  1. Any trade would most likely be for draft picks, high draft picks. I'd love to have Osi, but this team can't afford trades like that. There are good FA's to be had, without having to give up picks.
  2. Excellent move IMO. They reduced his base salary, and made it incentive based. McGee as always been a very good corner, he just hasn't been able to stay on the field. If he can stay healthy, he will be a major asset to the team. If not, he won't cost us much. It also reduces the needs on this team, allowing them hopefully to focus more on the front 7 and WR's.
  3. I really like McGee as a CB, I think he is better than Florence...BUT he is unfortunately made of glass, and he is only getting older. Florence struggled at times last year (as did the entire secondary), but no CB is ever going to have an easy time without a pass rush. I still believe Florence is a starting quality CB in the NFL, and we will need to have a guy like that if we are even considering relying on McGee to stay healthy. Regardless of cost, I think we should dump McKelvin, unless we make him our full time PR/KR. As a CB, he just isn't good. He has speed and can stay with a guy, but is clueless on how to play the ball. This leads to countless penalties, and receivers catching the ball over his head with regularity. He is usually in good position, but almost never actually makes the play. Opposing QB's love seeing him on the field, they will throw at him every time... Justin Rogers showed some ability (almost entirely kick return related), in his very tiny amount of playing time as an NFL CB (Nickle and Dime only) he had a couple of good plays, and also got burned on a few plays. It might be reasonable to hope he get grab the dime or maybe nickle spot on this team, but to expect him to step in as a starter is probably wishful thinking. Florence is a good, proven starting CB in the NFL. Did he have trouble last year? Yeah, but when the opposing QB has 10 seconds to pull the trigger on every play, he doesn't have much of a chance. Rogers won't fix that problem.
  4. And the 44 yrd Sproles TD before it, where he had him dead to rights, but somehow never got a hand on him.
  5. The fact that he looked pretty good (IMO), on an awful Chiefs team with Gailey, is why I thought he was a good signing. However what I have seen from him in Buffalo (yes, limited), has been absolutely awful. He also looked pretty bad with the Fins. The guy is also wildly inaccurate, in his "best" season (Cheifs), he completed 54% of his passes. A putrid number. I once thought he had promise, but have since been swayed from that opinion.
  6. The Bills have had a recent history of botching their high draft picks (pre Nix). I definitely agree regarding the draft debacle when Whitner was picked, there was undue pressure placed upon him. Still my opinion isn't based on any of that. Whitner struggles mightily in one on one coverage, even with TE's. He is a hard hitter, and makes many tackles. But often his tackling style means he will "whiff", when a safety "whiffs" it usually means a huge play. George Wilson is far better in coverage, and while he doesn't hit as hard, is a much more reliable tackler, he also has great hands and plays the ball well. That's what forms the basis of my opinion. I will also admit that SF used him in a far more efficient way than the Bills ever did. I don't think Whitner is awful, but I don't think he is that good either, I obviously think Wilson has played much better.
  7. Well I understand where you are coming from. But on whether Whitner is "good" or not, is really a matter of opinion. Just because some people don't think Whitner is good, doesn't make their opinion irrational, just different from yours. My opinion was formed by watching him play. He played on a very good defense this year, and SF used him in a way that is best suited for his style. I could certainly understand people having the opinion that he is a good safety, I just disagree.
  8. Haha, sad but true. I actually thought Thigpen was a good pickup when he was signed, but I will admit when I am wrong... Also sad but true are Quinn's comments. That whole thing got a little blown out of proportion IMO. I completely agree that Tebow took credit for great work done by other teammates and great coaching. Also as Quinn stated, there was a lot of luck involved to get wins despite awful QB play. Oh yeah...No to Quinn going to the Bills, the guy is a career underachiever. He might be an upgrade over Tebow though.
