We definitely need SJ and another WR, no doubt. You suggested that FJ, could be "easily replaced". I say BS. How many mediocre RB's have we had since Thurman Thomas? FJ was the best RB in the league in the first half of the season last year, I don't think that's easily replaced. Barnett is a stud, and has played well at both 4-3 MLB and 3-4 OLB, he's not moving. Sheppard has yet to prove that he is "a player" IMO. I'd love to see the Bills sign Chandler for under 5 Mil as you stated, but I don't think it's going to happen. Chandler was our best red zone threat in a very long time, but I get the sense that Gailey want's a speed guy. The Bills have so many holes to fill that I think this one will end up getting overlooked and we are headed back to the days of no impact TE... I would take McGee or Florence over Leodis McKelvin any day, and I would think one of the two will still be here next year. McGee is good, too bad he's made of glass.

Report: Dolphins will go after P. Manning
Turbosrrgood replied to ET1062's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If I'm the Dolphins, Manning is as undesirable as Mark Sanchez. The Dolphins looked like a legitimately good team the second half of the year with Moore. An old QB with a broken neck from a different system doesn't seem desirable... Yeah Manning is one of the all time greats and all that, but no one knows if he can really play, let alone play well. True -
Yeah, Fitz is better than Flacco, no doubt. Flacco is an average at best QB on a very good team, he is the weak link.

Ahh yes, the weekly "franchise QB" discussion...

Lee Evans taking the blame for the loss
Turbosrrgood replied to Webster Guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah my brother called before they even kicked the ball. It seemed like they were scrambling to get that kick off in time...They had a time out, what are they saving it for? It was a chip shot, just get it right. A lot of pain for the Ravens fans...we know how it is... -
That was pretty funny, I bet there were thousands of such incidents after that game.... Of course I'd love for the Bills to be in the playoffs, or at least be good. However the fact that the Bill have long since been irrelevant this season saves us from incidents like this, wide right, the music city miracle, 4 straight SB loses...At least we can just sit back and enjoy the show stress free... Funny you mention the line. Watching that game, the Pats O-line was simply amazing and against a very good Ravens front 7. I actually thought Brady had a pretty bad game all things considered. His passes were a little off all night, but that line played lights out.

Lee Evans taking the blame for the loss
Turbosrrgood replied to Webster Guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We need the college system, way more effective and efficient than the NFL system. No need for challenges, no need for "booths", no relying on field judges to overturn their own calls. The guys in front of the reply equipment watch every play and make the decisions within a few seconds. The NFL system is awful, and takes forever. The only rational I can see for using this system is the added commercial breaks, $$$... -
Lee Evans taking the blame for the loss

Jones had the speed, but not the hands, awful in that department. He also didn't run great routes. But yeah, losing him did hurt, when we basically had no one behind him (Spiller/Smith took his place, of the 2 Spiller looked better). IMO, PASS. Manningham is ok, and certainly better than all other WR's on this team except SJ, but I argue that we need a play maker, not just another average WR. He is overrated, and has been going back to Michigan IMO. I just don't see him making an impact on the Bills. If the Bills are serious about becoming a winning team, they will not only resign SJ, but pick up a top FA at the position as well. -
So, what did we see yesterday?
Turbosrrgood replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you look at both of those matchups, it was a great offensive team against a great defensive team. In the end the 2 good offenses are in the SB. You left out special teams though. That was probably the most important factor in both of these games... I do feel that the Ravens offense choked in that game. The Pats D is simply awful, and the Ravens struggled big time. Flacco seems to be no more than an average QB at best. We knew Alex Smith was at best an average QB, and that team relied solely on Defense, ST's, Frank Gore, and Vernon Davis...Only 3 of the 4 came through, and that wasn't enough... -
Lee Evans taking the blame for the loss

