Marcell Dareus' thoughts on Rex Ryan's firing
Peter replied to Wayne Arnold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is funny and to the point. Thanks to both Bart Scott and Ross Tucker for being the voices of reason and not letting players get away with some of the BS. -
I always liked Rambo and it was sad to see the Dolphins sign him . . . especially given that we had to sign a safety about a week or two later.

Thank you for treating my post seriously and not dismissing it out of hand. -
Sully: Bills' bozos leave Lynn to twist on his own

Four minutes is enough time to get the ball back. The Bills defense stopped the Dolphins on the prior drive and the Dolphins took 2:19 off the clock. People have treated Rex's decision to punt as essentially insane and no other coach would have done the same thing. Yet, the other coach (who some here have praised) - in the same game on the preceding drive - decided to punt from OUR end of the field. Two of the criticisms were that we punted because we could not rely on our defense and we needed the win. Gase decided to punt even though the Dolphins defense gave up MORE yards than the Bills and the Dolphins needed two wins going into the game to control their own destiny. Although a tie would not eliminate them, they would need help from other teams and/or have to beat the Patriots in week 17. Going into the weekend, a tie would only clinch a playoff spot for the Dolphins in combination with a (1) loss by Baltimore; AND (2) a loss by Denver; AND (3) Houston loss or tie; or (4) a Tennessee loss or tie. Obviously, the Bills lost the game. There are a lot of reasons for the loss. These include, among other things, missed field goals, missed PI calls in the end zone, and missed tackles. The Bills fought back from being down to take the lead and lost to a good team by three points and should have won the game but for a missed field goal in OT and missed PI calls and tackles. But to many here and in the media, this game is known as the game where Rex was insane to punt the ball and no other coach or person who was not brain dead would have made the same decision. Nevertheless, with all due respect to the many here and in the media, the decision to punt was not as illogical or insane as many here and in the media think. I understand why a coach could decide to go for it or punt. If I had to make the call, I could have gone either way. Head coaches have to make tough calls. Gase and Rex made similar calls not knowing whether they would get the ball back in OT. Just my two cents. -
No, I do not have a recording of the call between LaCanfora and his source. Nevertheless, in my opinion, the source is Doug Whaley (or people close to him with his blessing) for the reasons previously stated. I am sure that explains whatever you want to call Gilmore's tackle. The Pegulas are probably the last people in the Bills' organization whom I would suspect as a source for Jason LaCanfora or the guys over at TBN. That is kind of like suggesting that Silent Stan Kroenke is a source or Arsene Wenger is an anonymous source for Duncan Castles. COYG

Sous Vide - Virgin Journey Today! Advice?
Peter replied to plenzmd1's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I got the Joule for Christmas. We are in Buffalo for Christmas and New Years so I have not used it yet. (We live in Miami). Chef Steps has a pretty cool website with recipes. For you sous vide experts: If I want to cook for a family of four (for example), should i put four steaks (chicken breasts, chops, filets etc.) in four separate bags or can I combine? I also have a Big Green Egg. I anticipate finishing steaks etc on the Egg (unless the weather is crappy). -
Bills defensive player: Rex firing "music to my ears"
Peter replied to Wayne Arnold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is an accurate statement about Ty Dunne . . . as well as the media in general. What a journalist, network, newspaper etc. decide to report is just as important as how it is reported. I took a course in high school that dealt with this. We compared the New York Times, Buffalo News, Washington Post and other papers each day. It was amazing to compare what was reported v. not reported, above or below fold, page one v. below the fold on page 23 etc. I remember watching CNN and Fox after Hurricane Katrina. One network focused on the devastation. The other focused on the looting. Same event. Both happened. Two very different coverages. One of the great things (and bad things) about the internet is that we are not limited by what the editors of the Buffalo News (or any other paper) consider to be news or how to report it. We have access to all kinds of outlets and viewpoints. I can go to Drudge, Huffington, Daily Beast, New York Times, Daily Beast, Daily Mirror to get my news. I can go to Twitter and connect with people around the word and be exposed to all different viewpoints and get links to stories that either are not reported here or have a different slant. With this comes responsibility. We need to consume information critically, take it all in, and try to draw intelligent conclusions or opinions etc. Ok, back to football. -

He got cut (after making statements trying to save his spot on the team - read contract). The Bills cut Mario. Not the other way around. -

You should read some of his tweets over the past few weeks. He already has spun. I actually think he is a great writer. He was a great catch for TBN and a great loss not too long after that. -

I don't know if they are, but i am. World Series ring. President of my two favorite sports teams. He gets paid for doing what we like to talk about in our spare time. Yes, I am jealous of Russ. -

Whatever you might think of Rex, Jerry had his issues with Marrone as well. I hope he plays like we know he can next year and stops some of the head case BS. -

Get a freaking sense of humor. So that was Gilmore's problem?!? Maybe he was trying to show how he plays when he is underpaid. Or Washington's problem on the Dolphin's first TD? -

When we have our new coach, I hope that some of these guys are able to tackle. I really do . . . for our sake and for the new HC and team. -

Whatever. I was responding to another post. God forbid that you should be forced to read something that does not totally agree with your view of the world (or in this case, your crusade). -
Season observations, this team is good.

I like your optimism. You have not been around here long enough to have it beaten out of you I see. Hold on to your optimism. I like it. -
Lorenzo did not have that many more than Mario last year, did he? Mario is done. He is being paid to sit on the bench even though the Dolphins run the scheme "made for him."

Whether you like or dislike Rex: How is it possible to believe this new leak about Rex supposedly telling the team we had no chance a few weeks ago. As recently as last week (when hardly anyone said we had a chance), Rex said for all the world to hear that we had a "puncher's chance"??? This does not pass the smell test. This seems like another leak to discredit Rex. As for the punting bit, so many people here and in the media trashed Rex for punting. I could defend either decision. It is ironic that the team that won the game and who gave up more yards than the Bills did on defense actually punted in OUR end of the field. -

Shady, Wood, and Incognito all were on the record before Rex was fired. -
You can have a quitter like Mario. I will take 11 guys like Lorenzo who puts in the effort and has some football smarts.

What did Whaley think about the winning coach punting in our end of the field? -
Lorenzo proved that a guy who no one else wanted to play defense could thrive in Rex's defense as long as you give some effort and have some football smarts.
-
I have no idea who wanted to cut him. That was not the reason for my post. Now that you brought it up though, who is the guy who incessantly would say that he was in charge of the 53 and Rex was in charge of the 46??? Based on what I saw from Cockerel and knowing that he is smart, he fit Rex's system more than the idiots who are admitting to Ty Dunne that they are stupid.
