Bills Announce Whaley to Lead the Head Coaching Search
Peter replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The idea that Doug Whaley was not all in on the Rex hire is revisionist history by some (including Whaley and his people). Nice try Brutus, oops, I mean St. Doug Whaley. This is from the Buffalo Bills website after the hire in which tWhaley went on about he and Rex could "complete" each other's sentences : Nevertheless Whaley was taken by how parallel Ryan’s approach to winning in the NFL was to his own principles of developing a perennial contender. “For me his philosophy on how to build a championship team, a consistent championship team is exactly the way I think a team should be built,” said Whaley. “It’s proven. This past postseason everybody was talking about the conference championship games and the four quarterbacks in there were unbelievable quarterbacks, but the common theme in both of those games was the running game. A running game and a defense is a quarterback’s best friend. And those types of teams consistently compete for championships. “I knew when he started talking about how he wanted to build a team and I could complete his sentences and he could complete mine in how we want the Buffalo Bills to look we were on the same page.” Not long after the interview with Ryan had concluded the Pegulas along with Brandon and Whaley had reached a consensus rather quickly. http://www.buffalobills.com/news/article-1/How-the-Bills-decided-on-Rex-Ryan-as-head-coach/aa1cc736-b6c4-4af7-bfe9-4aba573bf0fd -

Kirwan's conclusion is obvious. The move will not be received well by potential candidates: "But the Bills are not a stable situation, and as eager as they are to get it right, moves like this, added to an already unstable franchise, could give potential coaching candidates pause before considering a move to western New York." -
Good man. Bruce still had ties to Buffalo. RIP

Better yet, he could wrap it with a depiction of Whaley (as Brutus) stabbing Rex in the back.

The fix is in-- Lynn will be the new head coach

I used the Mularkey reference because he quit because he did not think he could work with Marv. Marrone works also. -
Roth: By firing Ryan, Pegulas got it half right and wrong

Will he execute a similar mortgage as the one he did when he drafted Sammy for EJ? -
Rex is gone, but a Thank You is in order
Peter replied to Thrivefourfive's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would thank him. I loved the way he embraced the community and was so familiar with Bills history and the Sabres etc. I know these guys (every NFL coach) work their freaking arses off and give up a lot of family time to do so. -

To be clear, the Bills Front Office would claim continuity. I am making a prediction. We will see if I am correct. Again, I think Doug Whaley (and sadly the Pegulas) have made the job unattractive to anyone who may be in demand for the reasons Bedard mentioned. Unless they overpay or make some promises etc, I just do not see where a top tier candidate chooses this job over others. Why would someone come here if the Bills do not have a QB and fired the prior guy after less than two years with so many injuries etc. Just my two cents. I hope I am wrong. -

What did he say? I used to love Polian and thought that firing him was the biggest mistake in Bills history. Yet, he made some comments previously that showed he was out of touch. Enjoy being in the Hall of Fame and being part of the chattering class Bill. -

He was fired by San Diego and is with the Eagles but does not call the plays (if I recall correctly) -

I think that the chances that A. Lynn is going to be the next head coach are 95%. This partly due to the fact that he seems like a good guy, had a successful running game, liked by players, allows them to claim "continuity" AND The Bills have made the job an unattractive job (for reasons I previously posted) and it is not likely that they could attract anyone else who may be worthwhile and in demand (unless substantially overpay or someone is desperate). Good luck Coach Lynn. Go Bills! P.S. A wildcard may be Lynn himself. I wonder if he pulls a Mularkey and decides to move on. I suspect that is not the case, but it could happen if he has other opportunities and he does not think that he would receive the support of the front office or enough time to succeed. -

They apparently bought what he is selling. I think that are great and love them for what they have done for Buffalo, the Sabres, and the Bills. I have the highest regard for the both of them and their family. Having said all of that, I dislike this decisions immensely. -
Bucky: Rex takes fall, but Bills' problems start at the top
Peter replied to Rico's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Am I a bad person because I initially just saw the first and sixth words of this post? Sorry Bucky, as much as I think you are one of the worst sports writers in the history of sports as well as writing (not to mention humanity) I do not wish ill on you. May you and Sully live a long and happy life together pretending that you guys knew it all along and are smarter than everyone else. -

Although I thought that we gave up too much for Sammy, I was never an advocate of getting rid of him until I suspected him of throwing Rex under the bus to save himself. This troubled me. I would never want someone in my organization who was not loyal. -

I agree. They know exactly where Whaley was in their house and their yacht during the Rex meetings and whether he supported the Rex hire. -
I wonder if the players themselves will end up giving the same amount of effort that Mario did last year or Gilmore on that "tackle."

No NFL conspiracy but it certainly did not help against the Dolphins to have two blatantly missed PI calls in the end zone. Of course, I never expected that the anti Rex crowd would choose to remember those (or the missed tackles that led directly to TDS). That would interfere with the narrative. -

He ran or pushed two out the door. I also do not buy that he was not all in on Rex. -

I have been through this already. I will let you forget about the injuries and suspensions and having to play street free agents or guys not tackling (having nothing to do with scheme) or Mario going on strike. -

The funny thing is that if the Doug Whaley "chooses" Anthony Lynn he will have to thank Rex given that Rex already chose him for the organization. P.S. I do not believe the revisionist history about Whaley not wanting Rex two years ago. All we heard was about how aligned their football philosophies were. I wonder if Doug was afraid that -
The Pats have some huge advantages: 1) Bill Belichick 1a) Tom Brady 3) 1 and 1a allow them to not have to deal with the same salary cap issues as we have to.

The Pegulas ensured that the past two years were wasted. I believe they foolishly took the advice of people who were responsible for more than the past few years. i also was more optimistic about what the future would hold with Rex and without the injuries etc. I am pissed off about what happened and am not looking forward to feeling the same way I felt after guys like Greggo and St. Doug were hired. -
Under the salary cap?

We can disagree about Rex. Fine. But if you are only going to give a coach LESS THAN two years - do not hire him in the first place. This was BS. I hate doing this every few years. -
I think that TBN and the rest of the Buffalo media already have reported that new Bills HC Coachy McCoachy already is on the hot seat. There are new standards. If the Bills do not qualify for the playoffs after the first 6 games of season number 1, the direct dial between OBD and Jason LaCanfora will heat up.
