2017 revisited...McDermott or ALynn for HC??
eball replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And that, truly, is the point. The topic was started as a tongue-in-cheek jab at those who have been overly critical of McDermott while lamenting letting ALynn "get away" but nearing the end of the 3rd season for each the two organizations are trending in decidedly different directions. You are always going to see the stubborn, living-in-the-past "McD should have drafted Mahomes" people roaming the board, ignoring that not every team had that QB rated so highly and even the Chiefs sat him for a year. I think Lynn did a decent job his first two seasons guiding a talent-laden team into the playoffs, however beginning with their horrible preparation for the Pats*** in the playoffs last season they've been a real schitt show. Regardless of who you wanted at the time, if you are not a McD fan at this point you simply have an axe to grind. -
I don't recall such a situation but I may be forgetting something. In any event, I believe McD has taken strides forward (like the rest of the team) in his gameday and clock management. Some will argue he is too conservative at the end of first halves but his use of TOs to assess what another team is doing (either on offense or defense) at key moments has been brilliant. It has been mentioned by numerous commentators/analysts over the past several weeks now that Buffalo is getting national exposure.

Sometimes you start a thread and get everything you hoped for...some around here are so predictable. -

This was confirmed long ago. "Don't let him leave the building." -

This is an incredibly insightful comment, and one I have also considered over the past couple of seasons. It literally took a train wreck like Rex to wake the Pegulas up, but thankfully they did. Unbelievably there are still some on this board who believe the Bills should have kept rolling with the roster of losers and "me first" players Whaley and Rex created. -

Actually Lynn took the L in Buffalo. He is 26-20 in SD/LA. -
Ed Oliver Hustle plays - Baldinger Breakdown

Another example of McD pushing the right buttons. Taking away the "starting" position and limiting snap counts through the middle of the season sent the right message and Ed has responded. -

Asking for a friend. Interesting to note: their career W-L records are very similar: Lynn: 26-21 RS, 1-1 PS (1/3 playoff berths) McD: 25-21, 0-1 (2/3 playoff berths)

Search the archives of TSW from this season alone and you'll find a lot of folks who don't pay attention.

I'm a Bills fan who thinks it's ok to dislike Gilmore for his seeming disinterest his last season in Buffalo, and also to recognize he is an elite CB. If the Bills had paid to keep Gilmore they wouldn't have drafted White, and who knows what would have happened from there? As it turns out, the Bills got a guy who is both an elite CB and an engaging, charismatic individual who obviously loves being in Buffalo. I'd say both teams are ok with the end results.

Bills top 10 in offensive explosive plays

3rd down Josh is almost as good as 4th quarter Josh. They're both studs though. -

I'd like to see the delta b/t explosive plays for and explosive plays against. I bet the Bills are top 5 leaguewide. -

I dig the GMFB crew on NFLN. They really seem to try to give every story/team/player the attention they deserve. They have talked about Buffalo all season long.

Thin skinned? I'm stating a case that Collinsworth has a bias against Josh Allen. It's obvious to most who watched and listened. Doesn't "affect" me either way, just stating facts. I think Collinsworth is a douche because of his personality.
-
I am not "sensitive" -- I am merely pointing out that Collinsworth has a bias against Josh Allen and will take any opportunity to confirm that bias. I don't like him as an analyst, PERIOD, because he panders to certain interests and is not particularly enlightening. I have watched very little SNF because of that fact. I was forced to listen to him this past weekend because my favorite team was playing. Yes, he said many nice things about the defense, the coach, John Brown, and the GM, but the only thing he wanted to say about Josh was to point out his problems. Case in point -- why did Collinsworth not say anything regarding Josh's 4th quarter QB rating and comebacks? That would have been great stuff, and perfectly appropriate under the circumstances. Once again, you have gone so 180 degrees away from being a "fan" that you yourself are overly sensitive when fans take umbrage with how the team or its' players are characterized by the media.

It was solid QB play. Josh looked left at the trips set to pull defenders away, then came back and fired a bullet right on Kroft's chest. There was no reason for the analyst doing the game not to comment on how Josh was effective.

I just re-watched the sequence leading up to and following the Bills' go-ahead TD, and anyone who doesn't think Collinsworth has an axe to grind about Josh just wasn't paying attention. On 2nd and 9 from the 15 Collinsworth waxes poetic about how "so many teams try to come to Pittsburgh and win the game; you have to "not lose" the game..." Just before the TD pass on 3rd down: "I don't think you're gonna see the Bills being crazy aggressive...they love their defense, they would love a lead right now in the 4th quarter." After the TD pass, Collinsworth says nothing other than "go figure" and then recaps the routes run by the Bills. At NO time does he credit Allen with the perfectly thrown pass to Kroft. Watch it yourself. Collinsworth is a douche.

Well, we've gone from "just happy to be here" to demanding specific time slots in a hurry, haven't we!