I don't know why, but that made me laugh... Damn baby beating patriots... I think you also have to factor in scheme. Gailey loves slants, crossing routes and a lot of catch and run. Evans has always been more of a pure deep threat, mediocre at best when working underneath. Part of letting him go could have a been a case of Evans just not being the right guy for Gailey's offense, especially at the later part of his career. The problem for the Bills was that they did an awful job of trying to fill his vacated roster spot... If healthy, he certainly would have been no worse than Donald Jones... -
Giants at 49ers game thread
Turbosrrgood replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah I guess its not that I wanted him to say something else, I wanted him to say less. He's the kicker, he's supposed to make that kick 99.9% of the time. Say a quick thing, and move on. He rambled on, IMO. I partly blame Fox for picking Tynes as the first guy to interview. It seemed like Fox was trying to rub it into Cundiff's face, after blowing what was essentially the same kick. What she really said was "So how does it feel to NOT be Billy Cundiff?"... (insert Ray Finkle joke) -
if an OT is the pick at 10...

This is my question as well. Some people say it doesn't matter, I say it does. -
if an OT is the pick at 10...
Turbosrrgood replied to swnybillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fully disagree, the guy is a monster, and personally I thought he was better than Bell as a rookie. I am not saying he is necessarily a "top level" OT, but he can hold his own if the Bills end up going that direction. Personally I would be ok with it, providing that he actually pans out and becomes a dominant player (I know, no way we can know that). I think the Bills biggest need on this team is a top notch pass rusher, but I'm not so sure there is one in this draft worthy of the #10 pick. So I trust that Nix and Co. will take the best player available that can help this team in the biggest way, whether that be OT, WR, DE, LB, QB, whatever. If one of the "superstars" like RG3 or Blackmon falls, its a no brainer...Otherwise, I don't see that one guy that "we just have to have" in this draft. If we take an OT in the 1st, then we should be able to get a quality WR/LB/DE in the 2nd/3rd or vice versa. I am more concerned with making this draft count as a whole, like last year. We have a lot of holes to fill... -
Giants at 49ers game thread

My first thought was "how is that different than jumping into the stands in GB?". The announcer ended up saying the exact same thing later in the game. Dunking the ball over the goal posts is another more extreme example of "using props" then what Davis did. Of course his other personal foul later in the game was just flat out stupidity. I am one that generally despises the over the top celebrations these days, but if the examples above aren't penalties, this shouldn't be either. I was surprised they didn't throw a flag on Manningham's TD, when Cruz, Nicks and Manningham were all screaming at each other in the end zone for 30 seconds. I thought that was excessive... Did anyone watch the Tynes interview as they were walking off of the field? What an embarrassment. The guy had to hit a chip shot, and was all like "yeah well this is the second time I've done this", he seemed to think he was the hero of the game. It's not like he hit a 50 yarder into the wind, it was a 31 yard field goal, dead centered. Just give your teammates props and walk off of the field fool... -
Lee Evans taking the blame for the loss
Turbosrrgood replied to Webster Guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's tough to fully blame Evans for not making that catch, it was a very solid play by the defender to knock the ball away...Still, I think many receivers in the NFL hold onto that. IMO, it was Evans best game as a Raven, and I think an easy one for many of us Bills fans to root for. He had a chance to knock the Patriots out of the superbowl...Instead the Ravens had their own "wide right!" moment (of course it was left this time). It's going to be a tough off season for those fans... Side note: I'm losing respect for Flacco's QB abilities fast...He holds onto the ball way too long, and tries to move around too much under pressure (JP Losman like). He is relatively inaccurate (Torrey Smith should have easily scored on that wide open pass in the first half). He seemed to struggle big time against one of the worst defenses in history. -
I'm going to go ahead and say this is a pipe dream...IMO, you don't take a defense that is good at nothing, and try to make them do everything...Pick a scheme, adjust your roster accordingly and make it work...

disappointing to see the Pats in such good cap shape...But I guess it shouldn't be surprising. Other than Brady they have no big time players signed to huge contracts. They have lived off of a combination of very poor drafting and washed up last shot free agents on defense. While that hasn't worked out too well, they have always avoided paying for any sort of big time weapons for Brady and that has worked out just fine...They got Moss on the cheap when they had him, Branch is practically free...It will be interesting to see how they handle Welker, who should obviously be due for a huge pay day... Once Brady goes, I have a feeling like this team will crumble back into oblivion though... As far as the Bills go, it's nice to hear Nix say that they will spend to the cap this year...Make it count...

