  1. Does this mean he won’t run crossers, too?
  2. So true. That’s what I meant when I said there are right ways and then better ways to do things. Honorably is always the better way in my book.
  3. Appreciate the clarification. Wood used a poor choice of words by saying “five days from ...” vs saying “five days removed...”
  4. So the answer to my hypothetical is “spare me the touch feely.” Got it. I am of the opinion that little is lost on players on the team and around the league. There are right ways and better ways to do things. As for that cap space, it certainly was already allocated to begin with when they signed Wood to the deal. Now it’s “found money”and I get that it’s an asset to be used strategically. Perhaps they can free up that cap space in another way.
  5. I’m not conspiring; Wawrow reported it. And I’m not aware of the cap ramifications other than the post June 1st scenario. If the amount Wood pays back is then added back to the cap, I’ll reconsider my stance. You are out of line regarding the negative Nelly take as my 22 years in this community can attest. Hypothetical: is that $3m or whatever it is cap space more valuable than the good will and reputation curried by taking care of one of you own? Does taking care of one of your own get noticed by other players on the team and around the league?
  6. Blasphemy! Turn in your fan card immediately.
  7. Retiring to Belgium I presume?
  8. If the Bills are asking for ANY portion of his bonus in return, regardless of their expressed legal right to do so, it is a BUSH LEAGUE MOVE of the highest order. They signed Wood and gave him that bonus with the expectation that he would play out the remaining two years; it was already an expected cost and they were happy to incur it for a player of Wood's caliber, not to mention his leadership and example of the "football character" McD banks on. Yeah, it sucks that an unforeseen medical condition will force him to retire before he the contract expires, but that's as far is it should go. I don't understand given Pegula's seeming little concern about what it takes to sign players, coaches, etc. Hard to swallow when this team was glad to pay Marrone, Schwartz, Ryan, etc. multi-millions of dollars NOT to earn their respective deals through performance. You take care of Wood, regardless. Period.
  9. I think it would have been easier to put him on injured reserve before the public announcements that he has been medically barred from playing football.
  10. I agree. “Waived-injured” and “physically unable to perform” carry entirely different connotations than “retired” and offer different cap relief scenarios as well. Since Friday, everyone has been discussin cap ramidfications in terms of retirement only. Bills are being smart here.
  11. Gotta believe he will be a rostered player until at least June 1st.
  12. What are the options to retirement if he is not cleared to play due to an irreparable medical condition that precludes him from doing so?
  13. In public statements, he has been medically barred from playing. Literally not cleared. Hard to play games with the league given that declaration.
  14. He sustains the first two stingers of his career in a short time span in mid season and they are content with an X-ray vs. the more detailed and revealing MRI received post season? Hmm.
  15. It’s all plan A.
  16. It’s not the lack of pro style offenses these college QBs run so much as it’s the lack of variety in the defenses they see on a week to week basis that makes them utterly incapable of readily being able to recognize and beat the array of pro defenses they see in the NFL. When a spread QB sees little more than quarters coverage every week, he’s just not gonna hit the ground running in the pro. And that’s before taking into considersation the sheer superiority of the athletes on the defenses they face in the NFL.
  17. Was just going to ask if he had return ability. That added value will help his chances compared to other prospects at the position.
  18. 50% less likely to get called for defensive holding. I take a flyer on that basis alone.
  19. If he’s healthy, he stays. It’s a no brainer to keep a quality OT and get your best five on the field.
  20. As I alluded to in the college football forum, the best quote from that article was, “If you can see the guy open, you’re late. You have to anticipate it.” Such a simple concept and yet the hardest for QBs to understand.
  21. I’d add Butler, who left us in cap hell, Donahoe, and Greg Williams who thought nothing of dismantling a top defense because he could “stop the run with numbers.”
  22. Won’t move the needle much at all, especially compared to how he did in interviews during the week. The game is secondary to what occurs during the week. One reason team personnel go home after the last practices and player availability for interviews has past. I’m sure a segment of fans and media will be swayed, though. But that matters even less.
  23. “If you see the guy open, you’re too late.” Perhaps the single most consice explanation of a QB’s challenge as a passer in the NFL.
