaming the Russia investigation on a smattering of Democratic party operatives. Many of Trump's lawyers, even if they are not sanctioned, end up needing lawyers of their own to ward off the worst consequences. https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-lawyers-sanctioned-by-courts-election-lawsuits-2022-12 Trumps dream team just keeps winning

Biden pans McCarthy’s debt plan as ‘huge cuts’ to Americans But President Joe Biden swiftly swatted down the plan, which would cap much federal spending at increases of 1% a year, as requiring “huge cuts” to programs helping millions of Americans. https://apnews.com/article/speaker-kevin-mccarty-debt-ceiling-biden-1dd542c6c7acfc2287e68e6facae2be4 The debt ceiling is dangerous to fool with . The real fire works will be the next federal budget for House to pass with their GOP majority in control. Will likely end with stalemate with Senate. Continuing resolutions are temporary spending bills that allow federal government operations to continue when final appropriations have not been approved by Congress and the President. Without final appropriations or a continuing resolution (CR), there could be a lapse in funding that results in a government shutdown

Bryce Young appears to be consensus No 1 pick to Panthers after bold move before NFL Draft Through the widespread speculation that the Panthers were going to select Young with their top pick, the 2021 Heisman Trophy winner reportedly canceled all of his remaining pre-draft visits to other NFL teams. This move seems to confirm to experts what they already thought: The Panthers have already told Young they will take him first overall on April 27. https://www.foxnews.com/sports/bryce-young-appears-consensus-no-1-pick-panthers-bold-move-nfl-draft

Governor Abbott seeking to pardon Daniel Perry
ALF replied to SCBills's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Unsealed documents from the Daniel Perry case show he made comments on social media about killing protesters and Muslims, Houston Chronicle reports As the Texas pardons board considers a request from Gov. Greg Abbott to pardon a man convicted last week of fatally shooting a protester at a Black Lives Matter rally, newly unsealed documents show the Army sergeant talked about killing people and shared racist comments on social media, the Houston Chronicle reported. The documents from the case against Daniel Perry contain messages and posts made over several years, the report said. They were originally filed March 27 and were unsealed by a Travis County judge Thursday, the Chronicle report said. CNN is working to obtain copies of the documents. In a Facebook message from May 2020, just weeks before the shooting, Perry told a friend he “might have to kill a few people” who were rioting outside his apartment, the Chronicle reported. The documents also contain a May 2020 text sent by Perry that said, “I might go to Dallas to shoot looters,” according to the Chronicle. Some messages included “white power” memes, the report said. Prosecutors argued Perry initiated the encounter by running a red light and turning into the crowd gathered at the protest. https://www.cnn.com/2023/04/14/us/daniel-perry-racist-comments-social-media/index.html Foster, who had been legally open carrying an AK-47, approached Perry's vehicle, and Perry shot and killed him. Perry claimed that he had acted in self-defense, but in April 2023, a jury found him guilty of murder. He was acquitted of an aggravated assault charge. Legal in Texas to open carry a AK-47 , what could go wrong -
I just hope the Bruins are not a dynasty just when the Sabres turn it around. Levi would have to be a good replacement for Linus Ullmark.

Democracy’s Fiery Ordeal: The War in Ukraine 🇺🇦
ALF replied to Trump_is_Mentally_fit's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Washington Post: Person behind leaked Pentagon documents worked on military base The leaker, described in the Post story as a lonely young man and gun enthusiast, was part of a chatroom of about two dozen people on Discord – a social media platform popular with video gamers – that shared a love of guns and military gear, The Post reported, citing an interview with the leaker’s friend who was also part of the group. The friend told the Post he would not reveal the identity of the alleged leaker or their location to authorities. The leaker, going by the moniker “OG,” began posting messages to the Discord chatroom last year that referenced military jargon, The Post reported. In the months that followed, the leaker posted messages in which he appeared to transcribe classified information from US documents, according to the report. “They were, he recalled, what appeared to be near-verbatim transcripts of classified intelligence documents that OG indicated he had brought home from his job on a ‘military base,’ which the member declined to identify,” the Post reported, referring to messages posted by the anonymous user. https://www.cnn.com/2023/04/13/politics/pentagon-leaked-documents-military-base/index.html https://www.foxnews.com/politics/leaker-classified-us-intelligence-works-military-base-posted-documents-discord-report maybe or maybe not
