I assumed that might be the case but I'm unfamiliar with what elected officials are/aren't allowed to accept when it comes to various junkets sponsored by donors.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if she would have needed to pay out of pocket for the trip to see her grandmother if there was no political purpose? I.E. did she also change her tune because it would potentially go from a taxpayer funded trip to one where she'd need to float the bill?

I've always felt the one thing I could take away from watching a preseason game was insight into our depth. It seems to me we have better depth in a number of areas than we've had in any recent years.

Yesterday, Jake Tapper was practically falling over himself to paint the Dayton shooting as being racially motivated based solely on the fact that 6 of the 9 victims were black. Must have been disappointed when they realized he was just a depressed nutjob that's been plotting to kill people for years and didn't have a political or racial agenda.

Fair point. I was referring to commercial impact, not residential.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not in favor of a downtown stadium, but have you been in that part of the City on a Sunday? I'm having trouble envisioning a negative impact on the current level of commerce.

Yeah deteriorating superstructure is a different concern altogether. If that were the driving factor in this conversation it would make more sense. It's a shame there is about 1000ft of residential track between the parking lots and the McKinley mall. If it were all fields they could convert that old dump to a hotel, retail space and other amenities and just connect via tram.

To this day, I still don't understand what our current stadium lacks beyond maybe a party area where people can congregate, grab some concessions and watch the game. In terms of actually serving it's purpose of being a functional venue for watching an NFL game it's most certainly adequate. What will a new stadium have that the current one doesn't, and of those offerings/amenities which could not be incorporated into the existing facility? I'm not sure I've ever heard a reasonable response to that.

If any of that was verifiable, remotely true and not just a whacky conspiracy theory (talking about the Qatar stuff, not the marriage/immigration shenanigans which seems to have some legitimacy) I'd imagine people like Trump and Hannity would be all over it.