upshaw is safer than reiff
Turbosrrgood replied to brianhawkeye2012's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This ^...Mike Williams was considered to be a super "safe" pick...The Bills should pick the player they think can help the team the most, and as quickly as possible. I also agree on the comments on Upshaw...I think he can be a top notch 3-4 OLB, but I don't necessarily see a big time pass rusher. I think some people are just assuming he will be that. Yup...Pierre-Paul was drafted mostly on potential...Seems like that panned out just fine... -
MARVIN MCNUTT IOWA WIDE RECEIVER
Turbosrrgood replied to brianhawkeye2012's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nice post. Everyone keeps talking about the 1st pick, way to mix it up a bit and talk about later picks...This team has many needs, including a strong one at WR. I would be just fine if we took one of the guys mentioned above. I have a feeling the Bills will look to FA for a WR though, and may not use an early pick on one... -
Well...Yeah I guess THAT is laughable... By the way I still have a box of those Flutie flakes on a shelf, think they are still good?
-
I guess I am not sure what you mean here, are you saying that Fitz should have been able to maintain his effectiveness from the first part of the season, even as all of the other problems developed around him? If so I don't agree with that, every QB is affected by the players and injuries around him. It's a team game, especially from the QB's perspective. Fitz is good enough when he has a healthy team and a good scheme, but he is obviously no Manning or Brees. He can't carry the team on his shoulders alone, and we shouldn't ask him to. Just look at Rivers, he had to struggle with injured o-lineman, WR's, and TE's all year. It showed in his performance. This I agree with completely...
-
I responded to your exact post...Saying that the QBR alone = Fitz failing at QB...You already admitted you that the QBR means almost nothing, so that's a good first step. JP Losman had a QBR of 84.9 in 2006, that's what I was referring to, a "top half" number. Of course everyone knows that he was really one of the worst QB's in the league that year. I also notice you didn't comment on Rob Johnson's 3 straight years finishing with a QBR of over 100...Despite having basically zero impact in those seasons, or his career. You are right, Fitz's numbers were "bipolar" this year...Hmm, gee, why could that be? Before the Bill's suffered their major injuries he WAS a top 10 QB, with numbers on par with Brees, Rodgers ect... And after he lost his center, MVP running back, and a host of other players he struggled. Must just be a coincidence right? I never said Fitz was great, I made one point in my original post...Judging the "success" of a QB soley by his QBR is something only people that know nothing about football do...You could say the team failed, but to blame that solely on Fitz (who but up the best passing numbers for the Bills in 10 years)is asinine...
-
Wow, you are really stretching to make your point huh. So basically you have the Mannings as the only 2 successful top 5 picks, of course leaving all of the busts out of your list. Go back and read my post again, it still stands and shoots this idea down...
-
Come on, really? You are saying that if the Bills were a worse team, that would be better...Sorry don't buy it. Many of those "top 5" QB's go on to be complete and utter busts, while many QB's taken after the 10th pick have gone on to be HOF's... You don't have to "suck" to become good, that's BS. Rothlesburger (11th), Brees (2nd rnd), Rogers (24th, Alex Smith was taken #1 that year), Marino (27th), Kelly (14th), Favre (2nd rnd), Brady (7th rnd), Steve Young (supplemental), Joe Montana (3rd rnd), Kurt Warner (undrafted), Warren Moon (undrafted)... Of course then you have guys like David Carr(1), Joey Harrington (3), Ryan Leaf (2), Jamarcus Russell (1), Tim Couch(1), Akili Smith (3), Mark Sanchez (5), Vince Young (3)... Ok I got a little carried away, but you get my point... Top 5 draft picks are just as likely to be busts (maybe more likely), and most of the best QB's of all time were NOT drafted in the top 10...Maybe it's that those high draft picks are RUINED by the awful teams that take them. I don't agree with your argument that the Bills are "too good to be good".
