I wanted lloyd last year, a 6th rounder? Come on... Funny, 5 of the first 6 posts on the wall are about WR's...I guess that's a concern for most people, as it should be. The only thing with Lloyd is, if the Pats make him an offer, that's where he'll go. He had his best success with McDaniels, and obviously that's a good place to go for offensive players.

We have 9 draft picks and would like 10
Turbosrrgood replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't be at all surprised if they trade back. As a matter of fact I really think they should if they get the chance. No one other than the 2 QB's and Blackmon really stand out as special players in this draft. I don't see the "1st round rated" guys being that much better than guys projected later in the draft. Guys like Floyd, and Zach Brown make more sense later in the first, and fill big needs. -
I will admit I didn't see too much of him, so I can only comment on what I read. Obviously he is big, and ran a nice 40. The scouts/"experts" seem to have a general consensus that he is very raw, and was used mostly as a pure deep threat. He ran very simple routes, and struggled with underneath stuff. Drops a lot off balls. Again, all stuff I read, but it has been pretty similar site to site. The way they talk about him kind of reminds me of James Hardy... This is apparently a guy that will be drafted purely on athletic potential, not a proven talent. Not saying I wouldn't be interested in mid to late rounds though.

EXACTLY! Both yours, and the SF GM's quotes are right on. This is football, not track. Putting much stock in these numbers would be like having all of the potential hockey draft picks play basketball to determine their hockey value. A lot of what makes a good 40 time is your initial stance and form off the line(never used in football), reaction time, and your form while running in a straight line. This does not translate well to football speed. If anything shuttle times would be more related to football movement. How a guy runs with pads, with players around him, while tracking the football cannot be expressed via the 40 yard dash. The combine is there to get a close look at all of the players in one place, the numbers themselves are just dressing. These guys have plenty of tape of REAL football to go off of.

Wait, you make a rambling incoherent post that has no obvious link to the title, then insult other people because they didn't understand it? Yeah it's their fault that you have awful communication skills... Hah, this ^

There are literally at least 4 of these threads now (more even?). At least they were honest about what they were posting, and didn't have a false title, in full caps...

Exactly, one of the best posts I've seen on this subject yet. There are times when a team can make a huge trade like that and have it pay off. For the Bills, sure we would get a QB at the cost of everything else. Of course then he would be surrounded by an awful team, which would likely lead to his failure. Yeah..Forgetting one small detail...The teams willingness to trade. STL already has their #1 overall pick QB, they want out of that spot. The Colts need a QB as much or more than any other team in the league, there is no package you could offer them that they would accept. This is all moot anyway. The Bills will be picking 10 (or if anything, later) and it will almost certainly not be a QB.

I don't believe that combine numbers should really change how you think of a football player, how they move and react on a football field with pads on is what matters... That being said 5.09 is a pretty pathetic number, perhaps that partly helps explain why he does not look like a good NFL LB to me when I watch him play. I don't want him, with any pick.
-
Not that I'm against getting RG3 if we had the chance, but I think your view of this is a little distorted. Jags pick 7th, highly unlikely he will be there. Chandler is not signed, and Nix has signaled that he is not willing to offer big bucks to re-sign him. So right now the Bills have no big TE, or any NFL caliber TE signed for that matter. Similarly SJ is not signed, so currently we have no starting caliber WR's signed at the moment. Having a rookie QB likely would hurt, not help the O-line, especially when Fitz is adept at getting rid of the Ball quickly. Our D is switching schemes again, and has major holes. The Bills payed a boat load to Fitz, so don't expect the FO to mortgage away anything else for a replacement. Bottom line, the only way the Bills get RG3 is if he falls to them.
-
Aaron Rodgers was supposed to be a top 3 pick, possible 1st overall and he fell to 24. Nobody knows exactly what will happen, no harm in interviewing him.
-
That's a matter of opinion. The combine itself certainly means something, it gives scouts, coaches, and owners a look at the athletes close up. See their demeanor, how the react under pressure and scrutiny. 40 numbers and bench press reps mean almost nothing when it comes to being a good football player though, IMO. If you have a receiver like Blackmon, who will likely run something over 4.5 in the 40. Then you have some far less productive guy run a 4.3, that has no bearing on who will be the better player. Marshawn Lynch ran 4.4 40 times (very good). On the field Lynch is one of the slower RB's in the league (not saying he isn't good, just not fast), relying on mainly strength and determination. Matt Jones ran a sub 4.40 (faster and taller than Andre Johnson). He was a first round pick, and awful. You could bring up 100's of such examples. Al Davis loved combine numbers, look how that's played out for him... In a game you are not wearing track shoes, you are wearing pads, you do not start from a sprinters stance and run in a straight line with no one around you....ect... The combine is a way to evaluate all of the top prospects at once, in person. The numbers themselves are not that important IMO.

Figures this draft is deep at the one position we don't need to worry about. Combine numbers do mean nothing though. Sometimes players put up great numbers and do well sometimes they put up great numbers and suck, sometimes they put up awful numbers and are amazing.

Maybe Buddy takes another chance on an old Charger?

Thought this was going to be about VJ. Castillo belongs in a 3-4. -
I agree with your sentiment, but financially NYC overwhelmingly funds the entire state, which includes money for the Bills...

Kiesel shaved! Must have used a reciprocating saw and a bunch of blades...

Yeah I'm not sold on Sheppard by any means, but I will give him a chance in a 4-3. He played that position pretty well in college. I don't know which I like least about "Vontaze", his name, his attitude, or lack of consistent production.

