  1. Funny, I was seriously thinking that (two hand touch) while watching the game. At least for the QB. The NFL really ruined this event IMO. The obvious #1 issue, is that the game is BEFORE the super bowl, meaning the best players in the league are automatically excluded (This also has the effect of about 10 extra players getting a pro-bowl invitation on their resume, lowering the meaning of it). They also are sandwiching an awful, meaningless game in between the 2 most important weeks of the season. Then they top it off what is a step below backyard football. I feel bad for the defensive ends in the pro-bowl, they take 2 steps off the line then just stand there until the play is over. It's awful, and completely un-watchable. I tuned out after the 1st quarter. It was even worse after having watched the NHL all-star game directly before, which is actually entertaining. The NHL has it right, and makes an exciting event to watch IMO...The NFL should just can this game as far as I'm concerned...
  2. I dislike Brady as much as anyone, but the guy didn't "slam the Buffalo area", he just said the hotels aren't that great (which is true). He even apologized for it afterwards, and gave some credit to the Bills. I live in Albany, and travel to Buffalo frequently for both work and Bills games. Let's be honest here, the Buffalo hotel's are mostly pretty bad with a few mediocre exceptions. Buffalo isn't exactly a "posh vacation get away", so the Hotels are made to suit their biggest customers. Traveling workers and sports fans, not high end celebrities. I'm just not a big fan of stories that are extremely exaggerated based on a few comments off of the top of ones head, with no apparent I'll will intended.
  3. According to Gailey, he pretty much awarded the MLB job to Sheppard, meaning Barnett will almost certainly be playing weakside LB. Zack Brown also looks like a weakside LB type. I'd be shocked if the Bills took him with the 10th pick in the draft. They need a pass rushing DE, a strong side OLB, a WR, and maybe an OT. Yes they say Brown can play both positions, but the guy is 5-10 220, he makes Coy Wire seem like Ray Lewis. Sorry if I have my doubts... I just don't see him being a top 10, or even 20 pick. I know, yeah yeah, the old size argument...But can you picture a 5-10 220 LB covering or tackling Gronkowski (6-6, 265)?
  4. Kind of surprised to see all of the Jets votes. I just don't see Manning wanting to spend his last couple of football years with that self hating, imploding, locker room. Rex Ryan is one more crap spewing rant, ending in a stream of tears, from getting fired. Not to mention dealing with the added expectations and pressure going to NY brings. The Jets might be one more year away from a full fledged rebuilding, I doubt Manning wants to be a part of that. He might also factor in being in the same division as the Pats, his arch-nemesis. Of course the Dolphins would be affected the same way, but that team has a new coach and some talented players. The team would be his if he chose...
  5. I don't think this will make a bit of difference in that regard. It's been pretty well assumed that we would be doing this anyway, it's not going to change anyone's draft plan... What it MIGHT do, is entice true 4-3 DE's to come play for the Bills. Guys like Williams and Avril are going to be tough sells regardless, but not knowing for sure what kind of scheme we are running would be a death knell to our chances...The Bills need to do everything in their power and more, if they are going to have a chance at top end FA's... I've always thought that the 3-4 defense, with the right players and coaching is by far the best defense in football. However as Gailey said, finding those players is very difficult, and we obviously don't have a 3-4 coach. I have to say though, the thought of KW and Dareus playing together as tackles sounds like a very good start to defensive improvement. If the Bills offense can play like they did early last year, and if the defense can become at least a mid-level defense, they would certainly have a shot at playoffs.
  6. AVP should never had made an OC, but it was definitely legit to think of him as a QB coach. The guy was smart, started for a brief time, and was a clipboard holder for a great QB. He has the experience and deserves a chance. You kind of set yourself up for failure with the title, I was hoping for something funny.
  7. Florence would be fine if the opposing QB didn't have eternity to deliver the football. Yes he makes a few mistakes, but the Bills could do a lot worse than Florence (McKelvin). Florence also makes his share of very good plays. Rogers showed flashes, mostly as a KR. I don't know that I would consider him a solid starter when we have only seen him in very limited nickle/dime coverage. He has potential at least. Williams is a stud though, he is a lock to start next year. With Wanny running a 4-3 defense, we will certainly look a heck of a lot different on D than we did last year...Whether that means success or not remains to be seen.
  8. I wouldn't be upset if we took Coples. Now that the 4-3 is our scheme, I would say it's a long shot that the FO is even considering Upshaw at 10. Ingram, Coples, OT, or WR is probably their focus IMO. Personally I think Ingram might be the guy we need. It seems like the consensus is that Coples will likely be gone before we pick anyway.
  9. I don't think this is a big surprise for many, however I am very happy just to know what direction we are heading in. Now we know what scheme we will be running during our meaningless arguments about personnel. It does seem to make sense though. Wanny is a 4-3 guy, we have 2 top quality DT's IMO, Kelsay is decent as a 4-3 end. The obvious BIG need, is for a big time pass rushing DE opposite Kelsay (and maybe even one to compete with him). As well as at least 1 real, starting quality, 4-3 OLB. Barnett is capable, and I have a feeling the Bills will try to use Sheppard as a starter as well. The biggest mistake they made in this regard is hiring a below average ILB coach to oversee the tough task of converting from a 4-3 to a 3-4. Edwards was never even close to qualified for that. I think Nix has been mostly good as a GM, but the Edwards signing was awful and set this team back a few years...