  9. You say you aren't a fan, but your die-hard posts prove otherwise. Even the post above. You are welcome to your opinion, irrational is it may be. I'm not sure of the "all objective measures" (completely made up) you are using to say that Whitner is a better safety than "anyone we have". That's laughable to me. If you'd actually watch football, you would realize just how well George Wilson played at safety this year, despite injury. Even Donte himself said Wilson should have been in the pro-bowl. It's one thing not to agree, but saying we are all "jealous fans" because we don't agree with you is a little ridiculous. My opinions regarding Donte's play where formed when he was still here, so that argument doesn't hold water
  10. Great post. Surprised to see someone that shares my exact thoughts on the subject. Garcon is underrated, yet terrific. He may not be big, doesn't have the best hands in the league, but the guy is lighting fast, and can make plays all over the field. He actually reminds me a lot of SJ, but faster (and SJ isn't slow). As important as anything else, I think he would fit the Bills scheme perfectly. A guy that can get open quickly, and runs short routes well, he can also go deep with that great speed. Guys like VJ, are one dimensional. Good deep threats, but struggle on short and intermediate routes. VJ was the model of inconsistency last year, only having a few good games and disappearing for long stretches of the season. Garcon WILL get open, and WILL make plays. This too, we need a guy that can play all over the field, not just a deep threat. It's not just Fitz that struggles with deep throws, Gailey loves that short spread passing attack with draw runs. He doesn't really call for a lot of downfield throwing.
  11. Pretty ridiculous for guys with $100 million dollar contracts having that attitude towards the guys that built the league that now pays them. You can't cough up a few thousand more bucks a year so that these guys can live like human beings? I've liked Brees since his college days, but that article changes my opinion of him a little.
  12. Witty as the above comment is, I know he was in the pro bowl, I never said he wasn't (he made it as an alternate). I asked do you really think he is all-pro caliber? Rhetorical question, since you have pronounced your love for him several times. Most of us who have watched him in Buffalo saw a guy that couldn't cover, couldn't catch, and often whiffed with his "body bump" style of tackling (like when he was Benched a few years ago in favor of our current starter, who played far better than Donte this year). His team got better in SF, but not him. Watch the 4th quarter of the saints playoff game as an example. I don't "hate" Donte, but have never been a big fan of the way he plays, or his attitude. George Wilson has played amazing football for the Bills, and I am very happy with the CURRENT situation at the position. The Bills upgraded.
  13. I have seen your emotional opinion on this subject before, you love Donte. You are the one that needs to get over it... You are delusional if you think Donte is really an all-pro caliber player, or that there are many Bills fans that want him back. Donte IS an ass, he is a below average SS with above average hype and money, on an above average team. If you can't handle other's opinions, don't read their posts.
  14. I strongly disagree with your first and last guys. V Jackson is the most inconsistent WR in football, he is a very good deep threat, not very good at everything else. He had 3 great games this past year, and 13 in which he was mostly invisible. I don't see him fitting in with the Bills. Manningham has been overrated since his Michigan days. He drops more balls than SJ, has less speed, and doesn't play tough. Manning has made him look serviceable, but he's not IMO. SJ is twice as good as Manningham will ever be. I think Manningham would be hard pressed to keep a starting job on most teams, he certainly didn't keep it on the Giants. I love the guys in between though, I was pissed that the Bills didn't make a move for Lloyd last year, I thought he would be perfect, and would have been cheap. Now the Pats will probably get him. Bowe and Garcon I also think would fit in nicely with the Bills offense. Most importantly though, they should still sign SJ AND get one of those guys. Meachem has potential, but it's really hard to tell how good a guy is playing in that system, with that QB (same with Colston).
  15. Slight correction, as I am skeptical that you can predict the future. You may want to consider that this is his FIRST full year as a starter. He threw for 25 TD's, despite the legitimate issues above (along with the injured O-line, and constantly playing from behind). The only other QB's that have done that for the Bills are Jim Kelly twice, and Bledsoe once. It may be convenient for your delicate sensitivities towards the Bills to blame all of the problems on Fitz, but the fact of the matter is that there are 53 players on that roster and this team simply wasn't deep enough, or coached well enough (defense), to compete for a full season. Fitz played as good as any other QB for the Bills since Kelly left. Is he a star? Certainly not IMO, but he played well enough to get another chance. To blame the entire season on him, or to say we cant win with him (5-2 start), is simply asinine. To the original post, I don't think we "need" a LT, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to upgrade...
