If we were to trade up, when would it happen?
What a Tuel replied to bills6969's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think people forget this. The 4 qbs are not be equal in the eyes of any of the teams. They don't want Darnold or Rosen or Allen or Barkley, they want their guy. So if their guy is taken, then they may move to plan B and take a different player on their board. So the QBs may not go 1,2,3,5, like many are predicting. I still think the Bills need to move up so they can get their guy though. -

I am not sure what it would do to the poor fans if they went back on that after passing and botching it the last few years. -
The only reason they shouldn't do something like this is if they really do want to take a QB. Otherwise, snagging Clevelands 4, even at the cost of 2 means they net a bunch of picks, and STILL get the guy they wanted because Browns/Bills/Jets are going QB. Its a situation that works for everyone except the Browns may need a little sweetener cause Beckham won't be cheap.

Well then he's just the worst, and the Jets botched it like they always do! -

Exactly. Why highlight a player that a few teams have shown a desire to have? -

If anything it was the Glenn trade, most expected us to cut him before we paid him the bonus or pay him as an expensive backup. No one thought he was starting for us this year. No I don't think either trade cost us though. I think Beane had an opportunity to get it done, and he was either: A) was too slow B) Has some other plan up his sleeve C) Really is content with sticking with 12 and 22. -

No one knows one way or the other yet. For all we know the Giants are ok with Eli and want a day one starter and a 2nd round QB while they use up whats left of Eli. Or they want a QB. No one knows but them. -
You guys keep talking in circles. It wasn't impossible for us to trade to 7 or 8 and the Colts still get their guy. If Beane intended to do that then he failed because he was too slow, not because it was impossible like you are all implying. As for a 3 way trade: Bills pick #1 Browns pick #2 Giants pick #4 Browns end up with Bills 12th, and 22nd and next years 1st for moving back 1 spot, and losing #4. Giants end up with Bills 2018 2nd and 3rd rounders for moving back 2 spots. Bills get #1 for giving up 12, 22, 2018 2nd and 3rd, and 2019 1st Browns still get their QB, but they net 3 extra 1st round picks. Giants still get their guy because the Bills, Browns, Jets are taking QBs and net an extra 2nd and 3rd round pick this year. Bills get their choice of QB. What do I win?

So if Beane isn't able to get this done then you chalk it up to he was dealt a bad hand? Sorry if so many other GMs can do it, our GM should be able to as well. Especially since the Jets GM got it done with a Colts GM that had no reason to rush the trade like you said. I agree though it isn't over yet though. We have several more weeks to wait and see what happens.

I know you are joking but I don't think the idea is that just drafting them in the 1st round makes them successful. It is that the consensus first rounders are more successful. We don't have many surprise 1st round qb picks.

It was the damn trades at the start of free agency and then the Jets I tell you! They teased us way too early now we wait.

Article: One Team's Draft Board

Wouldn't said reporter have a known rapport with a specific team to be easily figured out? -
There are quite a few Giants fans on their board saying don't take a qb if you don't value the guy thats there. Of course they would have to botch that decision for it to work out for us but their fans seem content to ride Eli out. http://boards.giants.com/forum/new-york-giants-message-boards/talk-about-giants-football/3107977-how-do-you-build-around-a-37-year-old-exactly

4th may be the highest we can go.

Whatever happened to mods just merging similar threads? Like couldn't this just be seamlessly merged into the other threads? TwoBillsDrive is amazing, but I liked it better when you browsed a topic and read a conversation about it. Now it seems like I am browsing random personal thoughts. -
Philly was the one that gave up 2 players to Miami to move from 13 to 8 and then subsequently to 2. I agree, but I still see it as a failure of Beane not getting it done though. It stings a little bit more that it was a divisional opponent too. If we don't end up with a legitimate QB at the end of this, and the Jets start running the division, this will be remembered almost as well as the failure to trade up for Roethlisberger.

The Jets certainly got into the top 3 so no it wasn't impossible. I guess their message board whined harder? I love how its always impossible for the Bills to get it done, but all these other teams do it all the time. Eagles? Eh why not move up from 13th and grab Wentz. Rams? Eh why not move up from 15th and grab Goff. Now you'll say this year is different, but it really isn't. 3 of the top 4 teams in the draft weren't drafting a qb. (Browns weren't drafting 2, and Giants are borderline). If Beane liked any of the top 4 QBs he should have gotten it done. If they all flop then he will get credit for not giving away the farm for a bust, but if they are successful especially whoever the Jets pick, then its a huge black mark on his record for being stingy on a position that has haunted the Bills for close to two decades.
