Josh's passing stats for 2019 aren't as bad as many people think.

I laugh because as I explained in my answer “intangibles” and other non passing aspects are valued more than other attributes, Beane implies this in your posted article, and yet you ask the question why would they trade up and spend so much on a project. And then you see fit to post yet more stats to say Allen sucks. On one hand you appreciate attributes unrelated to passing the ball and on the other you seem to dismiss them as not important. As I said, there’s a difference between being a quarterback and being a passer. We will know soon enough about Josh Allen. In the meantime, while it may be amusing, it’s meaningless to project his career path based on what other QBs have done in their first two years. But his trajectory since his senior year in high school has done nothing but rise. There’s reason to believe that will continue based on his history as he acquires more experience at the position. -

The intangibles? The world is littered with rifle armed QB prospects who could make every throw but didn’t have a clue about being a QB. In speaking to GMs and scouts over the years, they list “intangibles” like intelligence more highly than accuracy. And not for nothing, Beane and Co., in their exhaustive research on Allen during the scouting process, had to know better than anyone about Allen’s atypical route to the NFL and the steady upward improvement he has shown in his command of the position. Easy to understand why they think his trajectory would keep arcing upward. -

Let’s not act like Craig Bohl is some QB producing machine or the his schools are QB factories. And again, Wentz’s relative experience exceeded that of Allen’s. -

You’d have to ask Beane and co. for specifics, but I imagine part of it is that they understand the difference between being a quarterback and being a passer. The latter may be improved upon and we’ve seen that, if only incrementally so far. The former is something you either have or you don’t and Allen has shown he possesses those innate qualities. -

Not so much serious as less dismissive of relevant experience factors when comparing Allen’s first two years to the first two years of a list of other QBs going back 10 years. If all things were equal, perhaps that comparison would have more credibility, but as it is, it’s lacking because it assumes all the QBs on that 10 year list were as disadvantaged entering the NFL as Allen was. Allen has defied the odds since his senior year of high school, his trajectory continues to point up, and he’s still a greenhorn relative to other QBs with two years under their belts. -

You guys laugh, but it reveals a real lack of insight into the world of elite QB development. That relative lack of experience at the position is a major disadvantage to those who’ve been groomed for the position since high school. By most standards, Josh Allen shouldn’t even have had a chance to play in a lesser D1 college conference, let alone get drafted by an NFL team, let alone become the 7th overall pick in the draft. His learning curve is as atypical as it gets. -
Not my point at all. It’s great that they saw an opportunity and were able to capitalize on that stock sale. It just strikes me as not having much faith in the long term company success, much of which hinges on the success of their vaccine development at the moment. What I believe is that we simply disagree on the significance of Moderna’s press release.

When you told me they released “actual data” I took it to mean much more than it actually was, which was nothing more than trumpeting their Phase 1 “lowest bar” result in only 8 of the 45 test subjects. To me, “actual data” should carry far more significance. I’m not alone in that opinion. https://www.statnews.com/2020/05/19/vaccine-experts-say-moderna-didnt-produce-data-critical-to-assessing-covid-19-vaccine/ https://www.forbes.com/sites/alexandrasternlicht/2020/05/19/scientists-raise-questions-about-moderna-vaccine-in-market-shaking-report/#389e2a7e2136 And I just can’t shake the orchestration of the entire press release when top execs sell $30m in stock after the announcement on Monday. On the heels of such a limited result in a phase 1 trial? I know I’m skeptical, but that begs questions. Give me less market manipulation and more substance.

I don’t doubt Moderna’s ability or that of Moncef Slaoui and I’m sorry you think my skepticism is an attack on either. It’s not. Just don’t tell me that what they released in that press announcement amounted to much of anything in terms of actual shared study results. It was very little at best. They are in pregame warmups and some people seem to think they have a huge lead in the 4th quarter. Not saying you’re one of those people as I suspect you know better, but in this atmosphere of needing to glom on and cling to ANY ray of hope, there is no shortage of people who will seek to exploit that. I’m tired of people blowing smoke up our collective asses.

Companies can’t help but be involved. We NEED them to be involved. Don’t misunderstand my intent here. I don’t dismiss them, I simply demand a qualified, independent confirmation from reputable sources. Common sense indeed. I’m skeptical of Moderna for many of the same reasons outlined in this article: https://abcnews.go.com/US/science-press-release-sudden-rise-vaccine-developer-moderna/story?id=70814887 A company given $483m in April? A 33% increase in stock price immediately upon the press release? One of its Board members named the new national “vaccine czar?” I wish them all the luck in the world and hope everything about their quick development of a vaccine comes to pass. But after seeing previously touted pharma companies come up short after the hype, like Abbott and their tests for example, I think it’s short sighted to put much stock into anything these companies say until proven true.

I appreciate the effort here. But my point is that we are so breathlessly awaiting even a whiff of good news on the treatment front that we lose sight of the process and what it involves. My concern is that in the great and urgent rush to get there, that the treatment arena turns into the free for all, forget the oversight rules the FDA adopted for testing. Published data results or not, Moderna and other manufacturers are the last source I will rely on when it comes to assessing the promise of their own products. Some may call that cynical, but it’s really just common sense. And Wall Street is so utterly detached from reality, it doesn’t matter what floats that boat or not.

None of the QBs on that list going back 10 years even comes close to the lack of grooming and inexperience at the position that Allen had coming into the league. Not one. From middle school to high school to college to the pros, they were all leap years ahead of Allen in their development at the position. -
Who Were The Leaks at One Bills Drive during 2013-2016?
K-9 replied to Phil The Thrill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Berchtold was a sieve. Look no further than that. He was way out of line, too, like when he leaked that a major Bills sponsor who had just agreed to have Fred Jackson appear in an upcoming ad campaign was not gonna be happy that Whaley let him go. As if teams need to consult their marketing department when it comes to player personnel decisions. -

So, the guarantee gets voided, but he can still earn the salary, regardless, right? If that’s true, then we will have a highly motivated player upon his return. I like what I’ve seen from a motivated Oliver to this point. Losing his starting job last year lit a fire under his ass.

Pegulas won’t like this at all. It’s just a matter of time before Oliver is traded to the St. Louis Blues.