  10. No offense man, but I think you are making statements based on false assumptions. I know many teachers, and aspiring teachers, and none of them make anywhere near 70-80k a year, nor will they ever. I don't know where you get those numbers from. Many take jobs starting at less than 30k a year. And don't forget, these people need a masters degree and have to pay off those student loans. No one becomes a teacher for the money... As far as the unions go, if you are anti-union then you should be pro Cuomo. The unions have been mostly powerless of late, losing 15% of their workforce, a 2% reduction in salary, increased contributions to retirement, and increased health insurance premiums. All of these things were needed IMO, even though the workers obviously will never like it. People always love to blame "the other guys" for their troubles.
  11. Don't get me wrong, I am in no way comparing the Bills to those Ravens. Just saying, if Dilfer can win a SB, any one can if the team is built right around them. Obviously it is an extreme and rare example
  12. Umm, yes... I'm creaming my pants at the thought of a line with Williams, Williams, Dareus, and Ingram/Couples in a 4-3 front.
  13. Take it for what it is. I would accept anything that is an IMPROVEMENT from the garbage the Bills have produced over the last 15 years. Fitz is the closest thing to a real QB the Bills have had in over a decade, and yet people still complain. No he is not "great", he will not be going to the HOF most likely. But if he gets us to the Playoffs next year, yes I would be happy with that as a Bills fan...If that is accepting mediocrity, then so be it... Mediocrity is still better than awful... And like I said, if Dilfer won a SB, so can Fitz, you never know.
  14. Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl, and Fitz is far better than him...Just saying.. Sure we would all like to have the next Payton Manning or Drew Brees...I'm just happy NOT having another Edwards or Losman.... Personally for me, watching a Bills team that rarely can reach .500, I'd love to see a guy just get us to the playoffs, let alone Super Bowl. I think Fitz can do that, If the Bills have a realistic opportunity to upgrade without sacrificing the rest of the team, I'm all for that too...
  15. Isn't Cuomo planning to invest over 1 Billion into Buffalo? Seems like that's a lot more attention given to the area by any other Governor. Something like that could also indirectly help keep the Bills in Buffalo. http://www.wgrz.com/news/article/148858/37/Cuomo-Announces-1-Billion-For-Buffalo-
  16. Exactly. People are making assumptions like they KNOW what happened to Fitz, but we don't. Was the early part a fluke? Did he struggle due to injuries around him? Did he struggle due to an injury of his own? Did teams just "catch on" to the Bills? I don't know, but IMO he certainly looked good enough in the beginning of the year to deserve at least another year at the helm. Only Drew Bledsoe threw for more TD's in a season than Fitz in the last 2 decades, and Jim Kelly only threw for 25 or more twice in his career. All that with basically 1 WR to throw to. Just saying, give him a chance. How quickly people forget how much better Fitz is than our recent QB's such as Edwards, Losman, Holcomb, Rob Johnson, ect... Would you rather go back to them?
  17. This topic is obviously complete opinion, but personally I would certainly say Barnett is significantly above average. It's rare to find a LB with that kind of speed, plays instinctively, and can play coverage, stop the run, and play behind the line of scrimmage. Barnett is underrated IMO. There aren't many LB's with his speed, that alone makes him above average. The only real negative I note from him is that some times he struggles to wrap up ball carriers when attacking full speed, leading to occasional missed tackles. The guy is a play maker though, certainly one of the best players on our defense. Poz was the exact opposite. A sure tackler, but slow, couldn't cover, and made most of his tackles well down field. Struggles to attack the line of scrimmage effectively.
  18. I agree with most of this...I think Romo is the only one I would take off that list, he may be the opposite of clutch, but the guy can play. People who are saying Smith and Flacco shouldn't be on that list, I challenge you to actually watch them play. Smith is awful, his best asset is his mobility. His team finally had success this year do to the defense, running game, and all-pro TE, he was the Trent Dilfer of that team. Smith would have never had a chance on the Bills, and would have been run out of town after a few games. Same for Flacco. That team has a dominant defense, yet he consistently struggles to get that team the lead, even with an all-pro RB. He looks very much like Rob Johnson did for the Bills (but with a better surrounding cast). He holds onto the ball forever, takes too many sacks, and struggles with accuracy. Even his own team called him out. Overrated...
  19. Miami, Cleveland, Washington... and no, the Bills won't be involved in that sweepstakes... I highly doubt Stl is looking at a QB, Blackmon or Kalil has to be looking pretty good to them... Wouldn't surprise me if they traded back though.
  20. Tell us how you really feel... It was a joke, made us laugh, get over it.
  21. I blame Mularkey for ruining him.... What about Rogers though... I also feel bad for the Jags...Mularkey and Gabbert...What a team... I like Fewell, but he would have failed miserably on the Bills. He can succeed with a good roster, but he is not the type of coach that can overcome this kind of talent deficiency.
  22. I think it's hard to question what this defense has done towards the end of the year, and Fewell certainly deserves at least some credit for that success. I certainly don't think the Bills were idiots for not retaining him, they needed to go another direction (they WERE idiots for replacing him with Edwards). While I don't think Fewell is a top DC by any means, he was a good fit for the Giants and vice versa. The obvious strength of the Giants is their D line...They get a tremendous pass rush with just 4 guys on a regular basis. Fewell is a DB guy, he has done a pretty good job with that banged up secondary and LB core. He didn't have any pass rushers with the Bills, and he didn't know how create pressure with his scheme, dooming his defense to failure. With the Giants he doesn't have to worry about that, just worry about calling the right coverage. He is the right type of coach for the Giants
  23. I don't think it reflects badly on the Patriots in anyway, but it was funny as hell.
  24. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ms-silver_super_bowl_losers_peyton_manning_012512 Interesting read. Seems like the writer made a bit of a stretch so he could bash Moss, since he has been irrelevant for so long... Not a surprise that Rex's comments are coming back to bite him in the a$$.
