Melvin Ingram lays down Super Bowl guarantee
eball replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Chargers may have the most talented roster in the AFC. They are absolutely contenders. I’m still disgusted by how poorly they were prepared for the Pats*** in the playoffs. One of the worst playoff performances in recent memory. Is that on Lynn? -
Yep, they're doing the minimal required until the contract is done. Since I don't live up there it doesn't matter to me either way, but I completely understand wanting to keep camp in Orchard Park given what they've done to enhance the facilities there.

Josh Allen: Film Review From a Cynical Man
eball replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I appreciate the intent and effort of the OP but unfortunately threads like this merely devolve into arguments and insults by people who feel the need to "be right." We'll find out whether Josh Allen is the QB we all want him to be soon enough. Some fans are optimistic, some are not. -

There are certain posters on this forum who have never acknowledged their takes were wrong on any issue. And I assure you none of them are batting 1.000. The pseudo-anonymity of a forum like this unfortunately brings out the worst in some people. -

I'm putting this out here, not just for you, but for everyone "worrying" that Josh might not tear it up in training camp: Perspective -

And I doubt they will. The defense is going to be ahead of the offense all summer and there will be much consternation on this board. I'm looking at the bigger picture; namely, that practicing against the Bills' very good defense will provide Josh with the preparation he needs, so that when the regular season hits he and the offense will be "ready." I think we're going to see a good bit of struggles from the offense early on; the key will be not to overreact and to allow all of these new pieces to gel. -
I like your optimism, Montoya. Even better, it is grounded in a good bit of factual reasoning rather than just "we should be great!" I believe the defense will be significantly ahead of the offense the entire summer. I predict much hand-wringing during training camp about how Josh is not "lighting it up" but the truth is that the Bills' defense is very good. By the time the regular season hits, my hope is that the offense has been "sharpened" by practicing against their own defense and as a result, Josh will be prepared for whatever an opponent throws at him.

The "professionals" miss on their evaluations of QBs all the time. Believe me, I do understand the perspective that Buffalo needed a franchise QB when McD was hired -- I myself wondered if they might draft Watson or Mahomes -- but neither guy was a "can't miss" prospect. Instead of criticizing McD in hindsight for not selecting one of those guys, how about congratulating KC and Houston for seeing something others didn't? Again -- this "debate" is about differing opinions concerning how McD (and then Beane) chose to go about breaking down and then building up the Bills. Many see the success of Mahomes and Watson and say "could have, should have" while others see the overall roster building and aren't playing the 20/20 hindsight game. They are two different approaches and I, for one, am not going to sit back and bemoan every TD pass Mahomes throws and complain that "he should've been a Bill." I truly hope Allen becomes the QB we all deserve so this can be put to rest. -
Marquis Goodwin Wants to Compete in 2020 Olympics

I think you miss my point. I absolutely respect his desire to chase his dream. At the same time, I can be glad he's not doing something that almost certainly interferes with him being the best football player he can be (for my favorite team). -

Yup. Remember the reports out of KC last summer that Mahomes was throwing six picks in practice? -

Ditto. And coincidentally, I'm also glad he's no longer a Bill so we don't have to worry about whether or not football is his priority. -

Here's where I slightly disagree...it was not universally accepted that Mahomes (or Watson) would be a franchise QB. After Trubisky there was an extremely wide disparity of opinion as to when (and who) the next QB would be taken. I can't call a decision to trade down in that scenario for a new HC a horrible mistake when such judgment would be rendered completely based upon hindsight. On that basis, 31 teams made "the biggest mistake in franchise history" five times over the year Brady was drafted. -

I'm not "praising" anything...I'm respecting a successful draft. There are differing opinions as to whether McD should have targeted a QB or whether his plan was to look towards the 2018 draft. He obviously felt as though he could make do with Tyrod as the bridge. Others have noted that perhaps McD was not comfortable going after a QB based upon Whaley's scouting. It was a different strategy, and hopefully it worked out with Allen. -

No matter the draft, hitting on four of your top five picks is outstanding regardless of whom you "wish" they drafted. That's just an empirical fact. -

If "Billsy" means a top 5 CB, starting WR, starting LB, and starting LT -- hitting on 4 of 6 picks -- I hope their drafts continue to be "Billsy" for years to come! -

What I read suggested that Singletary slipped. Again, I saw nothing about Allen missing "simple swing passes" and I believe the "accuracy" narrative on Josh has led many to overanalyze every stinking throw, which is ridiculous. Every player on the roster is subject to critique. I'll reserve mine for when it actually seems appropriate. -

Settle down, Ethan. This post seems a bit out of place, as I have yet to read a single thing from the media about Josh missing on "simple swing passes" this Spring. -
Bills could face Daniel Jones week 2

Seriously people? This is typical player and coach speak. Every backup always says the goal is to be as ready as if they were starting, and every coach says every backup needs to prepare as if they were starting. Talk about making mountains from molehills. -

I'll tell you at what point you don't say it -- when the current "regime" has only been in place for two seasons, one of which ended a 17-year playoff drought, and when the roster has been completely reshaped to fit their vision. It would be absurdity to claim things "aren't working" at the end of the 2019 season unless the team stays reasonably healthy and yet still fails to improve upon last year's W-L record. I've said in this and other threads that the 2019 season should not be viewed as "playoffs or bust." If they make notable improvement on offense, eliminate bad losses, and finish at least .500 the "process" is working. You don't give a new coach and GM the power to turn over the roster and then usher them out before the players/coaches they brought in have a reasonable opportunity to gel. -
I agree that the US women looked like idiots celebrating goals like that after the match was long over. Won’t sadden me if they lose this thing.

My takeaway from all of this is that Kyle Lowry is a pretty solid dude. First, he handled himself extremely well after the shoving incident at GS. Then, he implored the crowd last night not to cheer Durant's injury. Just a good guy.

The Gase/Greggggg dynamic will wind up being toxic. I doubt seriously that Greggggg respects Gase one iota.

This is an excellent interview and has our new receivers coach Chad Hall looking like a visionary of sorts for how he understands slot receivers need to be coached differently. I'm excited that Beasley is all in Josh's ear, constantly, so that those two can be on the same page. I understand all coaches and players act as though their new environment is going to be the best thing since sliced bread, but Beasley has an edge and is looking to stick it to Dallas and everyone else. I like players with a big chip on their shoulder and we've got a number of them (including our QB).

5 Buffalo Bills under most pressure to perform in 2019
eball replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I want McD to improve on gameday as well but I think you'll find that in general, a coach's likelihood to take more chances on offense is directly related to his confidence in the offense. Did you have confidence in the offense last year? If you answer that question in any way other than "hell, no" you're not being honest. I don't really believe McD is a "conservative" guy who wants to win defensive struggles. We'll get a chance to find out now that the offense is in its second year under the same system and Josh has had a full year of growth.