Boy, the Colts are in deep do-doo in 2012
Turbosrrgood replied to D521646's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
True, but if Luck is as good as most people think he is, they will be fine in the long run. If he busts, they are doomed. Sure they will get Luck, but the small amount of talent they have left on that team is either getting very old, or on their way out the door. Plus the whole FO turn over mentioned above. -
Or more likely that test simply isn't a good representation of the real wonderlic test Yeah I obviously must be wrong, just explaining my rational.

I would consider it to be somewhat of a judgement call, and personally don't consider their meanings very similar. "augment" and "change" have similar meanings. Preserve and Reserve sound alike, but I don't think the meanings are that similar. I selected 3. "neither the same nor the opposite". Preserve and Reserve do not mean the same thing, or the opposite, so I considered my answer correct. I am obviously wrong though, according to the test. Definition of RESERVE transitive verb 1 a : to hold in reserve : keep back <reserve grain for seed> b : to set aside (part of the consecrated elements) at the Eucharist for future use c : to retain or hold over to a future time or place : defer <reserve one's judgment on a plan> d : to make legal reservation of 2 : to set or have set aside or apart <reserve a hotel room> — re·serv·able adjective See reserve defined for English-language learners » See reserve defined for kids » Definition of PRESERVE transitive verb 1 : to keep safe from injury, harm, or destruction : protect 2 a : to keep alive, intact, or free from decay b : maintain 3 a : to keep or save from decomposition b : to can, pickle, or similarly prepare for future use 4 : to keep up and reserve for personal or special use
-
I got 10 of 12 in 5 minutes, I skipped number 9 and I thought the exact same thing about question 4 lol... I call bullchit on this whole test. I'm a naturally good test taker (doesn't mean I'm smart), but I don't see how any non retarded person could get less than half of the answers right. How did guys like Vince Young even graduate high school, if this was really similar to his test, and he scored a 7... out of 50. I also don't see this as having any strong correlation to success on the field.

My 1st round pick is
Turbosrrgood replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He is my favorite too. Upshaw is not going to be the pick (IMO), he is a very good 3-4 OLB and will go to a team that will use him that way. He is NOT a 4-3 DE. Couples will probably be gone, and I'm not sold on him anyway. Mercilus seems too risky to take at 10. Also, despite his stats, he didn't look overly impressive on the field. A good WR, CB or OT could be an option here as well, but Ingram seems to be the best pass rushing option for the Bills in a very poor pass rusher draft. He should still be there at 10. Also my thoughts... -
These arguments are all ridiculous. You are comparing apples to oranges. I love how guys want to blame one thing or another as the sole reason the Bills are not a good team. Fitz is no superstar, yet he is far better than the 10 years of garbage before him. Eli impressed me this year, so you will not find me bad mouthing him. But he also has two of the best WR's in the league (and Manningham), 2 good RB's, a good O-line, and an amazing D-line....All things that the Bills DON'T have (Well, 2 RB's yes, just not at the same time yet). He has a good team, with good owners, a good GM, and even though I am not a fan, a decent coach. IMO, Fitz proved that he can succeed if he has a solid team playing good football around him. He also proved at the end of the year that he can't carry the team, or win games on his own. The Bottom line is that no one player alone is good enough to win a super bowl, not even a QB (Marino, or Brady this year, or Newton since despite his great play the panthers were one of the worst teams in the league). If the Bill's had a legitimate shot at a high potential "franchise" type QB, yeah they should go for it. In all likely hood they don't. The Bills need a solid 53 man roster, not just a QB. Even if we had the #1 or 2 overall pick and drafted a "franchise" QB, we would probably ruin them with the awful team around them. It's a 53 man roster, not 1 man. Will we win a SB with Fitz? Seems unlikely. Can we start creating a competitive atmosphere and start making the playoffs while we look for that "special guy"? I think so
-
Exactly. I never understand the mindless calls to cut guys, without someone to play in their place...That in no way helps the team. Aaron Williams looks to be a very good CB IMO, but he has only played a handful of games, McGee was just signed, but he hasn't been healthy in years. McKelvin...well he just sucks. The Bills need Florence, who despite the occasional mistakes is a solid CB. If they cut him, they would just need to sign someone else. The Bills have enough needs on this team as it is, they shouldn't be trying to create more...
-
or...Some people can't face the truth. McKelvin has had plenty of time and opportunity to prove himself. So far the only thing he's proven is that he can't make plays on the Ball. He has speed, and can stay with a WR, but either never makes a play on the ball allowing the receiver to catch it over his head, or just commits a penalty. He just doesn't have it...sorry. Florence made his share of mistakes last year, but also made some great plays. He would probably thrive in the new 4-3, with help over the top. McKelvin, not so much. Bills CB's ranking, obviously just my meaningless opinion. 1.) Aaron Williams - limited exposure, but seems to have all the tools thus far. Physical, good instincts, plays the ball well, sure tackler. 2.) McGee - This guy was a great corner when healthy. Obviously the big question is can he stay healthy, and is he still the same player. 3). Florence - Big, physical, plays the ball well. He has all the tools and skill, but he makes the occasional brain fart that costs the team big plays. While normally a decent tackler, he will also occasionally miss easy tackles making you scream obscenities. Overall his strengths far outweigh his weaknesses IMO. Any of the 3 above make decent starters. The CB's not listed will all have to fight for a roster spot as nickle/dime/st guys, including McKelvin and the new MR popular, Justin Rogers.
