It’s not a question of being judgmental. It’s a question of zero tolerance for destructive behavior. Period. Adults who practice racism don’t deserve autonomy, they deserve to be exposed and called on it. Anything less is tantamount to condoning the behavior. Perhaps you’re right that at some point they will be alone. When? How long will that take? How many will be hurt in the meantime? And thought police aren’t necessary. They make themselves known by words and actions. If they kept these thoughts to themselves, perhaps I’d feel differently.

Greater wisdom is found in learning from your mistakes, seeking forgiveness, and being forgiven.

Let’s give Tre White some credit for possibly being able to accept Fromm’s apology before assuming Fromm’s mere presence is enough to fracture this team.

It’s great that you had those relationships and that you’d give your life for your brothers regardless of race, creed, etc. There is nothing more honorable imo. But as I said earlier today, it’s not enough to simply not be a racist. Real change will only happen when we become “anti-racists” and that means zero tolerance when we hear it or witness it. That might mean telling friends to STFU, asking bigoted relatives to leave on Thanksgiving, etc. Not being racist is too comfortable and convenient for us. When we don’t actively stand up when we see and hear it, we are complicit in the exercise of it.

Earlier I referenced Brees’s douchebaggery during the 2011 CBA negotiations when Joe D classified Brees as a “POS.” This bit adds to the reasoning.

Fair enough. Apologies for the snark previously. Go Bills indeed!

Dying to call you a racist? Not at all. In the cursory research I’ve done, it seems BLM’s desire to defund police is a bit misguided as it would exacerbate some of the systemic community issues they wish to address. But some of the reasoning is understandable on the surface as some of the policies they originally advocated for and have seen adopted since their inception like training initiatives and body cams haven’t resulted in the kind of across the board improvement in the lessening of the brutality they’d like to see. It’s no coincidence that this demand to defund comes on the heels of a cold blooded murder at the hands of four police officers when tensions are at their highest. What is your take on the term, “black lives matter?” Do you see it as exclusionary?
-
If you haven’t researched it enough, what is your point about the emails you received regarding defunding the police? My snark stems from you inserting BLM into a conversation about Kaepernick when I never brought them up, just to make a political point. It’s also a product of me not believing that it’s an organization you don’t detest.
-
First of all, the question pertains to Kaep and his response to wearing pig socks. That said, and in an effort to address the larger political question regarding BLM and defunding police: have you researched why they hold this view? I haven’t as yet. Just wondering if you’ve fully acquainted yourself with their reasoning or just don’t care to because they’re an organization you detest. Detesting something makes it very difficult to learn about. Or does a visit to a website make you an authority on everything an organization stands for?

Gandhi’s take on the golden rule never gets old.

Remains to be seen, but Fromm took the necessary first step.

Speaks well of Fromm and the Bills for giving him the opportunity.

I’m not referring to those monuments in the context of the historical racism they may or may not represent. Not at all. I’m referring to their being commissioned in the first place. I would argue that it’s not Kaepernick who is doing the disconnecting. It’s the rest of us who project our own personal meaning, outrage, or acceptance onto his act. There’s a certain psychological phenomenon at play. But that also is another topic I don’t have the time or inclination to discuss.

With all those blind and deaf women out there? I can’t believe that!
-
Was he talking about all cops or just the rogue ones or not? Jesus F ing Christ! Move the goalposts on someone else who actually might be interested in your brand of intellectual dishonesty. You aren’t worth any more of my time at this point.

Should a symbol ever mean more than the right of the people it represents? Yeah, we have a problem with symbols in this country alright. I refuse to comment on the rest of your post. But I will recommend visiting the great libraries and state houses of the South and researching letters, news articles, speeches, etc., made by confederate leadership both before, during, and immediately after the Civil War.
-
Nice deflection. You hate Colin Kaepernick. Just leave it at that and move on. You are incapable of honest discussion on the matter.
-
That was part of it, certainly. Here’s an excerpt from Reid’s article that I linked: The outrage is all about our tribal politics. On September 1, 2016. "I wore these socks, in the past, because the rogue cops that are allowed to hold positions in police departments, not only put the community in danger, but also put the cops that have the right intentions in danger by creating an environment of tension and mistrust. I have two uncles and friends who are police officers and work to protect and serve ALL people. So before these socks, which were worn before I took my public stance, are used to distract from the real issues, I wanted to address this immediately."
-
You need to justify your outrage by painting with large brushes. Simple as that. The fact you can’t accept a direct explanation from those who took part in a protest you found distasteful is proof of that. You NEED to project your own intentions rather than accept, from the person himself, the why of it all. But I understand. Evolved thinking often requires us to confront uncomfortable realities in ourselves. You’re killing it today!
-
Be honest with myself?
-
Perhaps Eric Reid can explain it better: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/25/opinion/colin-kaepernick-football-protests.html
-
You can pretty much buy any product with the flag on it, including toilet paper. But purists will argue these aren’t the flag, just images, so it’s not disrespectful. Desecration only applies to actual flags. Including those made in China and other foreign lands.
-
My question is, why can’t you take Kaepernick’s and others’ explanation for why they took a knee?
-
Poor fashion sense? The socks are merely an extension of his protest. Pretty simple. Now I understand that we want to paint those socks as insulting the proverbial 99.9% of the great policemen and women who serve and protect their communities on a daily basis and I get why. And that’s not necessarily unfair given the lack of context. But he was referring to corrupt cops and if we’re being intellectually honest, we can admit that. And when I see a cop like Chauvin and three other cops murdering someone in cold blood, I think those socks are an insult to pigs more than anything else.