  16. Why can't we do both, and more? The Bills literally having no starting quality WR's on the roster, and one barely passable DE. We need to sign at least 2 WR's, and probably 2 4-3 DE's.... Sorry, but we NEED SJ first and foremost. The offense is beyond doomed without him. I'd love to have Mario too, certainly we need SOMEONE who can rush the passer. Maybe Mario, maybe someone else, but we need someone. I'll pass on VJ. Possibly the most overrated WR in the league, he is the poster boy for inconsistency. I watched all but a few SD games this year, VJ was mostly awful with 3 amazing games mixed in. For the most part he under performed 90% of the time. He is a pure deep threat, and can't do anything else. He is below average working underneath and intermediate routes, the base of the Bills offense...
  17. How about a DE like Ingram, or Couples? What about a WR like Jeffery or Floyd? What about a LB, or OT? Guard is not really a problem for the Bills now, nor is it a "skill" position. Thats up there with DT as positions we don't need to worry about right now...Let's take care of the gaping holes on this roster first...And yes, even a solid CB could be a good pick this year.
  18. It's one thing to knock a guy for play on the field. If Gronk fumbled and cost the Pats the game, it would be another story. But the guy suffered one of the worst looking ankle rolls I have ever seen, and returned to play in the big game. This is a non-story. Yes, if SJ did one of his patented drops on a potential game winning drive...Then celebrated it up, sure people could get mad and have a legitimate gripe. But if he played the game hard, nothing wrong with a little fun after the game to unwind. Win or lose. I'm sure many of us have played sports. Losing always sucked, and it was hard, especially right after the game...Did that stop you from going out with your friends later though? Never, at least not in my case. Doesn't mean we didn't care.
  19. Ridiculous. It's a GAME (which has ended), the party was planned well in advanced. Nothing wrong with guys unwinding from a stressful game. The season is over. It's one thing to be a die hard fan, it's another to feel that the entire team must be miserable, just because you are. The fair weather Patriot fans have embarrassed themselves by making a big deal about this, what a bunch of pansies.
  20. I agree with most of what you said. FJ was amazing until he got hurt, I don't think anyone can dispute that. He has everything a RB needs, speed, power, vision, he can block, he can catch, he's SMART on the field, almost never loses yards. Spiller showed some amazing ability towards the end of the season. When we get him in space his speed is flat out dangerous, and he needs to get his playing time. BUT, he is not FJ, he doesn't block well, has virtually no power, and loses yards on a regular basis. He has very much earned solid playing time, but IMO, should be used more as a Sproles/Bush type of guy, than a feature back. The combination of the two of them should give us a solid 1-2 punch, and I have no doubt Gailey will find ways to use them both, possibly on the field at the same time. Sproles was one of the best RB's in the league this year, hugely important to his team. But he wasn't even the starter. That's type of production I think Spiller can have, if used properly in a similar type of role.
  21. If you pay them, they will come... Look at the guys in the NFL, look at the hold outs, look at the attitudes. Sure there are some players with real values, or guys that don't care about money...But the VAST majority would never pass up an extra 500k-1mil a year. Would you? The Bills aren't going to get any "deals" from guys dying to play for them, but they are as much in the running for good players as any other team. For the first time in a very long time, I am convinced the Bills will be looking at top level FA's.
  22. I agree with this 100%, if for no other reason than he was great in the red zone. The Bills desperately need that big guy with good hands, especially with a virtually empty WR roster...That being said, Nix has gone public suggesting he doesn't want to "bid" for Chandler. I get the feeling that the chances of seeing Chandler back are pretty slim.
  23. Sweet...Too bad Gailey hates TE's...
  24. Love it. I would much rather watch a loser bowl every year than the painfully awful pro-bowl. Treat the two worst teams to a trip to Hawaii. It could also make sandbagging for the #1 pick a little tougher (the colts did it in an obvious way this year). It would never happen though...
